In FL, if you find a coin on the dry beach, it's yours to keep (but you should show it to the McLarty Museum so they can put it on record). If it's in the water, it's illegal to take it, but you should still report it to the museum. Coins will continue to be found in & out of the water for generations, esp. after hurricanes when everything gets stirred up. Depends on the country, although if it is (1) public beach (2) object found is above the tide/waterline. Would help with a claim.
