Oh my, I camped there with mates circa 40 odd years ago. Train up from Glasgow, we fished and beer''d. We ran out of food and a lovely auld man at Corrour station made us boiled eggs. Think he was the Station Master. Good memories, bit of a walk down to the Hostel area....
Years ago sons and I got to stay in the Tibbetts Point Light House Hostel Cape Vincent NY. Lodging was in the Keepers House. Now it is also a working light with a darn loud horn.Grounds are spectacular. It is where Lake Ontario and the Saint Lawrence River meet. For a while the Hostel was closed but now might be open again.
Looks comfy but I'd prefer to be solo camping rather than having to share a hut with a bunch of strangers. I am old and grouchy, so it would probably be the better option for all concerned lol!
Stayed here 30 years ago. Gas lighting, no heating in the Male dormitory. Corrour was only a halt with no buildings. Tame deer actually came into the hostel.
Great Video! I stayed at Loch Ossian Youth Hostel for 2 night almost 30 years ago, it looks like it has had a makeover since then, but it was still a great experience. We walked round Loch Ossian, fished in the loch, catching loads of trout. We also had a close up experience with the local deer that came right up to the Hostel door to be fed by hand, one actually had a drink of tomato soup from a mug, ending up with red lips 😀
"This nothingness", you picked an interesting way to describe the wonderful landscape of the natural world!, like only an artificial city dweller could!
I stayed in the exact same bunk as you Ruth! It is a beautiful place but the midges are dire. I was severely bitten by horse flies and midges but still managed to enjoy my few days at Loch Ossian hostel a few years ago.
Great vid Ruth. I have gone back to using Hostels instead of Hotels despite getting on a bit. I forgot how much fun they were and all the interesting people you might meet. I totally get the snoring bit so always bring earplugs that is a must. I always bring my own toilet roll as well, trust me. Keep up the good work in showcasing our beautiful country.
They are so much more social than hotels and easier on the wallet too haha. But yeah you are right, earplugs are an absolute must! Thanks for watching the videos!
it's one of the nicest Scotland exploration videos you've posted. I'd say the area is not steepy hills but rather plane without any nearby forest. Nevertheless it can be preferred for easy trekkings through the ponds and other kinds of plants. thanks from Turkiye (Turkey) for this short video, Ruth.
There are many videos about the Corrour station house and its converted signal box, but this is the first I've seen about the hostel. Thank you for this lovely view; it's so much nicer than I imagined. I've added it to my must-visit list!
Take a tent, mate. It's an easy walk between corrour and rannoch moor station. The views are superb, especially as you gain height. Nothing better than waking up and looking out of your tent at the magnificent scenery.
Thank you, Ruth, for your wonderful landscape images of Scotland. Nowadays, when I see this image, I want to go there even more. It's a dream-like world for me 😮🤚!! ️
Many years ago, a friend was touring Scotland by train & had booked a night in a B&B somewhere "near" Corrour Station, but didn't realise how remote it is. When he arrived there it was evening, late in the year, and it was pitch dark with not a single light in sight. Standing completely alone, he was starting to panic. it was dark, cold, and there was little shelter. Spending the night there would lead to a case of exposure at best. Then, in the distance he saw a light, slowly heading toward him, and eventually a Land Rover arrived at the station - It was the owner of the B&B, who'd come to collect him. He'd never been so relieved to see someone !

Hi Ruth, have you been sitting in Ernie practising your pronunciation, Loch Ossian was perfect.😀😀😀😀. When I used to work night shift I used ear plugs and an eye mask, especially in summer when it was bright from early on. And of course the ear plugs to block out the noise of the dear little children playing outside. Although the ear plugs just made you more aware of the noises in your head. Beautiful place! Misty landscapes look fantastic. I wish Japan could have more eco hostels like that near each of 百名山. Thank you for sharing lovely video.👏
The hostel might be a bit basic, but if you want to visit, the train journey and signal box accommodation are more comfortable and require less walking!
Been wonderful to watch Ruth , I love staying at backpack hostels as a cheap way to travel and the people I meet , a part of remote Scotland I love to go with my tent is around Loch Doon (quite some interesting things there ) and get away from it all in the Galloway forest
Yes and around Loch Doon you have the castle ( moved when they built the dam) and the crashed Hurricane up in the hills also the remains of the war time airbase along the side of the Loch an interesting bit of local history @@ruthaisling
Hey Ruth I've stayed in hostels all over the UK and Ireland Wales Scotland 😀 it's exciting and the people you meet it's great I still go to hostels and I'm an old guy haha 😄 lol from me in Birmingham xx ❤

I had a work colleague who said that in the 40’s and 50’s the language between different valleys in the north would be different. Many Australians I know, think it is the only place in the UK worth visiting.
Hi Ruth ,yet another amazing and beautiful Video! I’m a Munro bagger so this as helped me loads when I head there next year . Look forward to your next vlog .stay safe 👊👊
I loved staying at hostels in my younger days but when I recently stayed in one, no one talked, they all stared at their phones. The kids really missed the chance to meet people from around the world.

Ruth! Oh dear what have I started? I didn't mean YOU to take a black bag to the remote parts of your travels, I was thinking more in terms of , say, some fresh food, or useful storable foods or a few blocks of wood or coal for the fire ... Jings, you had electricity - so no back boiler on that lovely stove ... Ah well, next time I come around I'll know what to take. ... Huh that's a heavy load to carry the distance, innit! But being an armchair warrior this stormy morning, we are enjoying your short reports. Good Luck!
So fascinated by your worldliness, Ruth. It's most endearing. If -- from Japan, mind you -- you recall the Lawson Milk Co., they were orphaned from the Lawson's convenience stores that I grew up with, near Cleveland, OH (originally under the same name that lingers, in Japan.) My, how small the world has gotten! (I didn't sleep through this segment, mind you. I am merely prone to flights of fancy.)
Another great video 😊 Above Cushendall in Co. Antrim there is "Ossian's grave". Probably within sight of Scotland on a clear day. I don't know if the two are connected.
I stayed at Loch Ossian Youth Hostel in the late 1980,s. Everyone was given a « chore » to do. Mine was pumping water with a hand pump. Looks like things have moved on a bit - hot showers 🚿 - Luxury !
Thanks Some changes have been done since I stayed there in 1997 That time was the guard not so very friendly I hadn’t pre booked and was not allowed to sleep in the shelter outside the hostel, but it was all solved due to a group of six persons that had pre booked didn’t turn up
Hiking in areas like this is such a contrast compared to here in Canada where hikes are almost invariably in and amongst trees. You only see bare hillsides that have been clear cut for logging. Thanks for part two. :)
Hi Ruth, love your videos. I purchased a campervan just over a year ago, and so far have managed 4 months in the van . 2 months in Scotland and more visits planned. I tried your discount code with Manta but it wouldn’t work. They still offered me 10% if I joined their club, but I was concerned that you might not get any credit for the referral. Keep doing what your doing.
Hi Ruth, looks like a great place to get away from it all for some peace and quiet and to enjoy the wonders of nature. I’ve never tried Japanese cuisine, what would you recommend and where is the best place to shop for this? Thanks, enjoy your week. 😊x
It really is, especially as the hostel had no wifi / network coverage! Regular supermarkets have a few Japanese items like noodles, wasabi or soya sauce. But Asian supermarkets is where you will find much more. Those miso soup sachets are an easy way to try Japanese food. One sachet has the soup paste and one sachet has the dried veg. Udon noodles and broth or gyoza (dumplings) are easy also. I make dumplings and show how to cook them in a video coming soon, look out for it and maybe you can try that!
(Introducing yourself in front of guests)したりして楽しかったです。 (Is it the same system?)?
I spoke to an ol lad who sadi that he had climbed many Munro's. He said that Marilyn was his favouite. Where is that? Re Corbetts, he said that Ronnie was'nt very high.
Enjoyable videos! £26.50 seems quite a lot, but I doubt there is much profit in that, if any - so I guess that is what it costs! You'll meet the best of the best tourists in places like that - long may they continue!

The tracks on the Corrour Estate are private roads so you are not allowed to drive on them. You can only cycle or walk.
It’s a nice walk from Rannoch station to Corrour.
Vicki Pipe (All the Stations) did a video about it, so did I but hers is better. It’s about 15-16 km and landrover track the whole way because. Of the hydro and the old Corrour lodge.

Above Cushendall in Co. Antrim there is "Ossian's grave". Probably within sight of Scotland on a clear day. I don't know if the two are connected.
That's interestng, will need to research it!
I stayed at Loch Ossian Youth Hostel in the late 1980,s. Everyone was given a « chore » to do. Mine was pumping water with a hand pump. Looks like things have moved on a bit - hot showers 🚿 - Luxury !
Oh wow, chores, that is so interstng to hear! Did you have a cold shower there? 😂
Thanks
Some changes have been done since I stayed there in 1997
That time was the guard not so very friendly
I hadn’t pre booked and was not allowed to sleep in the shelter outside the hostel, but it was all solved due to a group of six persons that had pre booked didn’t turn up
That sounds lucky!
Hurry, call the hospital!! 😲😲
Hiking in areas like this is such a contrast compared to here in Canada where hikes are almost invariably in and amongst trees. You only see bare hillsides that have been clear cut for logging. Thanks for part two. :)
That sounds amazing, do you sometimes see bears while hiking in Canada?
@ruthaisling I have yes. Not so much where I am in Southern Ontario but I have several times- at a safe distance, up north and in British Columbia.
Fantastic one Ruth. Who would have know had you not found it. :o)
It was a great find!
Lovely vid.
Thanks for watching!
When was that Ruth? Amazeballs views❤
October!
I love you! from Japan!💞💖🤗
Hey there, your campervan trips sound amazing! I am sorry the code is not working. I have sent Manta an email to ask and I'll get back to you soon!
Love your videos. Whereabouts in Scotland are you from. The accent could be from the Outer Hebrides.
I'm from the south of Scotland.
Hey Ruth!
Hey Mark
(Introducing yourself in front of guests)したりして楽しかったです。
(Is it the same system?)?
Takk!
Thank you! ❤️
Ruth
I spoke to an ol lad who sadi that he had climbed many Munro's. He said that Marilyn was his favouite. Where is that? Re Corbetts, he said that Ronnie was'nt very high.
Ruth -- when are you bringing Ernie to travel the US?
Great video Ruth, I may just have to visit this hostel. You are an absolute natural with these videos. Question... do you speak Japanese?
It's a lovely hostel! Yes I can speak Japanese, I made a video about it on my channel - ruclips.net/video/r4qcDaZyXeA/видео.html
favorite smile at 2:57 :)
Enjoyable videos! £26.50 seems quite a lot, but I doubt there is much profit in that, if any - so I guess that is what it costs! You'll meet the best of the best tourists in places like that - long may they continue!
and the worst of the worst. It's what the planet is made up of. If the sign said.... Church worship this way... then no one would show up. 😂
Yes and they only hav 16 beds!
The cost of "sustainable" living. I'd bring a tent.
