The greatest set of irons I owned were Mizuno MS-3’s. They were made in the early 80’s, a forged blade with thin top lines and felt butter smooth. I wore those suckers out and was getting ready to purchase a new set, when someone decided to steal my bag from the trunk of my car. 🤷♂️ Mizuno makes great equipment.
I loved my 919 forged . Absolutely beautiful and unreal. Sold and bought mx20. I just didn’t want to ruin them and these both hit the same distance for me
Enjoyed this video and the comments. I play MP64s that I picked up second-hand 10 years ago. Love them. Went and had a club-fitting this week with Mizuno rep in Perth Western Australia and found out that my old MP64's have got NSPro lightweight whippy shafts, completely the wrong thing for my mid-high clubhead speed. I played the KBS Stiff shafts and Project X LZ 6.0 shafts, both a huge improvement on my current ones, and also hit the Mizuno JPX-923 Forged and Mizuno-923 Tour and Mizuno Pro 225's. Was hard to split the Forged & Tour sets. The Tours definitely had better feedback and feel, and a better landing angle as well, but the tight dispersion and forgiveness on the Forged was impossible to ignore. Locally there is a set of JPX-900 Forged for sale with Project X LZ 6.0 shafts. The chap wants $700 AUD but probably should be less. Likely to be 1/3 the price of a set of new JPX-923 Forged with the same shafts.
I’m playing the MP54 irons. When struck right they are fantastic; when struck wrong, they still leave me playable. And I can draw or fade them when I want.
I'm stationed in Okinawa amd was able to find a set of mizuno mp4 for 250bux. Even though i have no right to be playing blades, these things are mint. People overlook 2nd hand so often it's sad
The “tech” in the newer irons is jacking up the loft to fill people into thinking they hit their “7” iron further. It’s a joke. Irons haven’t changed much in a long time.
I bought underrated MP-15s in excellent condition prior to the pandemic. Outstanding clubs but now goin for 3x the price I paid. Timing is everything which is why your channel is perfect for people looking for quality clubs without the premium price tag.
I've been playing 919 Hot metals.... Picked golf up again after Lockdown after being playing on and off for a few years (Never had a handicap) Picked up a pristine 5-PW for around 320 then added the 4 iron with the same grip and shaft later. Got to say as a "beginner". They're amazing! You look after them and they'll see you down to the mid handicap range easily and they'll last years. They feel amazing (when struck properly 🤣) Another great vid Simon. 👍🏻
Love this. Went and got fitted for new irons. Chose the WS D7 Forged new clubs for a used price (though much higher than these). Hated the Miz 223 great numbers but didn't like the feel. The second best irons for feel for me were the JPX 921 forged tied with the WS D9 Forged. If I didn't go with the D7 this would be a great option and I would have saved a few bucks. I ended up paying $533 USD 4- PW (after trading in my i500s) but I was the one to pull off the plastic wrappers and got them regripped and changed the lie for my spec for that price.
My son is just starting. I recently got him a set of Mizuno T-Zoid irons (3-P) for an absolute steal. Good nick. I must say I like them so much I am looking at my own rather more expensive gamer irons ... and wondering why?
Bloody hell Simon. I just bought some lynx VT prowler irons a few months ago after your review. Paid 200 for 4 to pw gunmetal finish. Now I may be looking at these 🤣. Keep up the good work for us folk on a realistic wage😁
I bought a set for those exact same Mizuno's last year for really cheap (less than 400$ US). I changed the grip but that was all that needed to be done. I never had high end irons before, so those are without a doubt the best irons I ever had (I liked the cobra S2 forged I had before but it does not compare to this at all).
Not long got rid of my 900's. Tbh could've stuck with them, but fancied a change, so gone for 921 forged. Brilliant irons, hopefully the new ones will be just as good.
Just bought a set of mx200 forged in fantastic condition for £10 a stick. They are unbelievably forgiving, feel great and go a long way. Much better than the ping G425 I got fitted for that feel hard and give no feedback as to where I hit them on the face at well over £100 a stick.
I have these and love them! Managed to buy for £320 in 2021 with the thought process, that they should keep their value and I had wanted them since they came out. Hitting them pure is the best feeling and they still look amazing in the bag. Just lost the 6 iron thought so a bit gutted.
@@delboywowsers ha yeha had that problem. I have temporly replaced it with a JPX850 which I managed to get for 16.99. And to be honest, it feels and performs just as good.
I got fit into the 923 Tours with the Project X IO 6.0 and they are AWESOME. Only waited a couple weeks for a custom build too (even though they said 6 weeks).
I am awaiting delivery of Callaway big bertha CF19 irons with maiyama graphite shafts 6-pw, lightly used, excellent condition picked up for £185 on ebay. £1300 when new. Stoked to get them.
I'm still using MP 53's which I bought probably 13 years ago. I took about a six year break from golf and just went on a different journey into photography which I still do and occasionally I like to go out and have a hit but I've been playing a little bit more lately and I was hitting my MP 53 the other day and I was sort of wondering there's probably better clubs now than these but in terms of how they feel and how they were coming out. They were great so I'm just gonna stick with them. I'm not obsessed with getting new clubs to get maybe one club less into a green. I really don't care. I'm 54 now and just wanting to go out and play occasionally. I don't think I will catch the bug again. I was playing off six and seven when I was playing competition which was decent golf but I have no in including to get into competitive golf.
I remember when the SIM driver came out and EVERYONE had one, NOW if u have a Stealth Drive you are doing well. If the Average golfer really knew the “5 year rule”etc , the 2h market would be good for the pickings (at least here in the states) So I get the message in this video. Great stuff
All the mizuno clubs I see for sale are worn beyond playability, or priced so high that you might as well buy them new. The U.S. eBay market is slightly higher in price. Most of the mizuno blades are battered and the grooves worn flat.
I game the jpx900 tour p-6 and 900 forged 5-4. If I lost my iron set today I would buy the same set again. Looks like the price has bottomed out, they go for about the same price on Golfbidder, as when I bought them 5 years ago. Great value clubs!
MIzuno irons and wedges is the only think I will play. Tried the woods, driver, hybrids only with moderate success but the irons/edges there is no better feeling.
I bought a set of Tommy Armour Forged Atomic irons for $150 relatively new 4-GW about 18 months ago. They are so forgiving and soft feeling for a 15 handicapper. Simon have you ever hit these? Really wish you could get a chance. Great channel. Thanks.
I don't really understand how irons can vary so much from one brand to another and how they are any different from irons over 10 years ago? I get the impact cavity back irons make (I have some) but what is the difference between a 7 iron 10 years ago and a 7 iron today, if they both have the same loft?
If I was looking to buy a set of these irons from eBay what shaft length and all that other good stuff would fit a guy who’s 5’11 and looking for a decent set but doesn’t want to be taken for a fool at a fitting?
Thanks for the review SAS. Would be great if you could get your hands on last year's Srixon ZX4 irons. Starting to see some crazy deals on them in Canada, they seem to be really underrated and would be perfect for high/mid handicappers
Purchased a set of these earlier 2021 when I took up golf, £400 for 4 - PW from golf bidder, they are great, me not so much, but them I can’t fault, possibly not as forgiving as others but good hits go so well.
Bought taylormade p790s instead. Being a lefty, hard to find a decent used set of anything and I need longer shafts. Went taylormade only because mizunos and titleist are on galactic backorder
Found the 921 hot metal pros 5-pw for 480 US dollars. My first real non garbage irons. Was gonna do a fitting and see about the new stealths but I now I’m afraid they’ll show me something I hit so much better I’ll end up spending all my money on the new hyped iron set.
Just bought a set 4-PW for £207, seller turned down my offer of £220 because he thought he'd get £300+ for them. Market definitely seems to be dropping away. Great little bargain for me though!
Simon, the club market definitely seems to be cooling. What a difference 12 months makes, will we ever see a heated club market, that 2021 brought, ever again?
Simon, whats your thoughts on the non forged models e.g. 919/921 HM & HMP. Do you think the mid handicapper will "benefit" in Forged or will the HM/HMP offer a better experience?
Just not enough marketing they still make one of the best irons and best looking drivers ever. I was shocked at how good their wedge feel shit felt solid as hell only thing came close were RC and Cleveland wedges. They have far less store in my country than any mainstream brands it's kinda sad because I want to buy their product but couldn't same thing with online stores they just don't carry Mizuno clubs it looks like they're more interested in selling running/football shoes and baseball gloves than golf clubs nowadays. I looking to try out ST180 and more importantly their irons been dying to get my hands on one new or not.
Blade/muscleback irons are far better in the short game, for me, than any cavity back produced. Five iron to three iron, I’d much prefer a cavity back.
The Hot Metal are larger, more forgiving and have stronger lofts by 1 club. Downside is large sole, in the 4 and 5 iron it's visible sticking out the back of the club and the top line is thicker.

Hi Simon, I look on eBay and there is no left handed clubs. Why are lefty's so rare. So if I have Left handed Wilson D7 irons, I could sell them for 450 euros here in Ireland. 😂
I'm playing with the set i started with, mizuno MP30 in 3-pw, cost me £450 brand new inc fitting. Cant afford 2nd hand clubs now let alone new. Full bag of equivalent new mizuno irons, wedges and woods will cost over £3k. Ridiculous. Dream set would be Pro 221/223 combo set 3-pw and 3 blue wedges.
