  • I might not have ever played WoW, but I understand how important the Forsaken and Undead are in the game's narrative. With all the new WoW players giving FFXIV a try I wanted to make this to sort of say 'welcome' and explain how undeath works in this game's lore. I hope you all enjoy and leave with a better understanding of the Ashkin. Also happy Friday the 13th! THIS VIDEO IS SPOOPY!

    Funny thing about the ashkin. I've heard a queer rumor out in Southern Thanalan about oddly civilized zombies.

    I have to say, still hoping for some necromancer class if only because I want more edgy magic users. XD I think the best course would be to build on something that's happening in the Hildibrand Quest (( Which yes, are canon, because the characters do recognize you in the few times they appear in the main story. )) There is the "Gentle Dead Men" faction trying to meet other friendly and sentient undead to peacefully co-exist with. It could be related to that, and would be interesting to see the edgy class get to have notes of the wackier Hildibrand stuff assuming the player has done it.

    During the Alchemist Questline, the Guildmaster was able to successfully fully revive a Hyur with no repercussions to their souls and their memories intact but only for a few minutes. Would that count as an Ashkin?

    • @SynodicScribe
      @SynodicScribe  2 года назад +12

      His alchemic concoction was actually astounding, as it had almost no similarities to undead stimulation. But as you can see, as pure a potion as a it was, it was only able to re-grant life for a fleeting moment. There was nothing tethering the soul to the material plane.

    Upon rewatching this, it would be nice if there could be a subset of mages that do seek to guide the Ashkin.
    The closest I can think of might be Paladins. Some of their quests revolve around undead.

    I still hope we get Necromancer as a Healer or caster in the next expansion after Endwalker. That Spectral Necromancer from Hero's Gauntlet has convinced me that despite Necromancies terrible reputation, it can be used as a force of good in the right hands.
    Plus it'd make for the perfect DoT replacement Job class fro Summoner other than Scholar. :3

      Yeah. The character saying "tainted as I am, I am still a warrior of light" reminds me of our character using the reapers skills. If we're able to bind to a voidsent and still be a hero, I don't see why we can't get darker than that and utilize the dead.

    Ngl I think the traders' spurn zombies are somehow different. They seem generally able to remember their previous existence, the only side effects being the obvious inability to pass on naturally and the hunger driving them to consume flesh, presumably to upkeep their own aether. The thought of a substance like Traders' Spurn that can bar you from the afterlife just like that is freaky

    Hi! A good video for both newbies and refreshing lore needs. I know I'm late to the scene but I was curious. You made reference to Heartstrike but not Trader's Spurn which was an alchemical bioweapon that could turn corpses into zombies. Did you wind up bringing this up in a later video? Such as Ul'dah history or Hildebrand craziness?

    • @SynodicScribe
      @SynodicScribe  Год назад

      I actually dedicated an entire video to the history of Trader's Spurn in my video retelling the story of Ul'dah! I try to avoid telling the same lore over and over in different videos as I don't want it to seem like I'm padding for content. If you want to know everything about Trader's Spur I recommend learning why it's important to Ul'dah's history. I hope you enjoy!

    I have 2 questions professor!
    1.Could voidsent be considered as ashkin?
    2.If the soul of a dead person is still conscious in the lifestream is it considered ashkin as well? like in certain dungeon >_> (even tho they are in the lifestream, and not in the physical realm, they retain their memories from their previous life and havent moved on completely)

    • @SynodicScribe
      @SynodicScribe  Год назад +1

      1. No, Ashkin is what happens when a creature of the Source undergoes some form of undead binding/transformation. If it was suddenly turned into a voidsent, it would simply be a voidsent at that point. Voidsent can't be turned into Ashkin due to what they are.
      2. No, souls within the lifestream simply become one with the flow of the aetherial realm. It's not undeath since it's a completely natural process.

    • @Sacrengard
      @Sacrengard Год назад

      @@SynodicScribe becoming one with the lifestream but even still retaining your memories or some sort of self awareness, like Asahi, Livia, etc in the athiascope?
      Also, voidsent cant die permanently by conventional means or at all, so, if ashkin die their souls return to the aethereal sea and I assume they dont return, that would be a key difference I guess

      No. It’s supposed to be “goo-boo,” according to how it’s pronounced by the Eng VAs, and it’s been confirmed by one of the devs in the official forums. This guy is also pronouncing aether wrong (it’s “ee-ther” not “ay-ther”-the latter is for ether, the mana-restoring potion).
