nice setup. I went with a different brand and did have to solder and kinda wish I had not had to. Maybe a upgrade it in need. Having a winch changes the game.
The only thing I would add is that you may want to check (listen) for which direction is forward for the winch motor and wind the spool in the direction that uses forward when winching in. This way you get the most power the servo has available. Very nice idea to have everything all in one package, I'm tempted to try one even though I dont have a need for one.
@@scalebuildersguild a brushed motor spins faster going forward compared to reverse thats all I was after (not sure about brushless) I should have worded that different. I ran a winch in reverse for a year or more and finally realized it and swapped directions, I wasnt a huge improvement but it was an improvement.
@@humboldtef Ah gotcha, yes, if you're talking about adjusting the timing, then yes, depending on how it's setup, you can get more power out of one direction. I'm no expert on that though, and not sure it applies to a servo winch.
@@scalebuildersguild I think almost all servos use fixed timing motors. The difference in speed is in the speed controller for the servo winch and the number of Mosfets that are used for each direction. Reverse usually gets less mosfets (than forward) resulting in a slightly slower speed. I'll just finish by saying I believe thats correct but I could be wrong.
Good video. I just made my own from a spare servo I had laying around..pretty simple to do. Bought the same spool, line and hook on eBay for a few bucks.
I recently picked up a Flysky FS-GT5 because it has 6 channels and a gyro built into the receiver. The quality of this radio is really really good! Lol, I been needing for about a year for this remote programming video, been found a similar vid on RC Girls page for axialfest, but that's a damn strong winch, might have to pick one up for a upcoming class 3 rig I'll be building
You took the easy way out. What I'm saying, let's see you mount this in a rig that doesn't have a pre-built space for a winch. I'd like to see you put it in something challenging (without a space pre-built for mounting)... Honcho, TRX4 Sport.
Do you ever use Spektrum air receivers with your radio? They are so much cheaper than the ground receivers but not too sure if they bind and work okay. I just got my Rugged and am looking for receivers for my other trucks.

I've used quiet a few bumper mounted winches and the servo type is almost always more powerful because they can use a larger motor. I think the reefs also beats RC4WD's price when you factor in having to buy a separate winch controller. IMHO the only reason to use a bumper mount winch is for scale, they're inferior in every other aspect.
