Gracias The Killers.

(Oh-oh-oh-oh) In the land of the free Down at the border, they're gonna put up a wall Concrete and Rebar Steel beams (I'm standing crying) High enough to keep all those filthy hands off Of our hopes and our dreams (I'm standing crying) People who just want the same things we do In the land of the free Land of the free, land of the free In the land of the free Land of the free, land of the free Land of the free, land of the free In the land of the free Land of the free, land of the free Land of the free, land of the free Land of the free, land of the free In the land of the free (I'm standing crying) Thank you killers for making such an incredible and relatable song.
This song made me cry from the first couple of lines and then I picked up my two daughters and gave them the biggest hug and I said a prayer of thanksgiving that I was lucky enough to be born in this unbelievably beautiful, stable and orderly country. I am reminded that "Where much is given, much is required!" Almost everyone in this country is an immigrant, to demonize or be afraid of those seeking refuge, employment or a better life in this country is to disgrace our own heritage and ancestors. It is our duty to help those less fortunate. Each one of us has people in our own neighborhood, city, state who need help, many of whom may be immigrants. If you aren't helping someone less fortunate than you, pick 1 person today and help them get on their feet! May God bless the Land of the Free!
You forgot the part where Homeland Security said there was criminals in the crowd and the fact that these people refuse to cross the border legally and they fact they were throwing rocks at our police. And not almost everyone in this country is a immigrant most people are born here +There are people who have been waiting to get citizenship for years now and think about how it feels to watch these people break they law and then bam they live here. You shouldn't be hoping for these people more like hoping for ICE to safely detain them and send them to there home countries.
@@kylejamessmithproductions7848 If you live in America, at least have the decency to move out before expressing your hatred. It doesn't look good when people stay here and make a living and then whine. *eye roll*
4 years later its just as powerful and urgent a message , yet we as a country still have made little to no progress, too many think everythings fine as it is. I Hope Brandon Flowers continues to shout it from the rooftops, and use his presence on the world stage to try to drive the point home.
Great to see The Killers put into song an issue that they care about, well done. And a powerful short film to accompany it, symbolising the paradox of the Land of The Free, for some at least, with the Stars and Stripes flown upside down, indicating distress. Apt symbolism that strikes at the core of the issue.
What exactly is this “issue?” So many confuse broken humanity and our broken world and that reality and blame it on a country where you can do any job you want, go anywhere you want, date anyone you want, that has brilliant Constitutional checks and balances that allow “We The People” to challenge the government and make incredible change (Look at Brown vs bd. Of Ed). It isn’t always perfect, but don’t blame the country. All of us are empowered to make individual decisions every day that are protected by the Constitution and this great Republic.
This... THIS is what we have been waiting for! This song brings together the soaring choruses of Hot Fuss, the sheer energy of Sam's Town, the social awareness of Day & Age, all while charting brand new territory for the band. THE KILLERS STILL HAVE IT!!
totally fuckin making connections where none exist........and guess what they kinda dont...................dumbest "smart person" award for monday 1/14/19 i love them but im not gonna lie and say its better.
XanderRcage Jesus Christ. Firstly, it’s an observation about a song. Secondly, if you’re going to use unnecessary elipses at least format them correctly.
There is a serious Bruce Springsteen feel to this .. I say this as a compliment to the highest degree... Real music , vocals with heart and soul .. I do not foresee a tragic drug overdose or suicide.. Many of their songs give me chills that I thought at age 50 would not happen .. Please give me a Killers covering ' Backstreets '.. Flowers could ace playing a younger Springsteen !
Well I guess that settles it. It is now more important than ever to funnel these immigrants to a legal port of entry so they at least have a chance in the future of becoming citizens. To encourage them to cross illegally just puts them immediately on a course where they will never achieve it unless given amnesty... Think it through. We are now in a place politically that the democrats would need to win the house, senate and presidency and push through amnesty and then lose all power in the next election...hoping to grant enough amnesty to increase their own political power. The remainder of America including all immigrants who came here legally will turn away from democrats for decades after that. Only 14% of legal immigrant Hispanics in America are against the border wall. 86% are for it. The wall would be good for the democrats too. If they succeed in blocking it...they are just shooting themselves in the foot. The Republicans will make it clear that every criminal or terrorist act after that by an illegal is because of the Democrats. Coastal liberals are taking polls within their own coastal liberal communities. Take a poll in the "fly over" states where all the "deplorable s" live. See what they think.
I just heard "Wake up and smell the coffee" moment. Every word, every phrase, broke my heart. This is the most honest representation of the anguish this country has been going through for these longest, most bitter four years. I can't stop listening to it and I cry. It may not be an anthem. It feels like sorrow and fear and regret. Ever word sings America. Every word rings of truth. Truth that makes you want to hang your head in shame. Thank you Killers. You slay me. It hurts to hear but sometime truth and beauty hurt.
I’m literally crying. I love the killers so much and just that they’re not afraid to say all this knowing that there’s gonna be people who judge them is just so incredible. (I don’t entirely agree with everything in the lyrics but it’s still amazing.)
I did a lyric analysis of this song with my 11th grade English students. It was pretty powerful. The Killers' use of Rhetoric is outstanding in this song, not just in the lyrics, but the tone as well. It's so heartland American, which is who he is making his plea to. It is a call for understanding when people have closed their hearts and will not see people, only difference. We've also cross referenced this song with Bob Dylan's "Shelter From The Storm".
My grandparents fled Leninist communism, my brother in law just got his citizenship last year... difference? Legal!! Please don’t feed these children your liberal ideologies through good music. It’s because of this backlash that we got Trump, and trust me... he won’t be the last for sure
@@taylorprocker I'm lost on your comment. At what point did you think I was teaching Liberal Ideologies? Is it a liberal ideology to care for those who are suffering or is that a Christian ideology, or a conservative ideology, or a Jewish ideology, or an Atheist ideology? You tell me...
They've aged a TON. Not necessarily in a bad way. They're just different. And it makes sense. 15 years ago they wrote break up songs. Now they're middle aged men so the content is going to be vastly different.

Exactly it's a really refreshing change. The issue is because it giant showcasing that and having people with hardly any clothes on it will never get the publicity or airtime it deserves (sadly the case for the majority of their songs!)
yea its not really gutsy to trash america. We've heard the same shit for 30 years. Our leaders treat Americans like its a big toilet for the failures of the world. The hatred of Europeans is endemic... Defend the existence of European ingroup preferences, now that would be gutsy.

I think people forget that there are countries like Honduras or Venezuela where the situation is so dire and desolate, that it’s either run or be killed. I personally know people who have crossed the border illegally because, well it was either that or their children would have to join a gang. The legal issue is one that we, as Americans, look at from a comfortable side, from the other side of the wall. We criticize without empathizing, and that’s where we’re wrong. Thank you to The Killers for highlighting one of the many areas that we can still fix in the Land of the Free.
_Oscar Aragon_ *Empathy does no good unless the one you're giving it to, is emphatic towards you. Empathy shouldn't be given stupidly. That can get you killed. The girls that were beheaded and raped with a knife were emphatic to a fault. Empathy can and has been used as a masterful weapon.*
Oscar Aragon Total bullshit comment. Fuck you, fuck your ignorant comment and your thoughtless words which insult all the legal immigrants and natural born citizens that have been killed or victimized by illegal immigrants.

Do you let strangers into your home when they need shelter? If you don't, then use that logic to understand borders. Rome did, and when they couldn't hold their borders... huh, they collapsed. So strange.
@@GoodGranted I was merely posting the lyrics , I was not commenting on the political stance of the song. I agree with what you're saying, but as with anything it is never just back or white, and there is obviously the human element to be considered. One of the other points of the song was about the irony of the view that anyone can come to the "land of the free" and make a name for themselves, except actually they can't - so how can it be land of the free.
@@GoodGranted Rome didn't collapse because they took in immigrants and refugees. That's what you're implying. There are a number of things that contributed to the fall of Rome. There's a huge difference between an invading force and having people cross the border illegally. The biggest contributing factors to the fall of Rome were an over-reliance on slave labor, invasions by Barbarian armies, unstable economy, over-expansion of the military, overspending within the military and rampant corruption within the government. Which kind of sounds familiar. So your fall of Rome comparison fits here. Just not the way you think it does. Pick up a book sometime.
Being a child of immigrants this really hit home and made me realize even more so what my parents gave up for me to have what they didn’t. An education. An opportunity to be born in the U.S. and be a legal citizen. A college education. A good future. Thanks mom and dad for everything. I do often think about what they’ve sacrificed for me, but this made me sit here and cry and reflect upon my life for a solid 15 minutes. Jeez, once again, thanks mom and dad for putting your life’s in danger so that I didn’t have to one day endanger mine or my family’s, thanks. And thanks The Killers for making this meaningful song.
@P. Doherty yeah, sure snowflake. It is completely different from what you said. I hope the "millions" on the "caravan" start killing and taking land. That's how an immigration process should be done according to you.

@Craig Pomeroy Actually, they do. They just don't see it the same way you and some of the others do. I would suggest they have a lot more compassion for their brothers and sisters than you and your ilk do. And I guarantee they don't want you as a fan.
On December 12th 2012, I woke up, unlocked my phone, and, like so many others, saw the pleas to “Pray for Sandy Hook.” The news was devastating. Heart wrenching. A gut punch. But, sadly, not as shocking as it should have been. As a father I’ll never fully comprehend what that community and those parents went through. But my church upbringing taught me to mourn with those that mourn and I did it the best way that I knew how. I cried for those kids and teachers. I got on my knees and I prayed for those families. If there was a single moment that I mentally began to assembly “Land of the Free,” that was it. In the months and years that followed, America would be hit with an onslaught of more mass shootings of innocents and too many examples of racial injustice to ignore. After some self education and soul searching- with the help of great beacons like Ava DuVernay’s “13th,” and my friend Jimmy Kimmel’s powerful opening monologues- I couldn’t help but sit down and commit how I was feeling into a song. We dishonor our values, our ancestors and our heritage when we tear gas our brothers and sisters seeking asylum. I see my family in the faces of these vulnerable people. After all, it wasn’t that long ago that my grandmother and her family immigrated from Lithuania to escape the U.S.S.R’s oppression. They chose to leave everything they knew behind to come to America, and work grueling jobs in dangerous coal mines, rather than endure tyranny at home. I love my country. I know that these are complicated issues but whether you stand the left, right, or straddle the line, you’ve gotta believe that we can do better. -Brandon Flowers
Trump's family can also be seen in the faces of these people. After all, his grandfather immigrated from Germany to escape oppression. His wife is also an immigrant. The hypocrisy is staggering.
Oh look!, another snapchat flittered basic bitch social conformist spouting the most safest and gernic establishment/cooperate talking points as something “inspirational!” And “brave!”... NPC as fuck..
"We dishonor our values, our ancestors and our heritage when we tear gas our brothers and sisters seeking asylum." Yet if you asked the Founding Fathers, they'd say: if it ain't white, it ain't allowed to be a citizen of the United States.
WOW, that's fantastic. I bet Springsteen would have been proud to have written that. So many lines that hit home, but for me it was "People who just want the same things that we do". Yes, that's about the crux of it all really.
From Mexico here. My parents have 5 children. All born in Mexico. Many years ago, they managed to take us all to the United States for a better life. They left first, leaving all their children behind, promising they'd take us with them eventually. That they'll see us again eventually. Little by little, they found the way to bring us with them. Me and my sister were the last to leave. I was just 4 years old. My sister, 7. It was a 3 to 4 day walk to cross the border, not mentioning the trip from where I'm from(Puebla) to the border. I feel this song so much, because my parents had to cross to give us a better life. It was definitely one of the things that changed my life forever.
My grandparents came to this nation legally from Italy in the 1920s. They crossed the ocean by ship. They arrived legally. They were processed legally. How can one be proud to enter the nation illegally? If I went to another country and entered illegally and set out to stay there without following protocol, then when I get caught I deserve to sent away because I am violating their laws. People need to follow the law of the nation they wish to enter. People don't oppose immigration - they oppose illegal immigration - side stepping and dismissing the laws of that nation.
Amazing song! Great message. I've loved The Killers ever since I heard "Mr. Brightside" for the first time in 2003. That song was played all the time on the local radio stations of Puerto Rico and I quickly fell in love with it. It's still my favorite song from The Killers and they are one of my top 5 favorite bands of all-time! We are all humans and we should treat each other with respect. We should respect our differences in culture, languages, religions, looks, etc. At the end, we are all children of God. Peace for the world. ✌ Much love, from Puerto Rico. ❤🇵🇷🌴

Years of listening to this band but this is somehow their best song. It soars in the air, does somersaults, lives, escapes and grows higher. Him and his sisters are the very few that survived.
nope this is true. Yes. But! Some of these countries have horrible politics and living situations. It is life and death for them too. And it can’t wait. I just don’t understand all the hatred against these people. Legally or not, we don’t know their stories. If this was YOU or ME, we’d want to be let in for the sake of a better life. One where our kids won’t be killed, or where I don’t have to work a million hours to feed my kids bread and water. And if people STILL don’t understand this, why not start helping beyond the border. Raise awareness. The people raising millions to build a wall, (citizens) they can raise that to help the people in those country’s. Give them an option.
Mike Simmons my grandma is 93 years old, I’m sure she’s already outlived your hatred covered soul. Good luck making it past your 60s with that bitter heart.
As human beings I always wonder why we seem to hate each other so much and create so much division amongst us. For those of you throwing hate around so freely you don’t have to answer to me or to anyone. None of us knows what lies beyond death. I know life can be dark and not always the best. But what if this is a blessing in disguise and look at how we treat it..look at the world and how WE are the ones destroying it. There’s enough room in this planet for all of us. It is nobody’s land. Is it so wrong to help each other? Just fucking cut it out with all the hate I’m so tired of it...
@Jy Byrd Is prison a big business system? That's surely a fact. Stop watching Ben Shapiro and read some textbooks. The thing about all these conservatives is their ignorance. It's just incredible! They're so ignorant to the point they even think they are right! They´re so ignorant to the point you see them saying all that nonsense and defending a President who's clearly wrong in almost everything! Sometimes I just can't believe it! When people just leave and stop replying to your unintellectual arguments, it´s not because they don't know how to counterargue your premises! It's because you are so wrong and close minded that it´s just unbelievable and sad! It frustrates me, because even if I was in the mood of teaching you guys something, I just can't because you guys are so close minded and defensive!
Project Obscurum Ben Shapiro is a lawyer, and lawyers usually use fallacies in order to convince stupid people like you to believe their ideologies. Most of the things he says are just wrong and false, but they’re embedded in how fast he talks and how “savage” he acts. Folks like you just don’t realize the lies he says, and they rather use him as a source when he’s inaccurate with the claims he gives. Plus, whether he graduated from Harvard, UCLA, or Florida State, it doesn’t make a difference. It just makes him a spoiled rich kid.

Pero hacer un himno a la esperanza en medio de las sacudidas sociales que en pleno 2019 vivimos, habla de su calidad humana, esa que les hace falta a quienes dicen tener Poder. Gracias The Killers.

Do we have to have to put in the ground
Before we just break down and face it:
We got a problem with guns? (Oh-oh-oh-oh)
In the land of the free
Down at the border, they're gonna put up a wall
Concrete and Rebar Steel beams (I'm standing crying)
High enough to keep all those filthy hands off
Of our hopes and our dreams (I'm standing crying)
People who just want the same things we do

Thank you killers for making such an incredible and relatable song.
@Isaac Salema what???
Young Blood thanks
Thank for lyrics i sang the song enjoyed it
This song made me cry from the first couple of lines and then I picked up my two daughters and gave them the biggest hug and I said a prayer of thanksgiving that I was lucky enough to be born in this unbelievably beautiful, stable and orderly country.

It’s not that often that The Killers address a serious issue or problem, but when they do, it is a thing of beauty!

@@wackywally69420 💜
4 years later its just as powerful and urgent a message , yet we as a country still have made little to no progress, too many think everythings fine as it is. I Hope Brandon Flowers continues to shout it from the rooftops, and use his presence on the world stage to try to drive the point home.
Mr. Flowers, You And The Band Have Hit A New High With This Ballad! It's Raw In It's Truth And Beautiful In It's Glory, And I Love It!
Musically this is their best song. hands down. Also production.

A little dramatic
I’m literally crying. I love the killers so much and just that they’re not afraid to say all this knowing that there’s gonna be people who judge them is just so incredible. (I don’t entirely agree with everything in the lyrics but it’s still amazing.)

@@Skinner453 REAL backlash, not just mad comments from randos on the internet.
Now that’s a great teacher 👍

This is heartbreaking. I love you for making this.
Thanks for writing this. You're exactly right.

Calm down,@@GoodGranted

"We dishonor our values, our ancestors and our heritage when we tear gas our brothers and sisters seeking asylum."
Yet if you asked the Founding Fathers, they'd say: if it ain't white, it ain't allowed to be a citizen of the United States.
WOW, that's fantastic. I bet Springsteen would have been proud to have written that. So many lines that hit home, but for me it was "People who just want the same things that we do". Yes, that's about the crux of it all really.
What an emotional beautiful video with a great message. Just makes you appreciative of what you have. I pray that things will get better 😔
#BERNIE2020
What exactly is the great message?
This song touched my heart it is just what America needs to hear
So beautiful. So underrated. So good.
This completely and accurately sums up America right now.

Damn i truly believe brandon flowers is one of the best singers of our generation
Much love, from Puerto Rico. ❤🇵🇷🌴
Well said. Thank You.
What is great massage ??? You go end let any person to live in your own home

People thinking this is The Killers first “political” song have not been paying attention at all.
This song came out two hours ago, who's saying this is there first "political" song?
Woow🙌👏la mejor banda!
Probably the least subtle tho 😂 still a great song 🙌
@@candshoes1890 Read the comments, people are whining its political propaganda.
The kind of people against the message in this song can't stand opinions different from theirs existing.
@@Alice-May I haven't seen one comment that says "this is there first political song"
fantastic. a great song, relevant and passionate lyrics, a touching and gorgeous video. very well done.

Yeah just let um all in. They can stay at your house and you can provide for them.
Go melt it’s bullshit
I don’t love the song from a musical standpoint tbh.
relevant for far left lunatics.
I'm in tears.

my all time favThe Killers
Yo soy de México, quiero darle las gracias a "The Killers" por esta canción que expresa el apoyo a los latinos. Viva México y Latinoamérica.🇲🇽🇭🇳

Funny people are just finding out about this song and The Killers now. Been a fan for years and this song is heartbreaking and true. They're the best!!🎶
A year on this song and video still give me goosebumps
Yes, we all can do better. Thank you The Killers.
I may have cried. Still my favorite band/singer after listening to them, like my whole life.

May God bless our world! The Killers sure bless my world.
Anyone here feel this is the killers back to their early days? I love it, even the intro brings nostalgic feeling
The killers como siempre haciendo buena música. El vídeo muestra un mensaje sobre las situaciones que están pasando..saludos desde mexico🇲🇽
This is the most beautiful/hurtful thing i've whatched
Years of listening to this band but this is somehow their best song. It soars in the air, does somersaults, lives, escapes and grows higher. His voice has a reverberating effecting like Billy Joel, Elton John, the voice of the ages and sages. Glorious yet rooted. Uplifting yet detached. So I say if Kings of Leon has Beautiful War, the killers have land of the free.
This song seems to fit the situation going around right now. Rest In Power George Floyd #BlackLivesMatter ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
I'm using this video in a lesson I'm teaching to my 8th grade students.
all lives matter... or is one more worth than another?
@@slackerbeats I'm not saying that any other lives don't matter. But as for now, black community needed help the most for recent tragedy and oppression towards them that has been going around for God knows how long. Supporting them and help spread the messages are the least we can do.
@@slackerbeats Pretend you are in Holland in 1939 and you see some people protesting the way Jews are being treated. They are chanting, "Jew Lives matter" and you walk over and say, "No, all lives matter." That is what you are saying when you step into a specific situation, a protest where a specific race of people are being targeted. You try to bring the attention away from what is being fought.
It’s hard to listen to it and not cry.
That's why I love "The Killers". Tell 'em!
This song is so powerful and deserves more attention.
Love to My beautiful Mexican people. The Hispanic community and the African American community.. Never let them silence you. We have always been here and we will always be here 💕 stay strong

I just found this video. Been a hardcore Killers fan for the past twenty years. So proud of the guys!
Love from El Salvador, my grandma immigrated from El Salvador back in the 70s. And her kids (my dad) soon joined her, successfully escaping the war.
@Mike Simmons ...and white european settlers fucked up latin america. noone really wants to escape his mothers land. find the root of the problem, solve it and no walls will ever be needed
Jy Byrd grandma, yes. Her kids no, and the US made that exception because they were feeling a war. I don’t think some people understand: SOME PEOPLE DON’T HAVE TIME TO WAIT A MILLION YEARS TO LEGGALY BECOME CITIZENS. They are in danger constantly. All my dads friends are dead now. Him and his sisters are the very few that survived.
S H O W M E Y O U R T R U E F O R M thank you. ❤️
nope this is true. Yes.
>"human nature is compassionate"
>why do we hate each other xd?!?!?!?!
See anything wrong here?
I mean this doesn't really say anything
This song is made from pure compassion and speaks the truth! Thank you!
@@MrPulimen Shapiro graduated from Law School in Harvard. I rather read/ listen to him or Peterson rather than people who do not understand politics.
Very relevant song given what happened yesterday 😢
I've known and been lovin The Killers since their early debut in 2001. And still lovin them now 💓💓

It's a complicated and sad social situation, I see victims but no villains. Brandon and The Killers are a really sensibility and good people. Thank you for the reflection. ❤️🇧🇷
Can I move to Brazil, but not pay taxes, vote in elections (sometimes more than once) work under the table, pop out a bunch of kids (who are now automatically citizens), jump on social programs, go to university on a scholarship based on my struggle of being an illegal alien, drive a car without a license and refuse to speak anything but English and call anyone that questions my presence a racist bigot? 🤔 or is that only a US thing? Let's be real with each other. ❤️🇺🇸
RIP to all the sons and daughters who died in Nashville or in any other terrible school shooting, which keep happening every year because so many Americans don't dare to face it: You got a problem with guns in the land of the free.
