quick fact, usually shells everywhere on the beach at the surf are a sign of strong rip currents, generally youll see more shells on outgoing rip currents. it drafts the shells into a column. shes right dont swim there at all. the point and around it has terrible rip currents you simply cannot over come. most fishermen fish off the beach not in the surf. be careful out there. great fishing but dangerous waters!
There's really nothing new about this "island". This site was formerly the southern point of Hatteras Island, which slowly eroded away. Recent storms and shifts in current pushed enough sand back over that shoal that it was high ground, for a little while.
Exactly
It’s just re forming the island
A little girl named wasn't a boy named Caleb she is girl named Shelly
It's very beautiful, but yet scary. Most Nature can give, but can also take away. I hope no one is planning to build any hotel or resort till the land is owned and is guaranteed stable
The island is gone. Swept away by a hurricane.
I went in August. I easily swam to the island during low tide
Please research the history of the outer banks to learn why there are thousands of ship wrecks there, it is not due to currents as stated.
I love the outer banks man so much history lol
I love how all these responses are not accurate lmao. I live here, and the shipwrecks are because sand is slowly built up and that's how they wreck. Sometimes yes it could be natural boat problems, or maybe water, but a majority are because of the sandbars.
Oh and if youd like to see them, u recommend the manteo, outer banks helicopter tours, they're great.
German u boats sunk a lot of ships.
Well said Tom! Sandbars, unpredictable weather, the most dandangerous inlets on the east coast, these are the main reasons for the name "graveyard of the Atlantic "! I know several people who have been shipwrecked at oregon inlet! " the bar" has claimed many lives over the years
Why was this news? Shoals and inlets pop up and disappear all the time.
News correspondents and anchors act as if they have never experienced the basic activities of life. It's interesting to watch a segment where they try to explain something as basic as changing a tire, and it is like the rest of the world knows nothing about it.
we need to build some more bridges in case the ferrys get shut down so people can get out .if a hurracane is coming we need more ways to leave
@gregcarver1915 you want to be stuck on a island with no way off . knock your self out . in a hurracane before it comes and the ferrys want move because of high winds and waves go for it .
I'm not sure this is there anymore.
Well, rip Shelly island
Pffft. In August I effortlessly swam to the island.
ginger thank you great
Mermaids put 🐚🌊 shell's on the island 🏝️ before it appeared out of the water 💦
And less then a year later the Island has not grown, but has disappeared.
Sue TG yeah, sadly. I wish it stayed longer
Me too :(
How do we make this fit our global warming narrative? Because I been telling all my friends Miami was gunna be underwater anyday now...
Your mask will protect you from the virus like your shorts will protect you from your farts
Good video
"it can take a tropical storm or a hurricane and it will be gone" at 4:08 duhhhhhhhhhhhhhh dorian......
I think Hurr. Florence, the year before, was Shelly Island's undoing. My friend said the temporary island was gone when she went last August, before Dorian hit.
It was never sub marine it was always nautical. Also not a island just a sand bank.
why on earth would someone live on a random barrier island that literally formed overnight?... @4:04 I'm glad someone was smart enough to mention that! If a category 5 hurricane strikes that place will be gone! :S
Could anyone tell what the news anchor in-studio was saying at 2:18/19?
you referring to "no nor'easters"
I walked last month and I was fine
fished it first week of october 2017
Manta rays are not dangerous, just big.
She is SO GOOD, she really is.... 😵 Really?
🙄Do people just not touch the Earth anymore? It always in constant motion, always has been always will be. Just like life itself, lol
People are explorers and we always will be
We swam with sand sharks at Huntington, they didnt bother.
Big freakin deal....Dubai made a giant Island look like a Palm tree and the World.....and it won't go away like Shelly Island just did last week.
How many billions of dollars and environmental damage does it take to build and maintain those man made "islands"? Come on.
I don't know...how many? Obviously it's a windfall for the country considering their construction projects dwarf anything that was ever built in Vegas or NY
Haha
Love to bet it’ll be gone after the hurricane
Haha
Strange
Some Island is formed and some is submerged under water
I can see England fighting over a island like this 😂
Nice feet
kids are ruling the world, that why it a mess up!
