    This might be useful to cool a bedroom at night at a campground where they don’t allow generators at night. You could run a generator during the day for the big A/C units, then rely on this little unit on batteries to keep you cool in the bedroom at night. We’ve looked at doing similar with a less expensive approach with a cooler full of ice & a little water that’s pumped through a computer cooler. That works great and there are commercial products for same, but ours is DIY. Both require bags of ice in a 40+ quart cooler to last all night. Minimal battery drain and I added a thermostat and fan speed control to ours so it only runs as needed. I spent under $100 in parts.

    Why cassette style mini splits haven't become the norm in the RV industry is a travesty. Most of these units are efficient enough to be run off of solar and are way more efficient compared to the current rooftop models. They are also basically silent and very reliable. It's time for the industry to make the change. If I bought a new RV, I would order it with no A/C units installed and install a cassette style mini split myself.

    We full time and are in central Texas and it is hot. Our 2 AC units struggle to keep up. We were just talking about why RV - AC technology seems to have stopped evolving. Probably has more to do with little market disruption. The mini splits are now cost effective and able to run on lower voltage (110) so I think THOR needs to start working on using them.

    Nice. This would be great in my conversion van. I currently use one of those 12,000 BTU portable units that you usually use in a house, and run the vent out of the window. But... Air conditioners will condense the moisture in the air. That moisture has to drip somewhere. Hopefully it has a port to attach a drain hose. Did not see this mentioned. Would be rather useless if I had to keep disconnecting it to take it outside to drain the water out of it. The first time I used my portable, I didn't have a drain hose and it felt like 800 degrees and 10 billion % humidity outside. Every 15 minutes the damn thing was shutting off because it needed drained. Unplug it. pop off the vent hose, roll it over to the door, Tip it a bit, open the drain and let it pee while 15 minutes worth of cooling blows right out the door and the humidity of 3X the Amazon rain forest comes back in and condensed on the cooled interior surfaces... ICK! Close it up, hook it all back up for another 15 minutes. The next trip I brought along 10 feet of tubing to attach to the drain, and routed that through the floor via one of the table sockets that I removed.
    Another question is how well would this work while driving? When parked, My portable would get the interior of my van down to 55 (lowest temp setting) But while driving, It barely did diddly squat! (Both examples, it was running on a generator that was strapped down onto a hitch-rack) The AC in my van quit ONE WEEK before my road trip last year. So i re-routed my trip to stay as far north as possible. I figured up north it'd be cooler.. Right? WRONG!!! It was 105 in Montana last August! But again, the portable worked great while parked at truck stops or RV parks. Just not so much when I REALLY needed it. While driving in the hellish heat of the daytime..

    Hobotech did a review showing this running off of DC instead of AC using a Delta Pro. His unit was using about 200 watts less on DC at max cooling and max fan (300 watts vs 500 watts). This is a huge efficiency gain, and the real benefit of this air conditioner.
    If you want an AC that you plan on running off an AC inverter all the time, just buy a cheap window unit.

    Great video, but my only critique is this. In your bedroom area, where you noted that this unit was most likely designed for, you only did a 1 hour pull down test. All of the details about wattage and decibels, in my opinion, are meaningless if the unit can't reach and maintain a comfortable low temperature. It would have been helpful, for me at least, to know if this unit can reach and maintain the lowest setting on the dial. Just my .02 cents. Thanks again

      @@22howards Unlike others, Mini splits do have a btu rating but it's units are measured mainly by tonnage. Mine is a 1 ton and is equivalent to 12,000 btus. Although, there are much bigger ones like 1.5 ton or 2 ton.
      Oh and voltage is 110.
      1.5 ton and 2 ton mini splits are run on 220. As far as air distribution, I use a Walmart lasko fan blower and helps keep it all low to mid 70's inside while outside is 100 degree weather. Eventually as the day proceeds, I'll have it around 68 inside when in the mid to high 80s outside in the afternoon. Not to mention that most mini splits have the added bonus of heating and cooling plus longevity and reliability. Most units with good maintenance can last above 10 years of constant usage.
      Edit: HUGE thing I forgot to mention and I mean HUGEEEEEE, they are much more efficient then any rooftop ac will EVER be. Because mini splits are ductless, the loss of energy is minimal in comparison to a rooftop having all the duct work.

    • @AllAboutRVs
      @AllAboutRVs  2 года назад +1

      Yes it looks a little confusing but it is so you don’t bring warm outside air into the RV. The front has an intake for the inside and where the cold air comes out. The back has the hot output and if you are venting air out it has to come frone some where so it has the intake for the condenser so it doesn’t pull in the warm air into the RV through the gaps and weak points in the RV. It’s the same way the roof top units work. Condenser cycles the outside air and the Evaporator cycles the inside air.

    It is more efficient to use with DC not AC. I have a delta max pro and extra battery. Pondering getting one of these units for when we boondock and to use at home to cool her she shed. Thanks enjoyed the video

      Thanks. I was looking for the difference from DC to AC and didn’t see as much as I expected. When operating off the battery I commonly saw just over 500 watts around 505 to 510 and on Ac it was 520-530. I expected more of a difference.

      Would ecoflow ac cool a midsize SUV, on the setting that would allow it to run 12 hours on the battery with a starting temperature in the car at 100?

    You always do an outstanding job in your reviews! I appreciate seeing this product but, it's definitely not something for us. Seems too big and needs a good window location for it to effectively work. Thanks! Looking forward to your next video!

    I was considering a mini split system for my 18 wheeler until I saw this unit this morning. I'm upgrading my delta mini to the delta pro in a couple of weeks. I'm curious if this unit will cool off the inside of an 18 wheeler sleeper on these scorching hot days. I saw one review where the reviewer measured his unit down to avound 55 degrees inside of a tent.

      This one has 4K btu. In the night time in the sleeper side with separated curtain pulled you’ll be ok . But in the day time at 95+ F it will not gonna do the job. And forget it in 100+ F area SW , TX , .

      It cycles the inside cool air on the evaporator coil side but the condenser side uses outside air to get the hot out and not bring in air through the gaps and weak points of the RV.

    You are not representing the product very well. When the unit is operating off a DC power source, it’s more efficient and draws considerably less watts. Also not designed for large rooms or to complete with another AC unit.

    • @AllAboutRVs
      @AllAboutRVs  2 года назад

      I never expected it to work well in a big room but it worked well in a small room. I wanted to show that because I was showing its performance from an RVing perspective. This shows what size room you can effectively use it in with these tests. The 8'x8' room was a good size to pair with this. As far as the difference between AC and DC, I was looking for a difference and in my multiple times of testing it, I did not see a large difference. When operating off the battery I commonly saw just over 500 watts around 505 to 510 and on Ac it was 520-530. I expected more of a difference. The 10 to 20 watts of difference I saw didn't equate to that much more run time on the battery. These numbers were when the Air Conditioning was running at full for AC and then for DC. I wish there was a bigger difference but these were my hands-on testing results.

    • @pfwinbar
      @pfwinbar 2 года назад

      @@AllAboutRVs there’s a guy who tests just about every electronic device out there. He has also test just about every solar generator. When he tested the Wave he got a significant change in wattage usage when going from AC to DC, which would be expected

    • @AllAboutRVs
      @AllAboutRVs  2 года назад +1

      Yes I watched the review and like his info so I looked for the same results and did not have them. The only thing I could guess is he used a separate EcoFlow unit with a firmware update that I do not have for his DC numbers. So since I only had the DC battery for it and the app through the wave to get the DC draw number I chose not to guess what I could not test and only review what I could observe and not speculate on what I can’t replicate. I will only show what I can test and observe. The air con on AC I used the Kill-A-Watt to get that number. I’m not trying to put it down I just am being honest to my experience with it.

    This is such waste of money for the adept, but a great gimmick to rip off impressionable newbies chasing the next fad! If your looking for an efficient AC for an RV/Van, just get a 5000 BTU unit from Wallies and install it on your window. It’s twice as powerful and trice as energy efficient for 1/10th the cost! With the extra money you save, buy some more PV panels or LFP battlers and get more bang for your bucks! But I understand reviewers also gotta get paid, but I wish everyone came clean about promoting obvious junk like these!
