Honestly yea Fr I kept saying to myself “found the blur fan” all thru this doc hahahah. But Noel knew this and said as much himself. Critics are so self important hahaha
Critics are really snidy about Oasis and it’s baffling, they just come across as bitter and jealous. The irony is, Oasis generated more opportunities for critics to make money than any other band of that era and they were one of the best bands of all time
Maybe it's because right from their very first single, Oasis ripped off other bands so blatantly that when you listen to an Oasis album all you can do is hear all the bands they have stolen from. If you look at the album credits half of their songs are credited to other songwriters like T Rex, Gary Glitter etc
Fuck me, did you watch this properly?? They all liked it. You can still criticise stuff you like. Nothing and no one is above criticism. I love a lot of Oasis songs and it is absolutely true they plagiarised so many other people's ideas/music. Even on this album they pinched stuff from John Lennon, REM, Status Quo and sadly GARY GLITTER 🤭
@@chrisytfc879 absolutely rubbish! Nearly thirty years later and the press still doesn't get it. The appeal of the first two albums lies in it the subject matter of the songs, the sound, and the working class background the band came from. They became an icon primarily because they were everything a rock and roll band was supposed to be. Chaotic, driven, dedicated to the craft, and creative. They were popular with average folks because they were relatable. They knew what the day in day out grind life was for working people, and they did everything they could to transcend that and talk about it in their music. That's why it appealed to me as a young man growing up in the states. That's why it appealed to young people everywhere. We were living that life. The reason the media didn't get it because these trust fund jack offs came from upper middle class or solid middle class backgrounds and never had to deal with the minimum wage grind, poverty, and trying to occupy their spare time with something to give their lives purpose. Comfortability builds complacency. They didn't have the possibility of failure meaning that they'd end back up in a working class slum creeping on their backs. The Oasis lads did. They had to make it work, and this possibility of failure is sometimes what drives us to make a successful future or just fall apart. That's why Be Here Now failed to hold up in general sentiment in the ensuing 90's. The band got comfortable and lost the plot. The media on the other hand realized they missed the ball on the first two records and that's why they gave it such amazing reviews even though the public had clearly didn't see it the same way.
Critics hate Oasis because of their working-class origins. If some middle-class nepo baby band had written those songs the critics would say they were 'cleverly re-contextualising the traditional 60s sound into a modern template' - but because they're not that critics pass them off as 'Beatles rip-offs' 😒 (as if loads of other bands haven't based their sound on a combination of lesser-known/appreciated musicians)
John robb is the only one who consistently talks sense along with the guy from the inspiral carpets, no surprise the two who have actually made music themselves appreciate good music rather than slag it off to seem edgy
I will never get why people think "slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball" is a bad lyric, like do people need every lyric to be easily interpreted at face value? I get it, Noel often says even he doesn't know what it means, so people take the piss out of it, but I think its a great lyric.
It is a great lyric Noel says he doesn't know but he does he just doesn't wanna say it. It's about cocaine. Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball, where were you when we were getting high? Cmon now 😆 oasis was doing a shit ton of blow in those days. The song is about him missing a girl he left behind so he can be a Rockstar. Now he's partying enjoying the fruits of his labor but he's still bummed out cause he's misses the girl he gave up for this lifestyle. It's all there.

They are all now really bitter that the band and the album are recognised as cultural giants that penetrated deep bypassing their miserable opinions.
Exactly my thoughts. The 'music critics' here spent the entire documentary calling it an era-defining, anthemic album, yet practically call half of the songs garbage.
Their first two albums are incredible. Everything else sounds muddy and repetitive to me, unfortunately. I always loved their pure, unadulterated rock n' roll attitude, so they get my respect even if I don't love their music!
As an 80s metalhead, I wasn't a fan of Oasis. Now, years later, I can dig them. I especially like to watch their live shows. They were true performers, and I wonder what could have been if they hadn't broken up.
The real irony is oasis we’re working class oiks from the north, and that’s not the the press wanted until they got it. Then they tried to backtrack about it, for me the main irony is that if oasis came around today in our super over sensitive society they’d be even bigger, working class kids from a poor and abused family and make it big, they’d be the biggest band on the planet….. again.
Saying oasis was just luck. Here in Australia I had never heard of DM and just WTSMG came of a vacuum there was no luck just jaw dropping WTF. when I finally heard DM was shocked at how raw it was compared to the 2nd album.
What baffles me is how all the so called experts said it was garbage but the people are the ones who decide and we decided it was a fucking masterpiece
@@stuatagovailoa7536 You're saying they are better than wonderwall, don't look back in anger, some might say, morning glory and champagne fucking supernova?!
I don't get the comparison of "Don't look back in Anger" with "Imagine". To me they are completely different songs, whatever analogy these "critics" my say.
They're all having a pop at: Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball But its only like: It's been a hard days night and ive been working like a dog. And that band didn't do too badly.😊
Morning Glory should have been a double album or released in two parts, including the B-sides. Obviously they were released on the Masterplan album but that was 3 years too late. I understand why songs like the Masterplan, talk tonight and Half the world away weren’t on the album. They’re good enough but didn’t really fit. So a double album with two different vibes would have been perfect
Oasis wrote/preformed music that touched the soul, which none of these artsy fartsy critics have.. What a bunch of pretentious bores. Plus Liam/Noel were equally hilarious and dangerous. while straight up genuine.
Agreed. I'm a quarter way through the doc and it just dawned on me I have idea what the names of the critics are and that I'll never remember because they absolutely don't matter
There were three, arguably, amazing rock albums of the 90's .... Nevermind, Ok Computer and Morning Glory..... But Morning Glory meant the most to so many people cos it was actually a celebratory positive record stacked full of fun, confidence, sensitivity and joy and was the perfect album for teenager at the time getting into music. Oasis were so famous, successful and had the tunes to back it all up and that's why so many kids are digging the band now after all these years cos there simply isn't anything like it now, as Bonehead recently said 'there sadly won't be anything like a band like Oasis again, not with such impact and appeal'.
6:10 ish "...flannel n stupid goatee beards", he says with a straight face, while choosing to appear dressed and styled as he did on a damn documentary LOL "What kind of look are you going for?" "Just give me 'confused British cowboy wannabe who just woke from a long sleep and couldn't find his hat' if you would, good sir." LOL \m/
"Be here Now" is both my brother's and I favorite Oasis album. People shitting on it because the culture changed and they simply don't listen to music objectively. They follow fads and news headlines. Its dumb. I bet they also think [insert newest best thing] is lifechangingly good too....until the girl they fancy doesn't think so so it isn't. We have been fans since Morning Glory release and were deep into masterplan and definitely maybe by the time we heard Be here now. Sheeple
Name a band since who could play a B side in any bar/pub in the country and well over half the people in there would know every word 🤷🤷, its just overeducated middleclass critics who cant accept they were a great band and for that matter probably the last great band we'll ever see with the way the world is now, deal with it they were brilliant and the masses flocked to them which is in the end more important than any critics opinion 🤷
We were waiting for our own band we could get behind....a working class band who were cool and represented us amd had the songs.....should have been The Roses but they fked up their second album
Oasis were continually beaten down by the critics because they “ripped off” so many of their musical heroes. But yet if it was so easy to do then why hasn’t anybody done it like them since? Oh there’s been the odd band/solo artist that will try but Oasis had something that they don’t . It’s an intangible thing that all the great acts had. The dichotomy of the Gallagher Bros would be the main thing but they just connected with so many people. The songs and the whole cult around the Gallaghers. The British music press have always been mainly middle class, university educated and they absolutely hate people like Oasis somehow reaching to the masses while their niche, outlier artists remain unheard. Being popular isn’t a bad thing, especially if you stick to your guns like Oasis did. They’ve been a massive influence on my own music and many others. The fact that they’ve never really changed can be viewed as laziness by some or honesty by others.
Oasis moaning about their fans becoming hooligans and violent at their gigs is dumb on their part. At the time there wasn't a week that went by that we didn't read about Liam getting into a fight or some kind violence within their band. Is it any surprise they started to attract thugs to their music? Really?
Never ever listen to so called critics i mean apart from Robb they are all total helmets. Just look at the state of them and then listen to wtf comes out their mouths
Some proper helmets on this. The chubby Australian and the sausage in the flat cap ought to have had the day off. Also, I love the Dodgy lads, but Nigel casting a disparaging eye over NG’s plagiaristic tendencies was a bit much in light of the similarities between Dodgy’s “In A Room” and The Who’s b-side “Dogs”.
Columbia was written by several people . Noel wrote one line of lyrics is all his input was on that. The Real People had the songs and sculpted Oasis and without them they wouldnt have gotten anywhere
@46:16 They never played Hey Now live... that just shows you how out of touch and meaningless these so called critics are. They don't even have basic knowledge of the material they are supposed to be appraising. Embarrassing

So, this is one of the greatest records ever, but every song is shite? Am I missing something
Really ? EVERY song ?
@@bigdaddy4069 I was meaning that they managed to find a way of criticizing practically every track on the record while still proclaiming it one of the era's finest. Definitely maybe some mixed messages here
These guys all hated oasis and wrote them off at the time. They looked down on them as thikko yobs because all journalists ever do is size up other people’s intellect as a way of reaffirming their standing in life.
They are all now really bitter that the band and the album are recognised as cultural giants that penetrated deep bypassing their miserable opinions.
@@cabcitychelmsfordtaxi1584 I'm pretty sure not everyone in this film did that.
Don't believe the truth is a quality album
Noel, we love you…and Liam, too, in fact, the whole lot of you blokes
As an 80s metalhead, I wasn't a fan of Oasis. Now, years later, I can dig them. I especially like to watch their live shows. They were true performers, and I wonder what could have been if they hadn't broken up.
You missed it all then because they were amazing for years before they split up
Live by the sea - there and then DVDs
Such a British docco: a "classic" album but the critics all agree, each song is shit
They don't. The baldy and the blind guy are the two sore thumbs
Definitely Maybe is the definitive Oasis album.
Nah, Morning Glory is better in virtually every single way.
@@MidosujiSen I agree, but Definitely Maybe had ‘Supersonic’ ‘Rock and Roll Star’ and ‘Live Forever’ all of which beat any song on WTSMG in my opinion
@@stuatagovailoa7536 You're saying they are better than wonderwall, don't look back in anger, some might say, morning glory and champagne fucking supernova?!
@@maximkraus8181 yes, Supersonic is the best Oasis song for me
@@stuatagovailoa7536 I love Supersonic but it isn't even the best song Definitely Maybe.
I don't get the comparison of "Don't look back in Anger" with "Imagine". To me they are completely different songs, whatever analogy these "critics" my say.
Right Marlene, that’s how it is now. “Critics” and “journalists” all nonsense, you stay as wrong as you want to be.
Best band in the world !!!
They're all having a pop at:
Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball
But its only like:
It's been a hard days night and ive been working like a dog.
The class hatred in this video is amazing
Does anyone in this video actually like the album?
Apart from Jon Robb.
@@jacobreynolds6181 Clint Boon too. Him and Robb were the only non-wankers
D’you know what I mean is a fucking great tune
Sheeple
Their first album was just as good as what’s the story morning glory
Name a band since who could play a B side in any bar/pub in the country and well over half the people in there would know every word 🤷🤷, its just overeducated middleclass critics who cant accept they were a great band and for that matter probably the last great band we'll ever see with the way the world is now, deal with it they were brilliant and the masses flocked to them which is in the end more important than any critics opinion 🤷
Oasis were massive...they were the 90s
We were waiting for our own band we could get behind....a working class band who were cool and represented us amd had the songs.....should have been The Roses but they fked up their second album
I loved hey now
Oasis were continually beaten down by the critics because they “ripped off” so many of their musical heroes.
The Aussie guy hasn't got a clue. "Hey now was rocking live". The never played it live ever FFS
Would you think that would get people that actually like the record and the songs
Man this one dude really hates oasis. Why is he on this lol
I'd love to know what these critics think is 'good music'
Oasis moaning about their fans becoming hooligans and violent at their gigs is dumb on their part. At the time there wasn't a week that went by that we didn't read about Liam getting into a fight or some kind violence within their band. Is it any surprise they started to attract thugs to their music? Really?
Never ever listen to so called critics i mean apart from Robb they are all total helmets. Just look at the state of them and then listen to wtf comes out their mouths
Oasis #1 baby
Noel wrote that album based on a year in his life very clever 👏. What he should do though is give The Real People their credit for helping them.
I can't stand stand music journalists! Always looking for some meaning to the music! Sometimes it just is what it is!
The Cranberries are not British. They come from Limerick Ireland hence they are Irish 1:08:12
Blatant steal off R.E.M The One I love though
I Fekkin despise critic's in any way... Shape or form.. Period!!!!
I hate know it all’s like Paolo Hewitt who assumes he knows everything about weller, Oasis, mods etc can’t stand the bellend
Liam so cool
Roll with it is a modified Oasis-esque version of You can't do that of the Beatles
Lennon didn't own C and F chords. Noel stole a lot, but the intro to Don't Look Back in Anger is fine.
It's not even played with the same voicings and has a guitar in it. Imagine doesn't. People are desparate to slag oasis
The Beatles stole from Blues as did the Stones as did Led Zeppelin so it's swings and roundabouts
Oasis, thank you!!
Definitely Maybe is a better album
Columbia was written by several people . Noel wrote one line of lyrics is all his input was on that. The Real People had the songs and sculpted Oasis and without them they wouldnt have gotten anywhere
Mark Beaumont NME remind me of Masaki Okada
There were a lot of dumb takes in this but Country House being the worst thing Blur released is the dumbest one.
THE MARSTER PLAN OOOOOO
How is this even available or put together a a docu to watch? It's awful!!
@46:16 They never played Hey Now live... that just shows you how out of touch and meaningless these so called critics are. They don't even have basic knowledge of the material they are supposed to be appraising. Embarrassing
Theres only so many times you can re-write Octopus's Garden.
Takes major talent to write songs like Ringo..😊🎵
Noel: I write songs for me, no one else....emmm. Did he belong to a 'Band' or was it a solo act? 🤔
In 30 years or two years from now...fk im old
love them
I can think of worse criticism than - " f♤ck me you sound like the Beatles"
aren't musos "fidgety"?😉
Absolute losers slagging off Roll With It in an attempt to make themselves sound smart for disliking a classic.
Guy says the lyrics are meaningless, it just shows he completely missed the point and can’t recognize genius when it’s right in front of him.
Most of these critics are so out of touch. No wonder they're all looking for a job at the moment.
The Australian guy is clueless
Nah he knows his onions. Why else would he be on here? Think about it…..thiiiink aboooout iiiit
My god, the Johnny cash shirt wearing, Scruff haired, guy with the glasses needs a slap... 😅😅. Side note, the part about she's electric didn't mention "with a little help from my friends".. gutted as a major oasis and Beatles fan.
Personally I think john lennons most famous song , the time sounds familiar to the 1965 release of “that’s my life” by one Freddie lennon , Johns father.
I’m also amazed ed Sherman got away with stealing Marvin gayes song !

Just who is that Aussie dweeb ? He knows nothing about great music, he's just trying to be controversial. What a tool, Oasis rule !!!!!!
I thought he made some good points to be honest. Very knowledgeable too.
@@SiLatics56 oh definitely very knowledgeable 🤣 Stated how much better 'Hey Now' sounded live, despite the fact it was never ever performed live.
@@garymck5181 Apart from that though yeah he was bang on.
In my city,in wyoming USA I requested Oasis on the rock station...the DJ (who has been one for decades) said "We don't play new stuff"....dude it was 2010.
They still don't play Oasis
I don't know, they were pretty annoying really. For headbutt'n soccer hooligans weren't they?
Still talking about them thirty years later and both still making new music. we need more hooligans
I enjoyed this documentary until some lad called an Irish band British. At it as usual.
You should be more worried about being totally replaced by the third world mate
Oasis are real like street music.
What a load of bollocks.
'Roll with it' ....crap
2025 🎉
The Leftys getting ripped to the Best band .In the 90s ffs
They canny help them selfs
Still hatting on the working class eh?
