  • In this episode you'll see some clips of the build process and some running footage of the new winch I have built for my RC4WD Trailfinder 2. I'm very happy with how it turned out and how well it seems to be working, I can't wait to get it out on the trails! Thanks for watching!

    I like the utilitarian look of the winch. Some guy way back in 2012 made a custom winch that resembled the warn 8274 winch, Its called QuickSand winch. Not available now, it was suited for 1/8 scale. i would love to have it. I have the RC4WD warn 8274 and the ox SSD winch

      I appreciate it! I may have seen that back in the day as well. Those winches are very powerful.

    Ok Ethan that is some sweet work making the parts I love seeing that. And you have it running so smooth one of the best I have seen.

    • @ExtremeRC4x4
      @ExtremeRC4x4  6 лет назад

      Troi Woytenko Thank you! It definitely seems to be working smoothly for what it is. I thought I was going to need something stronger but so far it seems to be doing good for how heavy this truck is.

    Nice build and you are lucky to have access to that equipment. But one thing when tapping a hole every so often turn the tap back half a turn for a better thread.

    • @ExtremeRC4x4
      @ExtremeRC4x4  6 лет назад

      Thank you! I'm very grateful to have access to the tools I do, I couldn't do most of my projects without them. I ended up braking that tap later on so that piece just became scrap as it was easier just to machine another. On the new piece I used cutting oil and backed out much more often than the one seen in the video. The treads came out very nice after I tried that.

      Ethan Boening do u ever make parts for people? I don’t have the machines or tools anymore or I could do my own thing n I can’t buy the stuff I need cus I was hurt last year n became paraplegic n in a wheelchair so it would be hard to run the saws n drill presses, so I was just wondering if u ever do make stuff for people? Lmk brotha

    • @ExtremeRC4x4
      @ExtremeRC4x4  6 лет назад +1

      Steve, I have never made parts for people but I have thought about it. If someone asked me to make a part that I've already made, such as the winch mount in this video, I would be willing however I don't exactly have the process down to a science so currently I wouldn't be able to ensure that it would be the same quality that some of the larger companies could provide. If someone wanted me to make something that I have never made before it might be more difficult but most likely do able. Thanks for the question!

      Troi Woytenko Haha, you’ve got and scx10 right? I’ll have to look into making a winch for that Chassis sometime. Glad you like it!

      Well when you do I will be your tester LOL. Soon I will be getting a RC4WD TF2 MC aswell and I like how you set it up and still have a lot of room under the hood.

    • @ExtremeRC4x4
      @ExtremeRC4x4  6 лет назад

      I'll keep you updated! If I decide to produce these I'll need to find out where to source some of the parts like the spool or even have to change the design if I can't find specific parts. I hope you like your marlin crawler, I love my TF2. It's quite different than most of the other scale truck out there on the market.

    I know it's an old video but did you ever get the chance to see how much it deadlifts?
    Or do you still have it?
    Most my winches are servo winches....I've used KMS, RC4WD and currently just got a Reefs.
    For winch controlers I've use to use HeyOK but recently I really like using a Hobbywing 1060...it's more "immediate" whereas the normal winch controlers have a split second delay.

    • @ExtremeRC4x4
      @ExtremeRC4x4  4 года назад +1

      Tom Lucas I have not tested that. I actually still use it on my TF2. It should be the same as what an RC4WD bulldog winch will lift as I just used those internals to build this one. It’s definitely not as strong as a Servo winch by far but sometimes just that little extra tug helps pull the truck through the tough obstacles.

    Lost the screws and broke the casing.... with your skills you could just make a screw and a casing. Great work.. what was the soldering or braising or welding for? (whatever you call it)

    • @ExtremeRC4x4
      @ExtremeRC4x4  6 лет назад

      Haha, thank you! I guess if I was going to do it why not make it completely unique! I usually refer to it as brazing and in that clip I was brazing together two blocks of aluminum that hold the motor gearbox. I had to make two pieces because I didn't have material thick enough to secure the entire gearbox. I also had to braze those pieces to the mounting plate as well as the mount for the bushing because our cnc machine only works on two dimensions.

    • @ExtremeRC4x4
      @ExtremeRC4x4  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you! I wish I could pull this bumper in closer but it looks like I'll have to buy one or make my own that will offer better clearance in the future. We use an X-carve by inventables. It has proven to offer quite a learning experience for me.
