Simone's voice can cut though steel, and I mean that in a very complimentary way. She is a marvel. And, it never ceases to amaze me that, as I don't care for harsh vocals, I do like the way that Mark and Simone contrast. it always makes sense in the song. This must have been quite a show to see live.

Agreed... The vocal textures are nice together.

This concert was fire. I was there and Simone and the rest of the band were on point. Mind you, they always are, but that show was exceptionally so.

"We'll crack the code of life" What an amazing song!

Song is from the 2021 8th album, Omega, lyrics by Simone, Coen composed the music. This performance was in Amsterdam , early 2023.
As I mentioned in chat, Coen's portable keyboard , a REVO-1 Curveboard made in Montreal by Nu Motion, has gone crowd surfing with him, while playing. Haven't got to see them myself yet, but you can see in the videos that they put on an awesome show. Beauty and the Beast is the term for the contrasting styles on Simone's clean and Mark's harsh vocals.
Code of Life is , I'd say, near the middle as far as heaviness in their catalogue. Consign To Oblivion, the info card you saw, is one of the heavier , and older , songs. The AFAS version is good, but recommend the live version at the Zenith in Paris. Another heavy song is "Design Your Universe", played live at the Retrospect 10th anniversary concert 2013.

Good to see you back here friend! Hope you are feeling some better I know you’ve been struggling a lot physically of late… Manifesting the best for you! Yes EPICA…. what else can you say? After 21 years they continue to amaze and continue to be so creative and if you want to know where the sun is this day and age it’s under this band like never before! it’s fun watching them on stage because you can still see the ever present in real chemistry and family vibes between every band member. You will also find that Epican’s are among the most friendly and kindest metalheads on the planet. The summit of symphonic metal done proper defines Epica. And yes Simone is Siren of the earth! Carry on VC….much love.

@@VocalCitizen Yes another reactor who is a classical crossover to metal says that Simone and Tommy Karevick of Kamelot have the most perfect pitch of metal vocalists

Fantastic theme, melodie, arabic vibe, voice, stage performance, show etc. Everything is putting this band up there on top where bands like Nightwish or Ayreon or Within Temptation are....And of course fans can and will place other names next to them but those are the ones for me....

Hi VC, Simone wrote the lyrics for this song after watching the Netflix documentary "Unnatural Selection', a documentary about modifying dna

I really hope this band does two more tours of the states (at least)
One in a big arena (for the big light show and incredible sound system) and another like their 2021/2 tour, where they ended up in some 2-5k venues - for the '"can see the writes of their eyes" closeness.
    Enough dreaming.
This song starts so beautifully. I would love to discover who did the mail vocal part... when Simone hits that first semitone.... I was sold.
Hey, I hope ou have fully healed from whatever aided you... I know, I know, I tossed chairside manner to the wind was kind of an arse in the short tyou posted... apologies and not... life is what it is, and all who can read this, feel lucky you/me/we are all alive to agree to disagree agreeably.
Keep it up VC, it's good for your heart, mind and that hole where your soul used to be (before metal stole it).
Love ya, and all you do.

In all the video reactions about Epica from different channels, why do they only mention Simone? and no one ever mentions Mark Jansen's incredible vocal talent?
