    Thanks. So many good fathers tried and tried but failed if only they had a small ranch for their kids they would have all turned out better

    Why did the writers/ directors not think It would be human nature for some of these cowboys, to take out their rifles & at least try to shoot down the plane when it was 80 - 100 feet up? n

      Well, to be fair this was 1939. The gunslinging cowgirl didn't become as big until the late 40s and especially the 50s. The singing cowboy movie gave way to the "shoot 'em up" type around 1950 also (though there were some earlier ones).
