    Just completed this myself. Some feedback
    1) The screws do NOT come out! I made this mistake, and was looking for a magnetic screwdriver to take them out with. They simply 'loosen' - they do NOT come out.
    2) Don't under-estimate how difficult it is to remove the bezel. It requires a bit of force, but not too much.
    3) The battery plug on the motherboard is very fiddly.
    4) SSD screw, make sure you use tweezers or something to grab it as you take it out / put it back in - it dropped in the motherboard, out and around a few times.
    5) (If you decided to) You won't be able to boot from external USB source - e.g. the cloned or original disk in the USB SATA connector. Mine brought up the blue screen, even on a perfectly cloned SSD. I had to put the drive in the case before it would load. Don't know why this was.

    • @surferdjnj
      @surferdjnj 5 лет назад +5

      No magnetic screwdriver needed. They are CAPTIVE screws like the guy says many times, meaning they don't come out of the bezel.

    I replaced the hard drive and added some RAM following these instructions. It went smoothly except the bottom assembly won't snap back on on the side of all the ports. I installed a 7mm crucial SSD. I noticed the hard drive retaining clip was different than the one in the video, it seem to have two plastic piece flush with either the top or bottom side of the hard drive.. which way should this be oriented? has this happened to anyone else?

    Do you have a video on replacing the HDD with a SSD on the T410? I'm looking to upgrade to a SSD, but things have changed since the windows 95/98 days when I worked on computers. My knowledge on laptops is very limited. I know on the T410 there's a little bay on the side of the machine where the current drive resides, so access is simple. However, I'd like to clone my current drive to the new SSD when I get it. Plus I don't believe all of the Lenovo utilities and software is installed on the machine and I'd like to get that installed first before doing the drive clone. Your help would be appreciated.

    • @LenovoSupport
      @LenovoSupport  8 лет назад

      +William Todd (williamtodd) I would recommend you get a SATA wire with USB on the other end. Some SSDs come with full options for cloning your drive, for instance, the last SSD I bought came with this kit www.amazon.com/Apricorn-Notebook-Upgrade-Connection-ASW-USB3-25/dp/B005C983NA . While that's the easiest option, it also costs 30 dollars if your SSD didn't come with it. Rescue and Recovery or the factory recovery disks are the only options that Lenovo offers that would be capable of doing what you want. In your position I would probably contact Lenovo Support.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 8 лет назад

      Lenovo Service Great thank you for your help. I'll give Lenovo a call and see how much money they want for restore discs. Personally I'd like to get the laptop back to factory specs. If that's the case maybe I wouldn't need to clone the drive, just start from scratch?

    • @LenovoSupport
      @LenovoSupport  8 лет назад +1

      Personally, I prefer to back up my personal stuff and do clean installs whenever possible. If you want the laptop back to factory specs then getting the support discs is probably the best option. Good luck!

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 8 лет назад

      Lenovo Service Just ordered the restore discs. Thanks. I want to start from scratch and get everything back to factory. Really like the laptop, very simple, easy to work on from what I understand, and easily upgraded.
      I didn't want a fancy laptop and the older T-series laptops seem to be pretty good machines.

    • @LenovoSupport
      @LenovoSupport  8 лет назад +1

      I like the old ThinkPad models too, and yes, they are pretty easy to work on. If you go to this page lenovolearning.bhivesoft.com/bhive/t/1004/sessions_details_public.jsp?content_id=7977 and hit take course and navigate to the CRU and FRU removal sections, you can see the removal and replacement process of every individual part.

      I would download Lenovo Solution Center and run a deep test on all of the hardware before replacing anything.

      Drives do not come with the operating system pre-installed. You can order recovery discs here: support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/migr-4m7hwz that you can use to install.

    I have the t440s with an Intel i5. Everything has been upgraded besides the processor, so I don't want to buy a new laptop... I do believe that the cpu is soldered down to the motherboard, so I can't just snap on an i7.
    Would buying a new motherboard with an i7 cpu and replacing my motherboard with the new one work? I don't see why it wouldn't...

      Hi James. Thanks for reaching out. It is correct that the CPU is soldered on the motherboard as per the system hardware maintenance manual. lnv.gy/2wwi9KE (page 74). You may upgrade the CPU to i7 buy replacing the motherboard, but you are limited to i7-4600U. You may check this link for reference: lnv.gy/2ww0LW4. Let us know if you need additional information. Great video. Thanks.
    Question: Is the SSD in the T440s a 7mm, or do I need a 9.5mm adapter to go with it, and if so, are these normally included by default in retail versions?

      Hi Taflukta! Thanks for reaching us. You have a good question there. You can upgrade the SSD of this model via the WLAN card (M.2 SSD) or in the hard drive slot (7mm). You can also check the specification here for more info lnv.gy/2HRqtys Hector_Lenovo

      My current SSD is not M.2, so I guess it's a standard 7mm, and therefore, the 9mm is for M.2 slots?

      If you're going to replace the current storage (HDD slot) with an HDD, you can use either a 7mm or 9mm HDD as it mentions here lnv.gy/2HVk2L7 that some variant of this model has either of the two SSD sizes. For SSD (HDD slot), it's only 7mm. Hector_Lenovo
