I think both N54 and B58 owners can agree this is a great comparison and you can’t go wrong with either platform 😊 One is more reliable/newer, other has no competition for price/performance
Good stuff. I've starting to lose interest in my E60 535i N54 bc my GEN3 Tacoma.. Car sat almost a year now chasing a MIXTURE CONTROL1 & 2 and blaming upstream O2 sensors or cracked VC. The VC replacement is a cheaper and easier access and already have. Gonna walnut blast and had bought phenolic spacer. Turbos upgraded to Dynamic Autowerx 775RS and have proven reliable 3yrs now. Full polyurethane upgrade on have proven better than coilovers. I've literally re-engineered the PCV system adding high and low oil cans and still keeping it closed loop. Not Vargas cans either. Still on stock fuel set up and looking to upgrade but haven't decided which route to take. A few more options today vs 3-4yrs ago. Keep up the great videos! And Thanks for the motivation!!!
N54 is a solid engine...with a bunch of weak and EXPENSIVE plastic and rubber parts all around it😮💨. An 07 335i with a B58 swap would be an interesting build
Osama - We couldn't agree more. Would definitely be an interesting build! It would be a very complex and expensive project that would require a lot of custom fabrication and modification.
@@8020Media A true 1 of 1!! Everyone does K20 and LS swaps, I wanna see something original but still true to the brand. If I had deep pockets I'd take a 2023 M3 Competition and swap the engine out for the M5 Competition's 4.4l. The modern 3 Series back with a V8 again now with factory twin turbos🐌🐌🤌🏾
The N54 actually was used until 2016 in the Z4 35is and came with 340HP stock 👍🏻 Those Injectors are a pain in the ass though, had 2x Index 12 fail within a year and BMW doesn't care because I installed them myself...
That's correct - might have not mentioned that in the video since the Z4 35is is a bit more rare! But the injectors definitely are, and the price of them is ridiculous...
Seems like they both have the similar issues just that the b58 is newer. At the end of the they, if you’re modifying your car, things break. Use it as an opportunity to upgrade. If it’s too expensive, buy a Chevy or Honda.
What's the difference between N54 N55, B58 And S58 aren't they all 3.0l inline 6 motors like what's the main difference between the 4 ? Just the platforms?
Would you recommend the BMW F30 340i in line or long road reliability because I | Toyota owner I want to change to a BMW F30 3401. Is it as reliable as Toyota or not, and what is your advice regarding the reliability of the car? Because my hobby is that I searched for Lexus for permanent purchase and BMW for rent Do you recommend it for heavy and daily use, and which is better in reliability, the Toyota Camry V6 or the B58 engine?
Mohamed - it is a BMW and aside from a 340i costing a lot more to purchase than a Camry, the engine (B58) is also going to be a good bit more expensive to maintain. Oil changes aren't $20 on a BMW like they are a Camry and when something does go wrong it usually ends up being pretty expensive. Don't expect a B58 to last to 200k+ miles like a Camry will with minimum maintenance.
@@8020Media So what are the required maintenance so that the car does not break down? B58 Change oil and fuel? Can it withstand a distance of more than 200,000 miles?
@@8020Media that would be awesome as i have an g82 m4 comp with e50 dps making 700wheelish. Sometimes i get scared to drive it because I’m unsure of how reliable they are although many say they are. Some insight would give me a lot more comfort!
i think we need a real test besides just talking about it and reading off a piece of paper, you forgot about the smaller and more complicated parts for the b58, even electrically
i have both cars and n54 more reliable for me and faster then my b58 i feel like people just hype up the car a lot cause it looks newer lol when they dont even have one or even moded one yet. so I've experienced both worlds and n54 takes it all the way.

Yessir, i would love to see a b58 e9x or even a s58 e9x
@Osamabeenleanin210 there's actually an f82 m4 with a s63 swap video on YT and G power has a F87 M2 with a s63 as well

We have a lot of B58 content on our BMW Tuning website, but think this post may be the most beneficial for you: bmwtuning.co/bmw-b58-faq/

B - We completely disagree. Are we talking stock engines? The B58 is miles ahead the N54 when it comes to reliability.
