I live up here! I have found some really big pieces of labradorite up here! Some of the smaller pieces i have found are super blue and dont need to get wet to see their color!
I have found some of the greatest labradorite in Keene Valley, using a high powered flashlight. I go up to find it even in the icy creeks. You can find Wollastonite, Moonstone, Garnet, Labradorite, Magnetite, and Blue Calcite in some areas that I go to. I as well go to Herkimer Diamonds mine (quartz) in Middleton as well as Crystal Grove mines when opened. Awesome video.
Thank you so much. There sure are some beautiful rocks in the Adirondacks. I like the idea of the high powered flashlight. Definitely have to try that.
@@uncoveredgems I use a Fenix PD36R to go under bridges, branches and anything else that blocks out the sun. Most of those places are never searched because you need a little sunlight to see "The Flash". Hope this helps you to find more. Get in touch and ill meet you up there to show you some great places, even in the ICE. On My RUclips, I show some of these.
Sea glass piece is a broken piece from an old electric insulator. Years ago on wooden power poles, these supported the electric wires on the wooden cross pieces attached to the poles.
I traveled a few hours stayed in a hotel and used google trying to find this location and I got so lost for so long everytime we tried to find a place to look was out their a few days but I still had a blast because it’s beautiful their
We found some decent labradorite last year in the Sacandaga river. Next week we’ll be in the Keene Valley area chasing after some of that beautiful blue flash! If you get a chance go check out the travertine deposit in the Illion gorge, it’s beautiful!
I’m a Buffalo local who loves rock hounding so I’ll give that place a try this summer. I love the look of labradorite and would love to add some to my collection. Really appreciate the information about where to find it and I look forward to finding some and posting pictures of my finds.
This is AWESOME was in Herkimer a couple of years ago took our granddaughter to the Herkimer Mine... I knew that Garnet could be found. Labradorite is beautiful there must be a bigger source that these little pieces are coming from?
Herkimer is an awesome place. The labradorite is found in streams in the Adirondacks and other places. It was originally brought down by the glaciers many many years ago.
Right on man I didn’t know you had a channel! Just subbed! I went back to herkimer and got some insane ones and pulled out a 13 oz cluster!! I was the guy digging near you on the 4th of July dig. 🤘 watching now but had to drop a comment first.
Hell yeah brother I remember you. I watch all your stuff. That sounds like it was a good day. We should definitely meet up once the weather gets nicer. Either herkimer or venture out to jersey, this lab spot anywhere I’m down. Thanks for subbing dude.
@@uncoveredgems yea I’m on Long Island so the north east is my playground. I have a handful of trips planned and will be going to CT and NJ for various stones and or fossils. And sweet I didn’t know you watched and if you commented I just didn’t know your RUclips name, but now I do!
I don't know why I always look for stones the way you do.. I'm always collecting it😂but I love it😍they are unique.. And I have one big rock full of glittery I don't know what it was but it make my day looking at it
It looks like garnet-mic schist to me and the green is probably chlorite. Not sure from the video but that is what I think it may be. I'm from Vermont and see lots of this.
New into rockhounding, really want to find some green tourmaline! Any suggestions on where to look in the NY area? Is there any blue/green to be found a bit more south?
@@uncoveredgems thanks I did some research and saw that. I’m definitely going to take the 4hr ride up to Keene Valley to look for some Labradorite! The only issue is tricking my wife into the trip. Maybe take her to Montreal? :)
It's SO BEAUTIFUL there! Nice finds! Thank you for posting!
I learned something new today ! I never knew labradorite could be found in Upstate New York. Great finds and love the beautiful area you live in
Yeah I was shocked when I found out. It’s amazing to be able to find it. Thanks for you comment. Much appreciated.

Do you tumble rocks?
I love that stone, got some in tumbler,,1st try,,,looks good so far,,started with stage 2 first.
That white piece covered in a beige casing is chalcedony. Fine crystal with a waxy feel.
Your sea glass piece was once an isulator for phone lines, super cool labradorite! Good job!
i like your editing and content =)

@@dansrocks3739 that’s awesome. Thank you so much for the info. Can’t wait for the spring to get back up there.
@@uncoveredgems That's why I go before Spring to get the rocks that have washed down and are seen. CYA in Spring.

Holy crap dude you gotta show me this place. The colors on these guys are crazy.

Ps. I’m 100% down to go meet up and do some hounding. I joined some clubs and have access to some private herkimer claims now too! 🤘
Very cool!

Unkanite is the pink & green. Felspar and epoidite, usually found in the St. Lawrence County area; but will come down by the Canadian action

Happy Hunting. Hope you find some good stuff.
I’m visiting from Alaska and would love to stop for an hour of rockhounding here, would you mind sharing the location
I'm right in KV for the week right on the Ausable and just looked online for rock collecting info. Great help! Thank you!
Glad to hear it. Happy hunting.
Let’s see some of the blue polished.

I am a total rockhound freak from the Capital District of NY! Super excited to follow your videos!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
you're a stud
Thank you!!!
Been there a couple times this summer great place to pick rocks
I find alot of those green sparkly rocks were I live I call them bling rocks they all seem to come in that same color green
Would the yellow staining grind off???
The sea glass chunk looks like a hydro insulator
great video guy, love watching a good hound during the winter here in NY. I WILL find your spot. lol :)
Haha thank you so much. Ausable river near lake placid area has tons of labradorite.

I think the pink and green is unakite!
Did you ever find out what the green and red rock was? it reminds me of eclogite but I'm in the UK so not familiar with the geology of where you were.
i dug this, but 6 miles away from the aussible river, found tons, it sucks and hard to cut
Glass looks like a r r insulater
I think the pink in the rocks is Perthite Granite
Lucky as

I used to have stone with shiny gold every corner but I lost it🥺🥺
I bet tou will bring a gold pan next time because in 1945 new york stat mad a law that you could keep all gold and sliver on state land it is PBL 82
You can not keep any gold you find in NY. By law But..... its just a law.
Do you ever find moonstone?
I haven’t personally but I have heard it is found in the area. Hopefully this summer I can find some.
New into rockhounding, really want to find some green tourmaline! Any suggestions on where to look in the NY area? Is there any blue/green to be found a bit more south?
Hey Luke. I don’t believe New York has green tourmaline. Look up Mt Mica in Maine. I think they have all types of tourmaline there. Happy Hounding!!!
