Ive seen a lot of backpacking/ hiking/camping videos. This is the first time I've seen a young black woman braving the outdoors. I think its awsome! The best way to learn is getting out there and doing it. I'll definitely be looking for more of your content. Oh and btw...You are a beautiful young lady 😍 Wish I could find someone like you🙏
Haha there are more of us out there! I completely agree. I’ve watched so many camping RUclips videos over the past few years that I thought I would kind of know what I was doing when I started. I was quickly humbled lol. But I’ve learned so much from each trip…still a ways to go. And thank you 😊 really appreciate it ☺️☺️

Yeah!! I love seeing my Sisters out in nature doing the things! You are doing so great and learning a TON! Thank you for taking us along with you so I can learn too. May you have many more wonderful outdoorsy adventures!
Aww I appreciate the love and support more than you know ☺️ The learning doesn’t stop, that’s for sure. Thank you for coming along for the process. I wish you the best as well! ❤️
I’m a black guy who has been living in Detroit for +30 years. For some reason, this popped up in my feed. Gave it a watch. Lady has a lot of positive energy about her. Subscribed as a show of support and, I guess, solidarity. That said, if she reads this, please be careful out there. Not going to say going this alone is potentially dangerous. Not going to say doing this by yourself might be unsafe. Just going to say, be careful and listen to your surroundings as you have fun enjoying the U.P. ✌️
I appreciate you watching and subscribing 😊 thank you!! You’re right, doing this alone is inherently more dangerous…for various reasons. Being aware of my surroundings and listening to my gut is really important. Thank you for taking the time to show your support and look out ☺️ take care
Congress gave the U.P. to MI to compensate it for the “Toledo Strip,” a piece of land Congress gave to Ohio in a land squabble between the two states. The U.P. Was originally part of WI, but was detached along the Brule River. The “Yoopers” are great people, respectful of nature, and they welcome visitors as friends. Bears might be a problem, but 99% of the time they will avoid humans. Researchers estimate black bears to number over 10,000 in the U.P. Add to that more than 24,000 bears in WI and your chances of seeing one increase. It would be advantageous for people hiking and camping in the U.P. And northern WI to learn more about bears, their habits, and what to do in the event of meeting one. The big lesson, “Never get between Momma Bear and her cubs!”
The u.p. is one of the safest places in the entire United States, worst of it would be Marquette Michigan for safety and that's still safer than almost anywhere. (College town w non locals)
Obviously new to a lot of what goes into canoe camping. You've done your homework, and don't pretend to know more than you do. Keep it going, your doing great with the 'learning curve'. Be safe, enjoy, and well done! - Mike from Ontario Canada.
Big thumbs up for being so genuine with your adventure! Full discloser I am a 59 yr old white male who has lived in the U.P. for 57 of those years and what I really appreciate about your video is you don't have to go about things half clothed. You don't do that. Thanks for the post!
Living in Michigan, I love that someone is showcasing camping and canoeing from here. Don't doubt yourself as you're getting out there and trying new things, those portages may be easy to experienced canoers but doing eight in a day is a ton for someone new. It will be easy to you one day. Also, as someone mentioned make sure you set the drag on your pole, when casting it should be loose enough to pull out line with some resistance and then when you hook larger fish you can increase it so you are able to reel them in.
Thank you! I can’t wait to be able to get to more places. Michigan is such a beautiful State☺️☺️ I appreciate that. I think the toughest part is how painful it is to have the canoe sitting on your shoulders. I’m sure it would be easier with a lighter canoe. That makes sense…I was thinking that if it was any bigger it would have been really hard to reel in. Even when my hook got caught on something under the water, the reel just kept spinning, so I thought something might not be right
So enjoyable to see such a young lady taking in the sights and surprises of nature. I’m thinking I will tell my oldest son to carry a diamond ring when he goes backpacking because crossing paths with a young lady like you would be something he’d just have to be ready for. Bless you young lady, be safe and enjoy your time out there
I thoroughly enjoy how simply you travel & how open you are to nature & good fortune, like catching the fish. Please keep sharing your experiences in such beautiful places.

I’ve stumbled upon camping videos somehow & this video was recommended to me and I find joy just watching other people find joy in nature it’s super comforting but it’s a very beautiful thing to see people enjoying nature this is where life and reality is be safe out there and blessings to you … I’ll subscribe too
First time I ever saw your videos. I like that you don't gloss over any difficulties and admit that you are learning. Also it is a very welcomed relief that you keep your clothes on unlike so many others on YT.
Uh...holy cow this is impressive! Nice bass, first of all. I've been camping, hiking, and kayaking in the UP for over 30 years. I've only done anything solo in the backcountry longer than a day a few times, and I'll admit it's pretty unnerving to be way out there by myself sometimes. Mind can really play tricks on you, and obviously everything that can go wrong can quickly become a real problem when you're way out there. That takes a lot of will and mental fortitude, but it's so worth it once you get acclimated and start to be able to appreciate the solitude and the beauty. Then on top of it you're setting up cameras and getting some nice drone shots. The UP is one of the most beautiful places on Earth to me, and the most special. Really cool to get to come along on your trip. You're also gorgeous and a better campfire cook than I am. You'll figure out the fishing portion. Generally the perch up there are the simplest, best eating. Pretty much killing it on all levels. Feeling inspired to get out and do this again next summer solo. Thank you. Looking forward to your next video, and subscribed.
I've gone solo many times, most of peoples fears are just in their heads. and would only need bear spray and a first aid kit at most. Solo camping is a great way to reset.
Enjoyed this video! First time here, and I’m glad i found your channel. C’mon now. I think you’re a lot more experienced than you’d have us believe! 😂😂 Great vid.
My wife and I watched this whole video. Very impressive how your learning as you go and are willing to just get out there and try. Love what you’re doing.
Nice portage trip! There are so many great places you can get to by paddling that it makes the portage worth it. Nice job on catching and cooking too. A perfect fillet is nice but I like stir fry nuggets just as well😁. So cool to see you learning fishing, there's always new stuff to learn even after decades. A bit tighter drag helps and when they are pulling drag is when you stop reeeling otherwise the line gets twisted. Reel in again when you can gain line. Its a give and take especially with big fish. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!! I’m going to keep at it because it’s worth it to get to the more remote lakes. Haha thank you for mentioning the catch and cook. I definitely imagined getting more fish when I finally did one but those tiny little pieces tasted good. Thats really good to know. I appreciate the advice ☺️

(((((Cyber high five))))) 🙌🏾 I love me some “glamping” but this here is some true camping & you make it look so freaking easy… so inspiring. I’m definitely going to give this type of camping a go. We all are in this with you, SERIOUSLY and super proud & stoked for you. What an amazingly, successful camp! Bravo 👏🏾 👏🏾👏🏾 Oh yeah & the production of the video, ah-may-zing!!!
Aww thank you!! I love your Kayak adventures and can’t wait to see you go camping with it ☺️☺️ carrying that canoe is no joke!! I might need to think about an inflatable like you have for future trips lol. I appreciate you. This is what makes camping alone NOT lonely 😊
@@Bluebloods7 I completely agree. Morals are totally individual and I don’t think we can pass judgement on anyone else based on our own ideas of what that looks like. @@docdetroit99 I’ve backpacked in the mitten but I have only been canoe camping in the UP. If you ever make it back to Michigan, the porcupine mountains are supposed to be beautiful. I hope to do a backpacking trip there at some point
@Apeaceofthewoods , Backpacking throughout the mitten? Wow, ..., even more impressive. Well, ..., it would be pretty cool to backpack back in my old stomping grounds . However, I'm not sure I could deal with the mosquitos. It's also impressive that you carry your canoe. Salute....
Nice vid. I grew up in the U.P., traveled the world, had some life changing events which ended up to be an unexpected blessing. Now I have a really nice off grid log cabin, and future permanent residence, on a lake southwest of Houghton that I enjoy so much. I just had 15 days off and I spent it splitting wood, fixing and improving things but I also spent a lot of time in flipflops sitting on my pontoon chilling. I enjoyed the spirit of your vid because at heart I am a Landlooker and spend time in the wood here trying to see whats over the next hill, usually with a flyrod as an excuse. Last year we found one of those things. Fishing on a pretty remote part of the Firesteel River my two fishing partners and I planned to meet up after 3 hours. It was 85 degrees. We met up at this random spot sitting on this river rock slope covered in moss. Springs made that spot 20 degrees cooler. As we sat in that air conditioned spot my son pointed out the huge Cedar trees, they were as big around as the biggest White Pines I had ever seen. It was an incredible moment. Enjoy.
Thank you ☺️ I love that you’ve been everywhere and still found your way back. I completely understand why. The UP is special. Amazing you have the opportunity to live the life you’re currently living in such a beautiful place. The moment you described for me..is what life is all about. Thank you for sharing ☺️ you take care as well

Great video, young lady! It's great how the proof is all On video, how you're gaining experience and learning! When you caught your two fish, I found myself feeling as proud of you, as I was of my 12 year old grandniece, when she uses a push-kick, to break a board in her martial arts class! Seeing you do that was really something! And all in the beauty of Michigan's UP! I understand that the portraying is tough. That's where having a partner would help greatly! Fantastic! After finishing my senior year of high school, a friend and I loaded up his van with some gear and my old john boat and headed up across the bridge, north of Manistique, and west of Steuben to the Big Island Lake Wilderness. We were short on proper supplies and lacking knowledge, but we spent a week camped on the north shore of Town Line Lake. From that base, we explored Big Island Lake, Mid Lake, and Coattail Lake. What an adventure! Thanks for taking me back. Now, 4+ decades later, I want to get started canoe tripping. I just might make Big Island Lake Wilderness my first adventure.
Aww what a way to bring it full circle! I really really hope you do get started again and BILW would be the best place for it. It’s been a great place for me to learn ☺️☺️

In reality as a women I don’t really care if you do anything perfectly or that you make things look professionally. I appreciate you just putting the effort. That’s all. Just getting yourself out there. It takes a lot of guts. Even if you make mistakes. Even if you start from zero. Don’t stop. I also enjoy the fact that you that you don’t rush and take your time just enjoying your beautiful surroundings. Nature heals.

Oh and also, beautiful cinematography, editing, and views. Thank you for paying attention to that and how things look, some creators lose focus on the fact they’re making a video and don’t always make it look so nice. Awesome work!
I love this video. I have been putting my wife through the outdoor training camp lol. She is catching on great. I think you are catching on great also, the only three pieces of advice I will give is. 1. learn when to tighten and loosen your drag. (Different situations call for different tightness's, it took me a while to learn it also because I learn kind of slow.) 2. Cottonballs with a Nickle(ish) sized glob of Vaseline rubbed all over them are great fire starters. Stick them in a ziploc and when ready stretch the cotton ball out so you can see the small fibers in the middle and hit it with a flint and steel. It will light right up. I always carry about ten of them in my pack. (As with anything in camping practice a little at home before going out trying it.) 3. Don't listen too much to everybody's advice. Take all advise with a grain of salt and find what works for you. I've been camping about my whole life and seen a lot of people do things a lot of different ways. Being as I am in my early thirties I always take it as an opportunity to learn new things from those more experienced than me, I adapt what works and throw away what doesn't because there is no absolute right way to do anything and depending on where you are you may have to find creative ways to get different jobs done. Learning what works for you is part of the adventure of the outdoors so make sure to enjoy the process. Oh yeah almost forgot. 4. Bear spray. Never go anywhere without it. (Unless you don't have bears where you are at. (It seems like you can't go anywhere near my part of Appalachia without seeing them) Glad you are becoming a part of the real world. Respect and take care of our mother, Mother Nature, and most of all. Welcome to the club!!! :)
Aww thank you! Im happy to hear you think I’m doing well since I’m putting myself through the outdoor training camp 😂 but also glad your wife is catching on. 1. It cracks me up that you and others are able to immediately see that my drag wasn’t tight enough. Is it supposed to be adjusted while fishing when reeling in a fish? If it’s a situational thing than I think knowing when and how much to tighten it will have to come with experience 3. Love the cotton ball idea 😊 4. I agree lol. Although the fact that people are so willing to offer tips and advice like this is an unexpected bonus of posting these videos. I’ll have to learn from my own experiences for sure but there’s a ton of wisdom in these comments that I normally wouldn’t have access to. So I appreciate you for the information! So happy to be in the club 😊
Great video and work the fishing will come the more you do it and I can tell you enjoy it canoeing and kayaking camping it the way to go enjoy and have fun .Thank you for showing

I watched this again because it is so soothing. Thank you for taking us along.
Haha well I appreciate you following along ☺️
Obviously new to a lot of what goes into canoe camping. You've done your homework, and don't pretend to know more than you do. Keep it going, your doing great with the 'learning curve'. Be safe, enjoy, and well done! - Mike from Ontario Canada.
I’m loving it but the learning curve is challenging at times. I wish I could wake up and know everything! Thank you so much Mike! ☺️
ur joking right? lol!
Big thumbs up for being so genuine with your adventure! Full discloser I am a 59 yr old white male who has lived in the U.P. for 57 of those years and what I really appreciate about your video is you don't have to go about things half clothed. You don't do that. Thanks for the post!
Haha well thank you for the comment 😊 I am absolutely terrified of ticks and so I try to stay pretty covered up 😂
I thought it was going to be one of those videos so ignored it at first, good point, a very interesting video for outdoor people.
Why do you need to identify your race? Americans are so weird
Love seeing someone in this neck of the woods. So quiet and beautiful up north.
Yes it is 😊 That’s why I don’t mind making the long drive. It’s always worth it
Living in Michigan, I love that someone is showcasing camping and canoeing from here.
Even when my hook got caught on something under the water, the reel just kept spinning, so I thought something might not be right
❤ I'm so happy you got that fish! I was so excited for you. 😊 Keep it up girl & stay safe! Love
Aww thank you so much ☺️☺️☺️ I was floored lol. I appreciate you ❤️❤️
So enjoyable to see such a young lady taking in the sights and surprises of nature.
I’m thinking I will tell my oldest son to carry a diamond ring when he goes backpacking because crossing paths with a young lady like you would be something he’d just have to be ready for.
Bless you young lady, be safe and enjoy your time out there
Aww what a compliment ☺️☺️ thank you! Bless you too and be safe as well!
I thoroughly enjoy how simply you travel & how open you are to nature & good fortune, like catching the fish. Please keep sharing your experiences in such beautiful places.
Thank you!! 😊😊 I will definitely keep sharing. Hopefully I’ll be able to get out again soon
I admire your grit and your gourmet camp cooking! I shared your channel with my daughter in MQT, and neither of us can figure out how you manage to look so camera worthy after 4 days. Keep up the adventures young lady.
@@JDrex-wb6vq I appreciate that ☺️ haha well thank you to both you and your daughter for thinking I’m still camera ready. I certainly don’t feel that way by the second day. Hoping to do another adventure very soon 😊😊

Thank you!!! 😊
I do believe the UP is the best place in the continental US to explore. I have plans to live there one day, I live in Lower Michigan currently.

What a fantastic Sunday evening. I just brewed myself a cup of fresh steaming hot coffee and I got a notification in my RUclips feed that you had posted a new video.
The way you present your adventures is absolutely wonderful and it is so visually beautiful and relaxing to watch. I am already looking forward to the next video you will post.
So thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us. Please take care of yourself and your loved ones 🧡
Thank you so much for watching 😊😊 So many things learn…editing and filming included so I really appreciate your comment ☺️ I hope I can do more soon!
❤ seriously you are my New Favorite person in the world 🌎!!! Totally smiled for the entire video!! I'm game anytime you want to go anywhere up North in Michigan. I can give you some fishing pointers on my boat too for sure!! Seriously great Job!
Success comes from overcoming difficult things. Nature is the best way to stay grounded. Amazing job getting through this outing!
You popped into a suggestions .Nice seeing a well spoken , respectful person sharing some outdoor adventures and oh btw the meals looked really tasty . You're pretty humble.... I think you did a great job too with everything!
Aww I appreciate that ☺️ thank you so much 😊😊
Thanks for the plug! Enjoyed the video. Congrats on making it back to Klondike, and back to boot. Be proud, that's not an easy feat. Next time you'll have to camp there. It's a beautiful lake and my favorite.👍
Aww thank you!! I watch all of your videos! I saw where you took your daughters out there for practice for bigger trips and they did just fine. And then I saw how tough Algonquin was 😩 I want to do some bigger trips but I think I’ll need to do a few of these smaller ones first. Love your channel and thanks for being an inspiration!
@Apeaceofthewoods Your welcome, and thank you for watching. It's nice to know there's a few out there😀. No worries, you'll do fine in Algonquin and you should definitely go.
Awesome! I just recently went on my first solo canoe trip. I really enjoyed how much wildlife you see when camping on your own.
I haven’t seen much yet but I cant wait to see a moose! I just checked out your channel and looks like you’ve got a ton of experience. Wish I would have watched your canoe buying guide 6 months ago!
Thank you for checking the channel out. It would have been cool to have been able to shed light on the searching process.
Moose are definitely amazing creatures to find in the wild. We have seen many over the years, and it always leaves me in awe!
Just finishing up on a 16 day camping/kayak trip of my own. Not home yet but I have WiFi access again. You’ve learned a lot.... in a short period of time. Congratulations on landing that first fish on a solo trip. The expression on your face said it all.
Being able to be out for 16 days straight is a dream. I hope you’re somewhere amazing. Thank you so much! I honestly didn’t know if I would ever get there so it was a good feeling ☺️☺️
Glad this popped up in my feed! Enjoy the outdoors! Enjoy learning! I'll enjoy watching your journey.

I can understand, Ive lived I Michigan for 8 years and didn’t take advantage of it until now. I think I want to move to Marquette one day lol. Thank you for watching ☺️
I've lived here my whole life almost and never been to these lakes! I simply must visit them soon as they look gorgeous, as is most of the UP, stay safe and enjoy yourself, be sure to come back, we have much to offer!
You’re right, the whole UP is beautiful so I will be back. Every chance I get actually ☺️☺️☺️
Camping alone can be so peaceful and stressful at the same time. But your video reminded me I need to go out again! ❤
Haha it is exactly both of those things ☺️☺️☺️
Distractingly beautiful. The scenery is nice too. Well done. Looks like a great place to spend a few days.
Haha thank you ☺️ it is. I could spend more than a few days there

First time I ever saw your videos. I like that you don't gloss over any difficulties and admit that you are learning. Also it is a very welcomed relief that you keep your clothes on unlike so many others on YT.
Thank you so much ☺️☺️☺️ I appreciate that. I just wear what’s practical!
@@Apeaceofthewoods You are most welcome and thank you for the reply. I eagerly await your next videos to see your learning experiences.
Awesome job Woodsy! Love your videos! Stay safe!🥾🌲
Thank you ☺️☺️
Never go alone, ALWAYS bring some type of protection.
I've gone solo many times, most of peoples fears are just in their heads. and would only need bear spray and a first aid kit at most. Solo camping is a great way to reset.

I don’t think that sounds corny at all. It’s actually so true…I get such good sleep when it rains. Especially camping ☺️
That's a great spot 🙂 Just be safe out there on your travels. The weather is nice
The weather is nice but HOT! Thank you ☺️☺️
My wife and I watched this whole video. Very impressive how your learning as you go and are willing to just get out there and try. Love what you’re doing.
Aww thank you both ☺️☺️ I really appreciate the kind words!
Wow God blessed you with that beautiful fish!
Absolutely. And I am extremely grateful ☺️
Great video. Good skills. Well done on the catch too! ❤
From London, England.
Thank you, I appreciate it ☺️☺️
Nice portage trip!
I have been doing remote camping for years, I just tried my first canoe trip this week. I love it, thank you for the inspiration
Aww so happy to hear that! Canoe camping is definitely my favorite way to enjoy nature ☺️

It’s refreshing to see an adventurous young woman simply sharing her experiences without sacrificing her morals to make her channel grow. Kudos!
Aww I really appreciate that. Thank you so much ☺️☺️☺️
"morals" - I think it's super cute when any one individual thinks they get to decide what "morals" are, and are not.
@@Bluebloods7 I completely agree. Morals are totally individual and I don’t think we can pass judgement on anyone else based on our own ideas of what that looks like. I think this comment is referring to the fact that I am not sacrificing my own personal morals. And I can appreciate that being noticed

Nicely done. I'm impressed that you brave the wilderness alone. I'm a 65 year old black guy, and when I was backpacking, I only went solo once ( in Colorado). I came to this channel because I'm from Detroit (I've have been living in California for almost 40 years), but I've never been to the U.P. and was curious what backpacking there would be like. Well, ..., I salute your adventurous nature!
Cmon home. The U.P. awaits

Also appreciate this comment because I’m no expert by any means. I am just trying to get a little better with each video so I’m happy you noticed ☺️
I love this video. I have been putting my wife through the outdoor training camp lol. She is catching on great. I think you are catching on great also, the only three pieces of advice I will give is.
1. learn when to tighten and loosen your drag. (Different situations call for different tightness's, it took me a while to learn it also because I learn kind of slow.)
2. (As with anything in camping practice a little at home before going out trying it.)
(It seems like you can't go anywhere near my part of Appalachia without seeing them)
Glad you are becoming a part of the real world.
If it’s a situational thing than I think knowing when and how much to tighten it will have to come with experience
3. Love the cotton ball idea 😊
