You guys got me through a lot of long shifts, being able to listen to ya'lls podcast in the background, listening to book recommendations, and then listening to the books :) . Thank ya'll for all the quality content ya'll have consistently put out over about the last 2 years! I still remember ya'll randomly popping up in my feed and me clicking on a video about The Way of Kings and the new (at the time) Lord of the Rings TV show where one of the guys in the podcast said he had accidentally deleted a bunch of the stuff that they had recorded😂😂. When I saw your videos from the start and watched your channel grow, it made me feel like maybe I could record some RUclips videos too! Thank you for all the book recommendations! And, CONGRATULATIONS on 25,000 subscribers Richard and Austin!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the shoutout 🫶🏻 Also really good point about your interest and the interest of your viewers aligning. I’m trying to figure that out right now by seeing which of my videos do better and why. Also taking notes on the title/thumbnail point bc that’s usually the last thing I do and it never occurred to me to plan that out first. Thanks for the advice!! 😄 (Also Austin it’s pronounced Vera. Richard gets it right every time 😭😂)

Sorry late to the party on this one, catching up on videos I missed. Love the channel guys, and always good talks! Keep it going, you guys will be at 100k in no time!
A fun episode would be you guys summarizing Name of the Wind up until your favorite scene. Then reading the scene to us and maybe discussing it afterwards
Hearing about your writing, the one thing that got me to actually sit down and write is getting into the habit of hitting it every day. Then, once i have hit that writing goal or however long after while they juices are flowing, i will start the next chapter with one line so that i spend the rest of my day thinking about where to go from there. Hopefully you lads can keep going with the writing i am super interested to see what you can muster! We gonna make it bro's. Then you can have my on the show ;)
Small Gods is my fav Pratchett book so far that I've read! So rare someone else talks about that one, and I loved HGttG ❤ Also I would totally listen to you two ramble about movies!
Keep it up boys, I just recently found your channel after looking for Red Rising content (just finished book 2, fucking loved it). Since then I’ve watched your other stuff and I really like the dynamic, I hope the channel blows up and you guys can do this for a long time. Subbed.
Thanks for answering my question guys (funnily enough, "Tom Tom" was one of my nicknames in college! 😅) Would totally be interested in Richard's version of The Wheel of Time over Amazon's! 😆 Also, as a New Mexico resident, I can confirm Richard's declaration that we do in fact have the best sunsets. 😎
Congrats for the 25k subs, and thanks for the shoutout!😊 I definitely agree with Richard on the Faithful and the Fallen's characters developing slowly, but I would like to counter that with two things. (1) Unlike the characters, the plot move pretty fast. There is some traveling, but there's usually a lot of action and good dialogue during that. It's not like LotR. (2) While the characters do develop a little slower, John Gwynne is really good at getting you invested pretty fast. Some characters will move you more than others, but by the end, I think you'll have strong feelings about all of them. I can't tell you how much I adore three characters in particular, and they are all pretty minor in book 1. Also, all of the people Richard mentioned getting reviews from adore TFatF (except Coop, since I can't speak for him.) Petrik Leo does too. He likes it even more than Bloodsworn. Also (again 🫠) I would love to see a second movie/tv show channel!
Personally while I do love movie talk, I don’t think id be interested. There’s so much of it already on RUclips. You guys have something really good here with book talks and it’s something that I can’t get anywhere else. I think that’s where yall really shine. Love your show!
Richard if you enjoyed Night (I don't think enjoyed is the right word) then I would recommend Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. I read it shortly after Night and it is a fantastic companion piece because it interrogates the idea of finding meaning in suffering and the psychology of surviving through the camps. Here is a quote that chilled me to the core the first time I read it:- "On the average, only those prisoners could keep alive who, after years of trekking from camp to camp, had lost all scruples in their fight for existence; they were prepared to use every means, honest and otherwise, even brutal force, theft, and betrayal of their friends, in order to save themselves. We who have come back, by the aid of many lucky chances or miracles - whatever one may choose to call them - we know: the best of us did not return."
You want sone non fantasy books to read before your camping trip? A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey & A Mutant Message Down Under by Marlo Morgan.
For a book outside of fantasy and scifi, I can't recommend enough Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield. It is historical fiction about the battle of Thermopylae and so incredibly well done. I do think both of you would really enjoy it because it has great action but also thought provoking philosophy as it is being told by the only survivor of the Greeks who is a Spartan slave talking to the king of Persia answering his one question of "who were these men that could stand against me so long?" It is a dark read at some points though. It does not shy away from the reality of war and all of the consequences that follow both for soldiers and civilians caught in it.
48:50 As someone who met his wife via online dating, and have many friends and family who did the same ... I think it's time Richard hit the internet for someone! Find that bookish someone!
For mind-bending films, check out David Lynch's Mulholland Drive & Lost Highway, if you haven't already. Incredible stuff and two of my all-time favourites. Also give this lesser-known Mexican film, The Incident (El Incidente) a watch. One of the most original and trippiest sci-fi/thriller mindfucks.
When you guys do a book review video you should add in a top five characters or moments or something from the book for the clickbait and added interesting content maybe that will help with the algorithm
You guys should def pick up Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky if you're checking something out from outside of fantasy/sci-fi!! I think you guys would love it!
Also, i also mostly read fantasy and sci-fi but I find that Ill often read books from other genres when there is a movie about them. Such as No country for Old Men, American Psycho, Never Let me Go

I'm not sure if Richard was serious when he said he could do a better job at adapting WoT just by being a gatekeeper and hiring the right people. That's severely underestimating how complicated it is to adapt a long book series like this and also completely ignores the realities of tv production where lots of outside forces influence and shape a tv show. Simply hiring people who know and like the source material is not enough.

29:10 just dropping my two cents that y’all can completely ignore, but I usually wait till I read the book before I watch the book reviews because I don’t like watching part of a video and then leaving it unfinished so I don’t get spoilers. It might help to have the unspoiled section be a separate short video so it’s easier for those who haven’t read the book yet to see if it’s for them then they could go back and watch the long spoilerfull review after reading it 🤷🏻♀️ or it could do nothing.
