Congratulations on the new bike! Those mirrors you don't like are a very well executed interpretations of late 1970s / early 1980s Kawasaki mirrors -- all part of the retro appeal! If they work well I would definitely leave them alone.
I disagree. He should give it to that bloke that did his Enfield. Or better still, save some money, buy a shed from B&Q and an angle grinder, and modify it himself…! But not until he’s watched every video of the master bike customiser Delboy 👀🧐😎😜🙈 Even though any reasonable bloke could figure out that this is just a piece of harmless mirthful banter, just like most of my comments, the ever sensitive TMF will likely delete it as usual. By all means let me know if you can see it. Then maybe we won’t need to set up a reactions channel…! Peace
What a GREAT BIKE!!! I think you made an EXCELLENT choice!! It has plenty of power and a smooth running engine, and looks great to top it off.. Fantastic choice Sir!!! 😊
I met some tourists yesterday in Chattanooga, Tennessee on a riverboat cruise, and we ended up talking about this specific upcoming episode. I struck up a conversation with a couple who were in the US on vacation, specifically to attend the 120th anniversary celebration of Harley-Davidson, in Milwaukee. When I made the comment "you don't sound like you're from around here" they commented they were from England. Since we were both motorcycle riders, I mentioned that I followed someone on RUclips called, the Missenden Flyer. "Oh yes", the wife exclaimed, we only live about 20 miles from him, we watch him too. 🙂 The guy works as a Harley mechanic in a shop near you and they've been to the US several times. They are very nice folks, but I unfortunately failed to get their names. They're headed back to England soon so they have a few more days of sightseeing left. Just wanted to let you know your channel is probably a common denominator for motorcyclists around the world.
I run across a gentleman in town who has the Z650rs in the Kawasaki green. He had the same bike in 1978 new. He put a plank on the front porch of his parents house, rolled it into the living room for a photo. They were less than thrilled, so of course he had the photo enlarged and framed for a Christmas present. I suggested he needed to repeat the photo. He absolutely loves the stop and chat about his love for the bike.
Excellent choice TMF! My non RS model from 2021 has a set of Michelin Road 5 tyres on the bike. I was really impressed with the difference in grip running the road 5s over the OEM ones, especially in the wet. Happy riding :)
I have a 2018 and have switched tires once. Stayed with the Dunlop Sport Max GPR 300 F, and they work fine. Have almost 12000 miles on mine. I have done several 5 day trips. The bike is a dream. I use flexible Givi paniers that are easily detached. Enjoy.
Congrats with the Kawa! I have z900rs since 2019, switched from Dunlop to Michelin Road 5 and am very happy with the change. For luggage maybe check leather bags from SW-Motech.
I tested this bike three times and I fall in love with it all over again every time. I don't have the funds at the moment, but someday I'm sure I'll go crazy and buy this gem. Congrats on your purchase and have fun.
Front Mudguard extension in front of radiator is a must for me - especially rainy weather riding and helps avoiding grit and stones off road hitting rad - I also fitted polished radiator front grill ( for same reason) on my older RS ❤️ the colour scheme…..
@JohnHall-go4mz exactly doesn't stop anything in wet weather just aesthetics - that's why I fitted lower extension and rad guard - grit or pebble throu rad is a lot dearer....
Good luck - luv mine - there's nothing quite like that kawasaki powerband sound when opened up - a real rush..took me back to my old z1000 years back - enjoy - z900 is a brill engine - ps how do you find height - I'm a shorty 29 1/2" leg and had to buy the available lower seat to get my feet down -
Had mine 18 months , love the looks , sound , smoothness of engine , rider triangle , she is a head turner , I replaced the stock tires with Dunlop mutants , they warm up quickly , are great in the wet and handle the crappy UK roads with ease , and they give the bike even more of a mad max look .
Congrats...best choice! I`ve got mine since march this year.....the Z900 RS SE is a dream bike without a dought. I`ve got Kawas in the early years...GPZ and GT. After those....i rode about 30 years only v-twins (Guzzi and Ducati). And now after all the 2 cylinder years a four.....I made some little changes...tidy tail...smaller signs, mainstand, heat grips from Daytona, special seat with heating from BAEHR, USB for phone, phone holder, crash pads original Kawa, tank bag from sw motech and more - but not to much, the bike is nearly perfect. I wish you many nice miles...have fun and be careful. Regards from germany.
Fantastic bike! I have the smaller sibling of this, the Z650RS, and was out window shopping for a future upgrade, I did have my heart set on a T120, looked at Royal Enfields, HD’s, Moto Guzzi, and of course Kawasaki. Nothing quite has the retro muscles of the Z900RS, with the looks, and the 4 cylinders. Congratulations on the new bike! Hope the weather has cleared up and you have taken it out for a ride!
I noted in your first impressions review that you commented on the mirrors being totally solid - remember that and don't replace them! Kawasaki really know what they're doing when they fit items like mirrors and indicators and aftermarket tat will only cheapen the look and riding experience of the bike.
Ditto that... Had my Kaw for 3 years and the mirrors are fine. This is what they looked like on the orginal Z1 accept in Chome. No need to change what has been perfected during lessons learnt over c. 50 years. (Z1 built).
Many bikes come with mirrors that are useless, but if the works fine keep em for sure. I think a major positive for the Kawa is the totally adjustable forks. Shame on Triumph for not keeping up (like as 2019). Great looking bike.
The first bike I fell in love with was the original green and black Z900, and Kawasaki have done a cracking job with the updated retro version, what a beauty!.
1:16 Nice one Andy. I’ve had three. They are that addictive. Tyres: Michelin Road 5’s work well. All the guys at Leeds Bike Tyres use them. Luggage. SW Motech Legend Panniers work well & don’t spoil the looks. They also sell a blanking plate that looks good if you don’t want the panniers on. For my third one. I fit a grab rail & just put some triangular push bike bags on for a disc lock & helmet cable locks. I’m lucky enough to have a Harley Heritage & a Triumph Scrambler XE so luggage isn’t a problem. On my third because every time I px one for something else. I miss them so much. So keep hold of it mate 😂
I got a 2022 a month or so ago! I've wanted one ever since they came out, and the blue really spoke to me. I have about 1,500 miles on it now, and I still think it's my perfect motorcycle!
100% the right choice. My 2 favourite looking bikes are the interceptor and the Z900. I bought the interceptor purely on price but if I'd had the cash I would’ve went for the Kawasaki.
Great choice - would absolutely love one myself so very interested to hear how you get on over the next few months. One comment that seems to come up often is a snatchyfuelling system so grateful if you could cover that off after you’ve run her in.
Fuelling was absolutely dreadful on my 2022 Z900 RS, putting power on initially was okay but just the slightest rolling off of the power and the control unit basically stopped all fuel so the engine just slammed into deceleration, it was so binary that it just felt utterly snatchy. The Z900 forums are full of complaints about the fuelling which most people seem to thing is due to Euro5 requirements. The final straw for me was trying to ease on a gentle bit of throttle in a turn - the power just kicked in destabilising the bike, I sold it a week later.
What I love about my z900rs is the proportions - it’s a reasonably larger bike and the pillion has room. I really like the speed twin but it was just too small when you want to go out with a passenger.
Hi, I bought my Z900RS new in august 2019 (partially because of your review!), like you I had heated grips fitted by the dealer, I thought that they were quite expensive, but are worth the money, I have also made a few other mods/changes as well, I fitted a Rad guard, R&G frame sliders, Engine cases & fork protectors, a front mudguard extension, a hugger extension, a Givi tank bag locking ring, Kawasaki chrome grab handles & cotton reals on the swing arm, Regarding the tyres, almost every review I saw said you need to change them, I used them until they wore out, I found them to be ok, It's now got Bridgestone S22's fitted, the bike's now done 25k miles, Other than the dealer servicing cost(s), I'm very with it.
Based on my trust in your knowledge on present day motorcycling , and enthusiasm for this particular bike , I test drove one , and the rest they say is history ! Acquired SE last year , next best thing to going back in time 50 years and obtaining original yellow ball . THANKS for the nudge !!
One of the best looking modern retros on the market. Kawasaki have done a fantastic job of bringing one of the most iconic motorcycles of all time into the modern age. For me, the mirrors are part of the whole retro design. As for luggage, if it's for vlogging gear and not extensive touring, I'd probably go for a rack and top box to keep the lane filtering ability optimal. Hope you get some decent weather soon to really enjoy it.
Great choice! Of course, I’d say that because I bought one last month. I’m still getting used to it but initial impressions are very positive. I’m still trying to make up my mind on stock seat comfort, but everything else is on the mark. Enjoy. I’m looking look forward to your videos.😊
Yes ,that is true motorcycle riding ! no fairings no giant wind shield ETC! Reminds me of riding my dads bike "68 BSA 650 lightning in the 70s NFlorida. Thanks
Excellent choice Andy. Loving the retro looks of this kawa, its 👌. Waiting in eagerness for the upcoming reviews and comparisons to the Speed Twin. Both of which I am looking at for my next machine.
Ecu flash at Junction 33 developments. Send it to Andy ,he does the flash and sends its back within two days. You have to strip a bit of the rear end to remove the ecu from its cage as Kawasaki don’t want you to mess with it. Makes the bike so much smoother to ride
Congrats tmf, I bought my z900rs after your first review, and when you picked it as one of your favorite bikes that year. I've since put 75,000 km on it and it has been flawless, I filmed a quick walk around if you have the time check it out, there's not much stock parts on my kawi anymore.
I expect a few of us viewers are slapping our foreheads thinking 'of course' ! You've always had good things to say about the z900rs, Kawasaki have really mimicked the old z900 so well and of course it's a great bike just to jump on and enjoy......happy ownership Andy 👍
Congratulation on the new bike, no surprise really as you have always raved about the Z900 retro. Main tip for running in is to vary the speed, don't lug. Also don't be afraid of running through the rev range in lower gears. This helps the rings bed in better and every bike I have used this method has had excellent performance and no issues with oil usage.
Awesome choice mate. Can’t go wrong with that one. I do agree that the stock Dunlop tyres I’ve had on the 2 of Kawasaki’s I’ve owned have been rubbish. Would recommend changing, especially if you ride in the wet with the bike. Kawa needs to end whatever partnership they have with Dunlop and put some good tyres on their bikes that matches the bikes performance. On the z900RS couldn’t go wrong with a pair of Michelin pilot road 5, pricey but sticky 😂
Great choice and a beautiful bike Andy 🤩. Congrats!! I was inches away from buying the Kawasaki 2 months ago but landed on the XSR900. I'd love to have both tho. 👍👍
Welcome to the RS club! For luggage I would recommend the SW Motech Blaze Pro saddlebag set. Tyre-wise, I stuck on a set of Michelin Road 5s - much better than the stock Dunlops. I'd also recommend that you put on the pyramid fender extender and the hugger extension plus get a radiator guard - that front mudguard doesn't really do the job as it is too short. The only other extra I ordered when I got mine was the centre stand. Very convenient for chain maintenance. Lastly you may want to consider the passenger grab rail - really helps the look of them in my opinion plus also very handy for moving it around and popping it up on the centre stand.
I've a 2023 Z900RS too, base not the SE. Got it in March and put a couple of thousand miles on it already. Done some 300+ mile days, some aggressive road riding, and generally loving it. Bought myself a cowl for the longer journeys, a Shad luggage set for touring, and just had a handful of performance mods arrive. Gone for the Yoshimura cyclone straight system in black for the exhaust, a new performance air filter, and a Rapid Bike tuning kit. Looking forward to finding time to fit them all!
Nice bike. I think it's the best-looking of the retros and the 900-four is a good size for an all-rounder. If I was 21 again it would be near the top of my list. As an older rider I look at the lack of wind protection and luggage space. A touring screen and a rack with soft bag might be sacrilege to the stylists, but it would complete the bike for me.
Gorgeous bike, I'm a big fan of the Z900RS and especially the SE, if you haven't got one already, I'd get a radiator guard for it, I'd recommend evotech great quality...
Congratulations, on the new bike. The engine of this Kawasaki is a real peach and the retro look is refreshing, considering the present trend and prevalence of street fighter models on the naked style new bikes, it’s good to have this more classic style options but at the same time modern bikes in every technical aspect, what is excellent for security handling and ride enjoyment. It’s not easy to find the right accessories for this kind of bike. Triumph have some saddle bags options for the Bonneville bikes but not very practical , like for instance BMW and wunderlich have, for the R Nine T. Concerning the tyres, a good set could be the Pirelli Diablo rosso III , more suited for the winding type of roads, or the Michelin road pilot five, very good on the wet road conditions. These two sets of tyres will give you a very different riding experience, but they are both excellent options 🤙
Great bike. I should know, as I own its 2022 identical twin brother! I put 4000 km on it during the last 17 months. Things I like: -its looks. In my opinion it absolutely looks gorgeous, Kawasaki really hit a homerun here. The effort to stay close to the seventies original shows in every detail, and I’d say the most notable departure from its forefather is actually an improvement: the 4-1 exhaust system. It only needs two things: small bar-end cafe racer-style mirrors and a tail tidy. You already took care the tail end, and you did mention those mirrors in your video. I love the retro “Kawasaki” letter type on the tank of your example, mine has the more modern letter type. I might have to adress that in the future. -its nimble roadholding. Indeed most modern retro-styled nakeds will feel nimble if you have been riding around on a Yamaha XJR 1300 like I have, but this is a very tossable bike by any standard. One could argue that it’s too softly sprung, but that would be missing the point of this bike. It was not made for the track. -seating position: although it is not as engaging as a Speed Triple, it is a bike that you can comfortably ride all day long -economy: it’s running on fumes, but again, that’s coming from someone who rode an XJR 1300 for a long time (I still ride it occasionally) The list of things I don’t like is extremely short, like you mentioned in the video the underseat storage capacity is non-existent, room for a chain-lock would have been nice. You also mentioned the Dunlop GPR300 tires that come as factory standard, let me assure you that they are fully up to their task. My street riding style can be characterized (for as far as I am in a position to make a judgement about that) as “swift”, and I do like a couple of laps at the Nürburgring Nordschleife and the occasional track day (Zandvoort). I’m scraping the footpegs, but these tires have yet to disappoint me. The engine delivers anything you can expect from it, and it has a throaty soundtrack to it. You might say it lacks a bit of character, but character is by no means an objective area to judge a bike upon.
I got a 2018 z900rs mine came with tail tidy which I removed and purchased the standard rear guard as road filth was all over the pillion seat and up my back on a wet ride . I also fitted fender extender to front guard to keep so much road grime out the radiator . Small luggage rack and roll top bag does not spoil its good looks too much . Keep it coated in rust blocker as some steel fastners will rust even on unsalted wet roads . Mine too has much lighter scorpion red power full system exhaust and lithium battery which has help lighten it further. Enjoy .
Excellent choice! I’ve owned both the Z900RS and the Speed Twin and I think the Kawasaki is the slightly better of the two in terms of performance and fit and finish. The only thing that lets it down is the slightly snatchy throttle at low speed but you soon get used to it. Happy riding 👍
Happy new bike Andy! Hands down the best retro out there. On the luggage front, have a look at SW Motech's Legend range. I think they suit the bike and you don't have to have ugly scaffolding left behind when they're not in use. On the extra's front, did you consider a radiator guard and centre stand?
I have the 2018 root beer and orange model, and a milk crate bungie netted to the rear seat is my choice to carry stuff when I need to. True to form. Easy to remove as well since most of the time I ride it naked stock.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Hi Andy, I’m 5’6”, 64 years old and Influenced by your first video on the z900 rs, I bought my 2018 root beer brown and orange used with only 2800 miles on it. It came with rear chrome grab rail, which I love aesthetically and practically, sliders and radiator guard. I have replaced the brake oil reserve with a silver one, added handle bar extender, front fender extender to protect pipes, and added a Nelson Rigg Sport Tail bag for some storage while riding alone. I do like the SW Motec bags with removable rods, but I don’t need that much storage. I’m happy with Dunlop tires they came with and just replaced front tire after 13k miles. I ride mostly backroads in San Diego, California and very rarely ride in the rain. She’s so smooth and comfortable. She looks and sounds great. She’s reliable and will put a smile on your face every time you ride her. Enjoy 😊
When it comes to running it in, just ride normally, don’t labour/under rev and don’t go smashing the red-line. Vary the load and mix the riding up. Modern engines are so well engineered it’s not like the old days when you were mating the surfaces. Enjoy!
There will Still be a tiny amout of Swarf even in a modern Engine From the Engine Parts mating up & polishing themselves Thats why the Running in Oil Kawasaki put in the Engine Needs to be Changed at the 600 mile Sevice.. Then you will be Golden for Hundreds of Thousands of Miles..
Stick to revs the manual advises on Kawasaki’s but don’t let it labour nor be afraid to go over every now and then, the first 250 at 4000 revs are torturous I followed you and got the Interceptor you’ve now followed me on the SE, though my other bikes are all different to yours
@@martinmurray4812 seen plenty of people potter around at 3-4k rpm then burn oil down the road a few passes up and down the rev range each ride won’t hurt the thing
Tyres....If you tend to want to nip slightly off road on occasion whilst out and about on a country biking poodle then I'd definitely change out the Dunlops for a set of tank tracks! Superb off road handling.......:)
100% the best colour and model option for that bike and a better road bike than the Panigale for what it's getting used for. Was tempted by one myself but went more sporty to cover the track day use I wanted so it was a 23' 765RS. Yellow, of course! 😁😎. Enjoy the new bike and looking forward to following the adventure.
You finally got a four cylinder Japanese bike. That was the sound that ruled the roads when I was growing up in the States. These days, Harley’s rule, and that’s OK, but there is nothing like the howl of a four cylinder bike.
Excellent choice, I purchased the new 2023 black and red Z900 RS back in March of this year after trading in my Z650RS that I bought new last September. The Z900 RS is a phenomenal bike and puts a smile on my face every time I ride it. I’m sure you will love the choice you have made and I look forward to watching your videos on how you get on with it. You won’t be disappointed! Anthony
Excellent choice, I have the same model. The tyres are good, no need to change straight away. You’ll get 5K easy on the Dunlops. For storage, you could merely install the grab rail. Provides solid strap attachment for Ziegler bags. I’m curious if you will get on with the throttle. I won’t spoil the surprise. I’ll just wait to hear your opinion. Recommend you get Jordan Bikes to adjust the suspension. It’s worth it. Run in is normal, keep below 4K for extended periods. 900 miles comes quick, so book your service soon to avoid possibly going over. You might want to get the lower seat if you’re height challenged. 😉 Looking forward to your 1000 mile review. 🎉
Lovely looking bike,my mates got one found it under powered so fitted new down pipes and goes much better, kept original can. He said he likes the Dunlop trees.
fabulous choice i did the same saw it at a 2017 bike show and put an order in the next day to the Kawasaki dealer. Etras i put on was the grab rail, centre stand and radiator gril being in Hong kong didnt need the heated gribs.
Congrats TMF, you finally bought a 4 cylinder bike 👍 I think that you should get some Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE. I had them on my Z900 and have them on my MT-09 right now. The absolutely lovely: plush ride and plenty of grip for sporty riding. They’ve recently won the sport-touring tyre shootout in MCN. The tester was none other than Michael Neeves 😉
When I was a kid in the 80's, my much older brother owned a z1000 mk 2 with various mods on (Cowley four into one exhaust system - clip-on style handlebars - square headlight as was 'new fashion' then)... He was always working on it in the driveway while I played in the mud nearby lol. I am working my way towards owning one of these (probably the cafe version) as it is the perfect modern equivalent which can stand proudly next to my R7. Congratulations on a great purchase!
Absolutely love the bike and a great choice. I’m getting older (71) and still ride a sport bike so I think the Kawasaki would be a perfect replacement. Enjoy the ride.
Luggage is as pain. I now own a 2018 bobber black so I feel yours. Hepco are nice but the leathers are only ok in the wet. Congrats on the bike.. its you, Stuart, teapot and the lamb that made me finally get a bike again.
I made a comment years ago when you test rode the Z900 RS that I was surprised that it didn't make it into your garage at the time. Really looking forward to your future videos on that magnificent machine. Cheers.
I found when running in my 1000st is do it slow and gentle and build up gradually because after that the engine will perform better. When I had run in my bike I found there wasn’t many bikes could stay with me , but of course there were no speed cameras back then and not many police trying to catch us . Do you know the bridge north road well back then there were no traffic lights or islands and I could go from Wolverhampton to bridge north in six minutes I kid you not , I thought I was invincible and a bit crazy, them were the days I have fond memories 😊😊
Gorgeous bike, great choice, my favorite part is the traditional round speedometer and tachometer, and you still have a digital display for the gear position, fuel level etc.
That's a brilliant decision. You've been saying it for quite a while - "I love these 4 cylinder machines, I must pick one up..." You're possibly the first amongst many RUclipsrs I follow who has bought this iconic machine. All the best and merry riding.
Excellent choice. Bought mine Mar23, 4kmiles since then. Engine is a peach and all day comfortable. I ride fairly hard and got 3700 out of the GPR300’s which are excellent in the wet and dry
Sweet. I saw that gold wheel peeping out from under the cover and thought it might be that bike. Sure enough, you remove the cover and there she is. In all her beauty and glory. My bike riding days likely behind me, but if I were in the market for a new bike, this is likely what I would buy too (it would at least be on any short list). Incredible looks, solid engine, the SE model has the upgraded brakes and suspension and Kawasaki bikes are known to be reliable as well. Great choice. I would make the same one myself.
A lovely example - I have a 2022 Z900RS and it's a great bike. Funnily enough in the video when I saw the header pipes leading to the exhaust under the cover I guessed it was one of these based on your previous glowing review of it!
Gratz, I have the exact same bike and it's a beauty. I put Michelin Road 6's on mine plus a rad guard, front fender extender and I later got a custom saddle. The only oher thing I would recommend is a) removal of the ugly fuel sticker on the tank (dead easy to remove) and having the suspension setup for your weight and riding style. Enjoy!
Delkevic chrome four into four system that copies the original Z900 system. Outstanding. Lighter & well made. Makes the bike. I had this system on my Z900 R/S. Rob
I have had a standard RS since March 2018 and its fab. Not the fastest, not the best handling but my go-to bike when I need a relaxing ride. I do not think that you will be dissappointed!
Welcome to Team Green Andy! You may recall I was on the Total Tuscany Tour with you back in May (Ken Pagel). Great choice on the bike and great color choice! I currently own an early production '73 900 Z-1, and a '75 Z-1B, both restored to original condition. A 900 RS may also be in my future. Enjoy!
Back in the 80's I had a '73 Kawasaki 900 Z-1, the bike that your new machine is designed to harken back to. That beast could pass anything on the road but a gas station! Enjoy your new ride and stay safe.
Your round-up of retros from a few years back helped tip my decision when looking. Absolutely love mine. Coming up on 4 or so years with zero issues. One thing many sleep on is, unlike the others in this category, this doesn't ride retro at all. Very easy to get modern performance from this one. If willing to risk it can open up 15 more hp and drop around 20 pounds with a full exhaust swap, but I've loved it stock. There's a thriving customization scene in Japan that's fun to watch for this bike. Many Z900rs lovers over there (I Think only like three of us in Bangkok sadly).
Congrats Mate!!! In 1978 i bought the original Z900 from 1975 aka "Frankensteins Daughter", because she was nearly unrideable. A german bike magazin wrote: If you buy this Bike don't forget the extra money for Shocks (Konis @that time) and usable bushings for the swing arm. I had so much fun with her, i'm still in love.
Great choice. I have a 1976 Z1000A1, but it doesn't quite have the original Z1 look. I've considered having it re-painted in the same colour scheme you have, but don't want to spoil the originality of the bike.
Nowhere near the same bike but I bought the Hepco and Becker C Bow pannier kit for my RE Meteor. They may not be cheap but the quality and function is top notch. Used them for a recent week long trip and they were great. Mine came with inner roll top dry bags and I bought the Hepco combo locks for the zip fasteners mine have. Mate had some throwovers and they leaked like a sieve. The hepcos lock on and off the frames in seconds to take them to your room.
The Japanese UMC I-4 is the most practical and comfortable platform of all time, It can do everything you will ever need on tarmac, A top box rack/rail would be a good accessory,
Hi Andy Lovely looking bike love the colours. Unfortunately the weather is terrible at the moment you will just have to sit in garage drooling over it. Enjoy 😊
Great choice Andy. I had one for 18 mths between GSs. It did make me a bit of a hooligan, but I really missed it when I sold it. I tried to buy another as a 2nd bike, but the prices of even 2nd hand examples went through the roof. My mods were: a small Hepco & Becker ‘sports’ rack which didn’t spoil the looks & gave my wife a decent grab rail & a mounting point for a SW Motech bag for my stuff - easily detached when not needed. I also fitted a colour matched Pyramid Ermax cowl which enhanced the look & covered the pi$$pot brake fluid res - the only bit of the bike I hated. A fender extender & rad guard finished off the mods. I still really miss the bike. Enjoy.
Holy Kaw! You found one of these! Congratulations! I am looking forward to your forthcoming reviews. Went to a dealer and looked at the cafe version last week and was surprised that it was taller than expected. Still thinking on it.
All my Kawi's had Avon Tires on them. Changed out the stock tires shortly after buying the bike. 900 LTD 1000 Z1R (3 of them) GPZ1100 KZ1300 (Best bike I had)
Gorgeous. Great looking bike - a real motorbike. The ohlins shock should in theory allow better body control with better (softer/firmer) bump / rebound damping, than stock. Needs setting up for you. Stiffness is set by spring supplied. Black and yellow / gold is perfect. Of course green would work just as well. Michelin Road 6 is perfect all weather tyre. If you're looking for something that is good in the wet, but exceptional in the dry, Bridgestone S22 is a good choice. I went from Bridgestone S22 to the Bridgestone sport touring T32, and instantly noticed a reduction in front end grip.
I got a lot of miles out of the stock tires. I took my Kaw RS up to Lake Saranac in NY, using soft luggage. To prevent the bags from rubbing against the rear tire I used a bungee chord an attached it from the seat rail ot the passenger pegs. That worked very well from keeping the bags away from the rear tire. You are gonna love the Z900. It's actually quite comfortable on long trips.
Congratulations on the new bike! Those mirrors you don't like are a very well executed interpretations of late 1970s / early 1980s Kawasaki mirrors -- all part of the retro appeal! If they work well I would definitely leave them alone.
Totally agree, and they do indeed work very well!
Andy likes his bar end mirrors 🤣 I’m not a fan, I like the original style too 👌🏻😎
I disagree. He should give it to that bloke that did his Enfield. Or better still, save some money, buy a shed from B&Q and an angle grinder, and modify it himself…! But not until he’s watched every video of the master bike customiser Delboy 👀🧐😎😜🙈
Even though any reasonable bloke could figure out that this is just a piece of harmless mirthful banter, just like most of my comments, the ever sensitive TMF will likely delete it as usual.
By all means let me know if you can see it. Then maybe we won’t need to set up a reactions channel…!
Peace
Don't be a numpty, nobody would put panniers on one of those, get yourself a decent backpack ..
@@Kahuczech Some people would.
A fine choice there, and you just can't beat gold wheels. Lovely looking machine.
How cool is that!
Absolutely brilliant choice. I loved the original 1970s version and this is so reminiscent of it. The reveal put a big smile on my face. Enjoy.
Excellent choice TMF! My non RS model from 2021 has a set of Michelin Road 5 tyres on the bike. I was really impressed with the difference in grip running the road 5s over the OEM ones, especially in the wet. Happy riding :)
Beautiful looking bike. I personally think it would suit having an exhaust each side, then it would be 100%.
I've seen one with a 4 into 4 fitted! It looked amazing, you really would mistake it for an original and sound epic too....
@3:18 Gilk's Garage cafe is a favourite haunt of mine! Love the team there
I recommend fitting the factory grab rail. It complements the 1980s look & Mrs Flyer will appreciate it too.
Agreed, the chrome rail finishes off the back end.
I agree and I have a RS, the grab rail is the best option to fit...
Hmm might have to think about that…
You meant the “1970s look”, right? 😊
A must is to get a radiator guard fitted. Agree it’s a great bike bike. I have has mine 3 years in the original brown/orange colour scheme.
The evotech covers the ugly bits best!
That's alwsys been my favourite colour too 👌
Thanks for the recommendation - the rad is seriously exposed.
@@TheMissendenFlyer just make sure you get the correct year version, as they increased the rad size around 2021.
Get an evotech as looks good excellent quality and easy to fit. You just remove the two side cover bolts put guard on and edit the side cover
That’s gorgeous, enjoy it to the max. Can’t help wondering if your Speed Twin is sitting there going “Hang on, retro fun, isn’t that my job?” 🤔
What front mudguard. It’s pathetic.
Very nice!
Nooooo way! I genuinely didn’t see this coming. What a bike⚡️⚡️
It’s a cracker isn’t it - very different to my other retros but a blast to ride!
Coolio!
Mine is a little jerky but not as bad as the speed twin was before I sorted that out with the booster plug and throttle spacer…
My pleasure!
You defo need to stay tuned then cos I’m going to defo be doing some ownership comparisons…
@@TheMissendenFlyer I bet the Kawasaki won’t leak and probably cheaper to maintain
Ecu flash at Junction 33 developments.
Send it to Andy ,he does the flash and sends its back within two days.
You have to strip a bit of the rear end to remove the ecu from its cage as Kawasaki don’t want you to mess with it.
Makes the bike so much smoother to ride
Great choice! As a Jaffa owner, I do approve, and you’ll probably know there is a fantastic owners’ group on Facebook. Cheers, Oli
Congrats tmf, I bought my z900rs after your first review, and when you picked it as one of your favorite bikes that year. I've since put 75,000 km on it and it has been flawless, I filmed a quick walk around if you have the time check it out, there's not much stock parts on my kawi anymore.
Really liked your walk around 👍
@davidhall2298 thanks David, the production compared to Mr. Flyer is kind of embarrassing however 🤣
I expect a few of us viewers are slapping our foreheads thinking 'of course' ! You've always had good things to say about the z900rs, Kawasaki have really mimicked the old z900 so well and of course it's a great bike just to jump on and enjoy......happy ownership Andy 👍
I thought this was going to his new bike like 2 new bikes ago. By now it had almost slipped my mind.
what a beautiful bike 🤩
I love it!
Yes I love black and gold colors. My Zero DSR is black with gold rims. Some people love how that looks and give me compliments.
That’s basically my approach too - thanks for confirming it!
Second the Road-5's, worth every penny when the roads wet😂
Great choice and a beautiful bike Andy 🤩. Congrats!! I was inches away from buying the Kawasaki 2 months ago but landed on the XSR900. I'd love to have both tho. 👍👍
I love the look of this bike, but I agree with your choice as the XSR900 has cruise control! Enjoy your new ride!!!🤠
Also went for the XSR, loving the performance. Feels so much more stable than the previous version
I did just that, put a Puig screen and Ventura rack on 22 RS. There is zero space under the seat.
Gorgeous bike, I'm a big fan of the Z900RS and especially the SE, if you haven't got one already, I'd get a radiator guard for it, I'd recommend evotech great quality...
Yes I’m going to check those out…
I’ve got a Evotech guard on my Trident…Good piece of kit! 👍
Get all Evotech parts. Super quality.well designed and made in UK. Have their parts all over my bikes. Wouldn't buy any other brand.
Evotech rad guard on order! Thnaks for the recomendations....
Things I like:
-its looks.
-seating position: although it is not as engaging as a Speed Triple, it is a bike that you can comfortably ride all day long
-economy: it’s running on fumes, but again, that’s coming from someone who rode an XJR 1300 for a long time (I still ride it occasionally)
The list of things I don’t like is extremely short, like you mentioned in the video the underseat storage capacity is non-existent, room for a chain-lock would have been nice.
I agree all round - thanks for stopping by!
Yep - rad guard on order
@@TheMissendenFlyer
Hi Andy,
I’m 5’6”, 64 years old and Influenced by your first video on the z900 rs, I bought my 2018 root beer brown and orange used with only 2800 miles on it.
Enjoy!
Yes that’s basically my approach - cheers!
Modern engines are well built?....KTM enters the chat 😂
There will Still be a tiny amout of
Swarf even in a modern Engine
From the Engine Parts mating up
& polishing themselves
Thats why the Running in Oil
Kawasaki put in the Engine
Needs to be Changed at the
600 mile Sevice..
Then you will be Golden for
Hundreds of Thousands of Miles..
Stick to revs the manual advises on Kawasaki’s but don’t let it labour nor be afraid to go over every now and then, the first 250 at 4000 revs are torturous
I followed you and got the Interceptor you’ve now followed me on the SE, though my other bikes are all different to yours
Welcome to the club, i managed to get mine first time around although they still made me wait, year and a bit in and still a joy to ride, enjoy.
Nice - that was close to the top of my list too!
Fantastic bike! It looks gorgeous 👍 Be really interested to hear your thoughts when you’ve had it for a few months as I’m very tempted by the Z900RS.
Great choice Andy, she’s a beauty! I’ll have to keep an eye out for that lovely yellow paint when I’m out riding over your way.
Anthony
Glad to hear that!
Looking forward to your 1000 mile review. 🎉
I was told first run in service at 600 miles by the dealer?
@@TheMissendenFlyerI checked my owner’s manual. I stand corrected, it’s 600 miles. You better book now. 😂
One of if not THE best looking bikes currently available, Beautiful.
Congrats TMF, you finally bought a 4 cylinder bike 👍
I think that you should get some Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE.
I had them on my Z900 and have them on my MT-09 right now. The absolutely lovely: plush ride and plenty of grip for sporty riding.
They’ve recently won the sport-touring tyre shootout in MCN.
The tester was none other than Michael Neeves 😉
Yes I've had a couple of sets of those on my GS - the longevity was brilliant....
I wouldn't have guessed, but looking back at the older videos it is less of a surprise. Nice choice, curious to see how you get along with it.
I'll keep you up updated!
Very cool! ...and thank you!
Cheers.
You sowed the seed!
Good choice, I had one for a few years in the early eighties.
These new ones really look the part.
Right choice. Can't go wrong with a Japanese bike. I'm going to buy the same one. That color comb is magic. Well done chap.
I did the DGR and saw one and was chatting with the owner. Great bike! Congrats
Thanks....
I was around when they came out and they had pack racks over the back seat you can still get them. Very period and easy to take off.
Enjoy!
Funnilty enough I have a rad guard and fender extenders on order and the stickers are now gone from the tank!
Gold wheels look amazing. About time Triumph brought back gold and black scheme. Those twin dials hit the spot to. Enjoy.
Finally enjoyed a RUclipsr buying something I like too🥳
Very happy for you! Enjoy that sweet ride and please share some future rides with us :D
Gorgeous bike TMF! 🏍 I waited almost 2 years for my CRF 300l Rally. I think you will love it.
Enjoy!
Great to hear from you Ken! Glad you like my new steed! Hope you’re keeping well?
Wow - you’re pretty exclusive then! Nice one….
The Japanese UMC I-4 is the most practical and comfortable platform of all time, It can do everything you will ever need on tarmac, A top box rack/rail would be a good accessory,
Hi Andy
Lovely looking bike love the colours.

I would not have guessed that, seems close to the Royal Enfield in style and category. I hope you have many happy miles and smiles.
