hi level one rock
"It hits them like a ton a' bricks"
- so says a literal rock.
i think a possible example of the one where the "Don't Mention It At All" one would be Pink Floyd's The Trial
the song doesn't use the title for the lyrics, the title is the lyrics
you're hearing the trial for someone who was caught showing emotions
I think Queen has some of the best name-dropping songs of all time, how perfectly interwoven their titles are into the songs, such as Don’t Stop Me Now or Killer Queen
No need for a girlfriend, I have rock. Thank you for the video lvl 1 rock!
Huey by earl sweatshirt is one of the best and most subtle repeats I've ever heard and it works so well. I also like his subtle half-mention in cold summers "the boy been gone a few summers too long".
cold summers, don’t tussle with strangers some of those keep one in the chamber!
this is such an interesting thing to me because i usually dont even title my songs until im done writing them, and its usually a struggle to choose a good title
also- fuck yeah girl in red mention
It’s so cool seeing you grow your videos are great!
this video is so good and you just appeared in my recommended . Very good work my dude
Stupendiums No One's Home has 2 title drops in the chorus with different meanings
This is going to be my new underrated yt channel to watch. Good stuff man
I think Brockhampton in STAR work around using the title quite well. Not only is the first 3/4's of the song making examples of celebrities and the roles or moments that people remember them by, they tie that into their upcoming into becoming semi popular when SAT I dropped in 2017 in the last part of the song.
like the best song that uses the spam repeat is are we still friends, its just the way tyler says it every time hits different
I think the "don't mention it at all" category applies to a lot of modern emo, pop-punk, and post emo bands. Hot Mulligan, for example, has a lot of songs where the title doesn't really come into play in their songs at all and is usually some sort of absurdist title that loosely fits towards the message of the song itself. Great analysis on song titles though, I found it quite interesting
Really needed a Panic! At the Disco name drop for the "never saying the title" and the Fever you Cant Sweat Out Album
love the ROCK TALK!!!
freaks and geeks by donald glover, he does a "big one punch". Nice video btw looking forward to the next one
I have no idea how I got here but I’m so glad I did
My man dropped a Zack fox song, subbed
Oh shit and MF DOOM double subbed
this shit is defo the most interesting video ive watched all week
The one punch in Against the Kitchen Floor by Will Wood is my favorite. He has a great way of using recognizable phrases and idioms in interesting ways. Just seeing the title, its hard to guess the actual context of the sentence where its said.
3:50 DUDE THANK YOU
The lack of acknowledgment of Song Titles (That Look Like This) makes this video seem incomplete.
CHAINSAW PARTY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
amazing video, but not mentioning Weatherday is crazy
as easy as an answer it is to point to i will always love the title drop on "in the aeroplane over the sea". i guess it's not a perfect title drop but i feel like it'd be weird to consider it a half-mention
Man you gotta start making these 8 minutes long😭😭
Theres one song I do like and think its a subtle repeat or a creative weave which is "Nobodys Clown" Ima somewhat contrast to "I love you, I hate you" but not really at the same time. Plus your smarter than I am. Which btw a ROCK.
bro i just love your video
Dude he said "When the song says its own name"
Just subbed. You have a lot of personality in your videos. 😌 Going to binge your stuff now!
AJR does this really, really well in their songs
The fact you didn't mention Around the World made me sad haha
That being said, the best name drop(s) in my opinion are from an Australian rapper named Seth Sentry.
In the first song of his second album he name drops/references every track that's coming up on the album within the following verse;
Track list:
1.How Are You
2.Run
3.Nobody Like Me
4.Dumb
5.Hell Boy
6.Fake Champagne
7.Rooftop Hooligans
8.Hate Love
9.Violin
10.Pripyat, Pt. 1
11.Pripyat, Pt. 2
12.1969
13.Sorry
Verse:
"So how am I?(Track 1) Marvellous
I'm glad you interrupted me to ask me this
Nah I've been a motherfucking basketcase
I hate love(8), I'm done with it, I'll never break a heart again
I'm sorry(13)
I'm worried that I'm dumb(4) and no-one's told me yet
Drugs and drunkenness, I've gone little Hunter S
Sitting on my rooftop(7) long after the sun has set
Bits of moon scattered like some trinkets in the darkness (references track 12 subject matter)
There just ain't nobody like me(3 this one is just, ugh, chef's kiss) and I feel like I just can't connect
So I just wanna run away(2) just like my fucking father did(references 9's subject matter)
Or slip inside my head to find the city where nobody lives (10 &11)
No friendly charlatans, no bitter glass of fake champagne(6)
To gargle, rinse, and spit back at those two-face little Harvey Dents
That smell of sulfur every time a rapper gets it in their head
That they are dope as hell boy(5), I am unconvinced
But I digress, how am I? Fine I guess
If you wanted me to answer fine then why the fuck you askin' then?"
It's a pretty good album, but this verse in the first song is so amazing cause you have no idea what he's doing until your second or third listen through of the whole album
typing the things in the comment box for algorithm and more good videos
Good vid 👍
more pls
ok I made another
Also want to point out the tendency for some hardcore bands to use their name as a song title AND lyric - case in point:
Culture Shock (also the album title) ruclips.net/video/5Slqv8W6SXY/видео.html
first
pi’erre bourne uses the don’t mention it at all a lot
Tupac: "F*ck The World."
I love "This Fire" by Franz Ferdinand the song itself is amazing but in the Cyberpunk OP they cut the words "This city" from the original lyric "This fire is out of control I'm going to burn (𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚌𝚒𝚝𝚢)" Because in the world of Cyberpunk, the city burns you.
