    FLIGHT CHOPS DISCLAIMER:
I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive

I hope you know how much good your channel and many other aviation channels are doing for the next generation of aviators. I am just now doing my PPL, but I never knew the details and excitement that can be found in so many different avenues of the aviation world besides flying military or commercial airliners (not that they are any less important!). It's a wealth of knowledge and inspiration for the next wave of new pilots and I appreciate the content greatly!

Congrats on starting your PPL! Whenever I start mine, I'm considering vlogging the whole process like Steve did with his original debriefs.

Thank you! It really is a wonderful thing to fly. Worth every penny!

    • @ShadowOfTheZone

You should! I tried to, but the video equipment I had was cumbersome and was more trouble than I was willing to deal with. I certainly see the value in it though.

It might be worth every penny, but if it were not so outrageously expensive many more would become pilots.

I couldn't imagine being able to fly that low, that fast and monitor the instruments for temps & pressures etc. Those guys are certainly a different breed of pilot.

I am just learning about my great uncle who flew P51 in WW2 with the RCAF
He was killed post war in a crash as a trainer as a result of mechanical malfunction just after take off.
Watching you fly inspires me more to learn about him and that amazing machine
PS I am in Colorado as well
    Fly well , be safe
    And thank you,

Must say thank you to JP for sharing his debrief and providing race commentary... outstanding. As a fellow weekend warrior, plain old aviation enthusiast and race enthusiast myself, the opportunity to be in the cockpit in that fashion is as thrilling as it is educational and just downright freakin' awesome. Thanks again!

Interesting. I have never been to the Reno Air Races (I will go now) so I wasn't sure what they were about. Thanks to Elliot, Dennis, and JP for letting us ride along. The common ground that I see in the videos is the intense concentration on their faces...

What I wouldn't do for a ride along on THAT! What a blast that would be! 😎
I know I'd just slow them down, even though I'm fairly compact ... any extra weight can mean the difference between winning and losing, for sure. No different in drag racing - physics is physics! At least we can ride along here virtually - THANKS Steve!! 👍👍

Thanks for posting less edited content. Huge fan of the fewer cuts you put in there - context and micro-decisions (like hearing a first backfire, and trusting your gut, or seeing that voltmeter not hit the green, but taking off anyway) - are the moments that we will stay safer by seeing/deciding ahead of time, but can rarely anticipate in the way we hope to be the case when we pre-flight brief. If you've never had an abort for electrical or partial engine failure, the "engine fails land straight ahead" won't ring untrue yet.

Not sure if your subscribers realize just how insane it is for you to be putting out day of recaps of this event, but you're a madman!
I'm on my 5th year of filming a 4 day auto-racing event with a small team of friends and there's nothing like it. Every morning starts before dawn and your lucky to be in bed by midnight once you've got all your memory cards dumped, batteries charging, and equipment ready for the next day. You get pulled into another world for a few days and nothing outside it exists. Everyone out there experiences it, whether pilot, crew, or staff member and it's what creates racing "families", that shared intensity and love of going fast.
It's awesome to see this side of Reno and for them to allow you in to be a part of it and to share it with the rest of us. That's no small thing, which I think you are aware of. Im curious to see, when this is all over, whether you get bit by the bug. You'll know for certain when you look at the calendar months from now and catch yourself counting down the days.

One thing about using GoPro's, or any fisheye lens camera, to judge distance to those pylons is that they distort it pretty severely. I've found that to be the case in my mountaineering and climbing footage as well, and they really distort pitch angles to make everything look steeper than it actually is.
