    Been waiting for this update sis. Glad I haven’t tried it yet but I was about to. This is a very good video for those first timer sowing seeds and trying the grow your own cactus kit following the instructions not to cover them.

    Good to know. You’ve grown so many seedlings with the old method, looks like it is fail proof. Nice to see the comparison side by side. The plants look happy underneath the light, must be a good one. I grew outdoor seedlings in cardboard pots and they all molded too. 🌵🌵🌵🌵🌵💕😃

      Could not wait for this video . I burnt the soil by giving it too much time in the micro wave . Ten minutes is too much . Saw the video again , my mistake . What will happen if I don't micro wave the soil ?

    Very informative video Ana and interesting results. I used coco coir for sowing my Haworthia seeds but wished I hadn’t, had a few fungus issues with it and the little roots struggled getting through it and some seedlings actually pushed themselves out of the soil. Thank you for sharing with us as always, Ana. Have a wonderful day from Edith & myself 🌵☀️🌺🌼🌸🏜☕️

      Interesting updates on this experiment, Ana! 👍🏼 That hydrogen peroxide is potent. killed the bacterias in the soil and the seeds too? 😆 I used it before to combat fungus, albeit diluted but some plants ended up in plant heaven. Oh well...everyday we learn. Thanks for sharing with us. ❤️🌺🌼🌸🌵❤️

      Yes. We learn as we go, sometimes the hard way. 😉 We can say “been there, done that, now we move on”😉 Daz, the seedlings pushed their way out of the coco coir? Haha. They hated that medium, huh? We’ll see how the rest of my seedlings grow.

    This was a nice video. Yes sometimes our experiments are complete failures. I know all about it. We're always on the look out for how to do things better. I love LED lights. Oh to bad about walmart seeds. I'd try again with the method that works and not use their packaging. You never know what you'll get. As you know I enjoy doing carnivorous plant rescues from big stores like that. Some are common but sometimes you might get something unusual.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  3 года назад +1

      Yes, those Walmart seeds ain’t bad for its price. The seeds were good except someone should tell them to change their sowing instructions. I feel like that is their generic instruction for any type of seeds that they sell. But we know cacti seed sowing is quite different. I hope your cacti are all well! 😃

      @@CactusCaffeine I feel the same way about the carnivorous plant death cubes. Nothing but misinformation to kill your plant on those boxes. If people don't do their research most store plants will be killed if they aren't dead on arrival at the stores already.

    Could you do a plant tour again? Living in the desert as I do, I’d like to see where you are keeping some of your more rare cactus plants and what you do to protect them outdoors from pests like rodents. I have thought of getting a rack but I think I’m just going to invite more pests or should I get an outdoor grow tent? I think I could figure out what is best if I see your locations. You have me now hooked on Planet Desert as a great source for rare cactus, btw. 😀

    • @CactusCaffeine

      3 weeks ago I flushed the pots with water hoping to wash off the hydrogen peroxide. But the seeds still did not germinate. Oh well, lessons learned. Yes next time just use it to wash the seeds and not on the soil medium. 😉

    I just sowed 60 ariocarpus seeds using sand, perlite, and peat with hydrogen peroxide after watching hunters video.it's been exactly 48 hours and nothing has come up as of yet, I've never used hydrogen peroxide before, but i also microwaved for 1 minute to make steaming then I let the soil dry and I placed my seeds. I used all my retusus seeds 🥺 I guess I'll just stick to microwaving because I was hoping at least one seed would be up by now it's only my second time trying to grow cactus. The first time was about 5 years ago and I feel like I had something come up in 24 hours.

    • @CactusCaffeine

    • @CactusCaffeine

      Oh no! Maybe the soil wasn’t sterilized long enough? Or sometimes the seeds are not clean. I discussed how to control mold or fungus if they appear on my How to Grow Cactus Seeds video. But if all else fails, leave the bag open for a day or 2. Sometimes, a little drying out of the top layer will control the mold.

    So we want to keep the seedlings green then? Until what age?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  3 года назад +1

      If seedlings turn pink or red, it means that they are getting too much light. I find that this stunts their growth. They grow better and faster when they are green, at least until they start looking like a mini version of their adult form.

My last batch I went 100% inorganic and did a 1 to 3 ratio with hydrogen peroxide. 1 part hydro to 2 parts water. I use humidity domes and also water with same 1 to 3 ratio weekly.
