I have 5 M12 Surges as a professional contractor/electrician it’s by FARRRRRRRR the BEST impact drill I’ve ever come across, if you’re thinking about getting one, stop thinking… GET ITTT!!! You won’t regret it!!! 🔥
I got the m12 installation tool with 2 2.0 ah batteries for 179.00 at the Depot back in November as a birthday present to myself. That’s how you get what you want on your birthday purchase what you want. 😆
I just installed 35 cabinets with the installer . it is probably the best tool I have bought in the last 10 years. the offset had is fabulous for getting into the corners of drawers and cabinets , when doing face frames swapping between drill and driver and right angle is a breeze. this tool is only half price of the festool model and I think it's just as good ,it's a much better value. I thought it was Goofy until I had 35 cabinets to install but this tool and a couple sets of Bessie face frame clamps made the job efficient and fun. If you install cabinets, this tool will make your job easier and more enjoyable 👍👀
In our experience, the decibels jump up for a brief moment while sinking the fastener flush with hydraulic impacts. Maybe this is the reason he didn’t drive the fastener home, but we won’t know until we test it personally with a decibel meter! I agree testing should have been equal!
All of Milwaukee’s demonstrations utilizing other tool brands are hinky. When they showed when Packout first came out they didn’t compare a comparably priced product the DS 150 they used the DS 130 that’s half the price of their pack out to test durability, Just like this year when they were showing off their “milk crate” they show the failure point of the DeWalt unit and then did a like comparison to Packout when you know that the unit is going to be 1/3 more to double the price so it should be able to handle 1/3 more weight or double the weight for double the price... Watch the tests that Milwaukee runs and it’s strange to find one that you can’t call shenanigans on.😉
@88Shortfuse They’re made out of structural foam to reduce weight. In over two years of use the only thing that I have a broken is the handle on a DS 150 from trying to pick up my boxes by the handle when interlocked, it’s still on it doesn’t lock in the out position.

Hi vegasboy7! There are many different reasons to own either one. Power is one reason, anymore some m12 fuels are as powerful as m18, but some m18 fuels are as powerful as corded tools. Standard m12 did me well in HVAC. Another reason is size, m12 is far smaller than m18 and you can fit at least twice as many m12 tools in a bag than m18 plus being able to get into tight spaces and weight to carry around. The third reason is tool offerings, there are some tools that m12 has that m18 doesn't and vice versa, like the m12 has the rotary tool and ratchets, but m18 has gardening tools and more carpentry tools. The fourth reason is battery life, there are different sizes for both, but the bottom line is that an m18 will likely last longer than an m12 doing the same work. If you are a serviceman hopping from job to job the difference is not concerning, but if you're a contractor on the job site all day you may want the m18. The final reason is cost, m12 is far cheaper than m18 and the batteries are a fraction of the price as well. Bottom line is what are your needs? Do you need continuous power? Do you need the compact size? What tool offerings do you need? My suggestion would be to go to the Milwaukee website and look at the offerings and see which side has more of what you would need. I would also suggest going to your local home depot and actually put hands on them, get the feel, look at what's readily available and hopefully their batteries will be charged. You can even go to the Milwaukee store at 215 and Decatur (little further north on Decatur on the right next to some custom powersport place and in front of the NSPCA animal shelter) and talk to the reps and see the offerings. The answer may be both! It doesn't have to be black and white, there may be something you need from both, they sell a charger that accepts both batteries and they are relatively cheap on ebay, just make sure it's brand name! That way, if you do want the other as well all you need is the battery, and sometimes you can get the deal at home depot where you get the free battery.
