- A street in north-west Wales has been crowned the world's steepest. Ffordd Pen Llech in the historic town of Harlech has a gradient of 37.5% at its steepest point, knocking Baldwin Street in Dunedin, New Zealand, off the top spot. Gwyn Headley, who led the town’s campaign to claim the title, said: 'I feel utter relief and jubilation. I feel sorry for Baldwin Street and the New Zealanders, but steeper is steeper.'

Sike they cheated in measuring the road sooooo........... BALDWIN STREET WINNNNNNNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why does the media always manage to find non Welsh people to interview when filming in Wales? Weird!
English man - Irish woman.
Cause no one understands the welsh except the welsh
@@mr000hunter000 Most Welsh people don't understand Welsh
My grandad is buried in the tiny little cemetery they have up that hill. Wow, I can’t believe this.
That video does not do it justice at all lol, it is ludicrously steep. Like so steep your shoes have a hard time just not slipping. The great Orme in Llandudno has a really steep road too.
Hate to break it to you guys, but it was in fact measured wrong, found out on the news a few days ago.
The new results confirmed Baldwin Street, NZ has the steeper gradient of 34.8%, compared to Ffordd Pen Llech’s gradient of 28.6%.
its actually not if you measure in the center of the street. they measure on the very inside of the bend which is a discrepancy.
They can’t stop all of us,who’s storming Area 51 then?👽
I don't believe this really.
@Karl Pilkington Why do you believe this?
@yaggle fraggle Guinness screwed up the measuring. Fantastic
...so why it taken so long? did it become steeper as the years went by? ...or is it nobody could be bothered to visit it?
Vincent de Guard maybe some percentage math as is for how long :)
Karl Pilkington unless you want to calculate the gradient comparison etc.
I understand that one of the Guiness requirements was that the street needed a blueprint or plans that it was designed by, but the welsh street was build during the Roman times and therefore had no remaining records of the plans.
Nobody gives af
@@TheFreemanuk Maybe you should use your own advice and piss off.
2nd now 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣from dunedin nz
And just like that, it no longer is lol
Kiwi's: better at Rugby, better at having steeper streets :P
They clearly have never been to a favela in Rio de Janeiro.
They must feel silly now Guinness Records made an error and have given the title back to New Zealand.

Yep been there
not a place to be if you have had a few drinks, even if you managed to keep your feet under you you'd be breaking the sound barrier when you got to the bottom
I believe this is not the steepest street in the world
The OFFICIAL Guiness World record for the steepest street is Baldwin Street in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Obviously, the street featured in this video does not meet the criteria to be the record holder.
?? Seriously, this is what the team of professional journalists at the Guardian consider ground breaking news. While I love the creepy looking old guy from Guiness World Records, that just shows up looking like he is taking a break from doing the laundry or walking the dog. He shows up alone, makes a quick statement to local press, collects his appearance fee and then pisses off to the next promotional event to collect another cheque. It is no secret that the money grubbing folks at Guiness World Records will show up to the opening of an envelope, if they can make a quick buck doing so. (Guinness World Records sells promotional packages, with consulting prices depending on the services required. For a basic idea and adjudication, the fee is $7,500 while appearing at live events can require as much as $20,000. Their famous $25,000 'silver package' will arrange everything, and promote the event for you. The Guinness World Records brand, was sold to the privately owned Canadian company behind Ripley’s Believe It or Not museums, for 118 million dollars in 2012.) My quick comment was 100 times more informative than this ridiculous fluff piece and it proves once again, that the corporate controlled 'puppet' media, is hell bent on distracting the masses from what is really going on in the world... it's not as if anyone at the Guardian would bother to mention that Japan is going to dump another 700 thousand TONS of boiling hot nuclear waste into the ocean (addded to the 700 thousand tons of toxic nuclear waste that has already leaked into the ocean, since the 2011 tsunami destroyed 3 of their nuclear reactors.) Cheers to Guardian News and the amazing work they do!
a question for hugh grant ..when is ‘a hill’ not a mountain 🏔
post edit.. no one mentioned it's a single track road
a mountain is 1000 f
i'm pretty sure there are steeper streets in san fransisco...
There is in fact, significantly steeper. Only thing is they are not long enough for Guinness World Records. If I remember correctly in order to be a contender the street in question needs to be at least 10 meters long. Bradford street above Tompkins in San Francisco is sitting at 41% gradient!
Thought Bristol Vale Street was the steeper?
For now! They're going to have to pave a road to Everest summit.
Hahaha, you know whats ironic with your comment?! Everest is named after a Welshman! 😂
😏
There’s a part of this one street in San Diego close to Balboa Park that I am almost certain is steeper
submit it to the guinness world records then.
as long as its measure on the centre of the road exactly the way baldwin street been measured
not anymore lol
......never was in the first place.
is not the one in Dunedin , new zealand the world steepest street?
Not anymore
@@sheld999 NZ reclaimed the title! Wales in absolute shambles over this defeat.
@Vex Shambles mate.
@@stevesteve9899 woo hoo!
nz got the title back
Been dreaming of steep street, odd dream I had more than once
I have driven on a street in Haiti a lot steeper than this video. Someone please help correct the records.
It's a pathway not a road like NZ.
It's a lane! hence why it's classed as a street as both houses are present and traffic goes through there.
@@taffyducks544 but one point on this lane is a one way only mark in nz one there none its 2 lanes all the way up and down no giveway points
Firstly that's a road on a hill, secondly there's real street's in istanbul you could slap the palm of your hand to the road walking up i did.
No u didnt
Finally they beat Baldwin Street
nope! baldwin street has been found to be steeper
No it's not!
my street has a gradient of 89% --- winter is a b*tch
R.I.P to the concreters 😧😧
Wrong Atunga street in Sydney Australia
Nah
They never been to Ankara Turkey 😁wonderful people as well
I've seen steeper streets in Amman jordan.
I live there
Free ASAP ROCKY
Steepest in the world my balls. There's a steeper street not even a mile from where I live.
Prove it.
Unlucky kiwis
Don't see how that counts as a street. Baldwin st is a proper street.
okay first things first in dundien its straight and this is windey I don't think that thats the steepest because you would already know that its the steepest and its not its been called the steepest for the first place okay and balwid street is the steepest street
Get ready for the *tourist invasion.*
And still zero *ucks given by anyone.
Nice news trend RUclips.
Time for some softwheeled skateboarding! ? throw a bash, competition they will come. ha. and sleep in tents.
Seriously, people must be dumb believing this is the steepest street in the whole world. I've walked streets with a 45 degree gradient, right in my neighborhood.
which neighbourhood is that?
It goes by the center line of street etc
Like could be steppest but has to go by percentage of the width of road etc
No u havn't
I’m from nz and the wales street looks like a road
You sort of presume that nobody is overweight there.
They will now get constant traffic up that street. Did that sign in the video say "unsuitable for motors ?" If cars can't get up there then it is a footpath or cycle path.
Unsuitable doesn't mean they can't
