As indonesian, No doubt Singapore its Clean, Developed, and so modern Definition of world class country, for me Singapore its almost perfect, even though i'm not of Singaporean but i'm proud of you guys,You are so creative and hardworking people, Majulah Singapura 🇸🇬♥️

I am a Singaporean, I support death penalty and cane punishment,
It has its purpose.
What some people advocate is abolishment of 'MANDATORY Death Sentence', not the death sentence in totality. Big difference. Lots of people misunderstand that there will be no death sentences once the mandatory death sentence is abolished. For example, for now, if someone was found guilty of trafficking above 15g of narcotics, he or she will receive the one and only form of punishment, that is, death. If there is no mandatory death sentence, the judge can decide to sentence the guilty to either death or a lesser punishment depending on the circumstances, a choice that the judge didn't have previously.

A Mandatory Death Sentence takes away such heavy responsibility from a judge, who although paid very well, is still a human who has feelings. Having to make such sentencing will cause them enormous stress. The stress will lead to bias in leaning on either more lenient or harsher side of the punishment than a case might deserves. Not only is this unfair to either the plaintiff or accused, but will also cause a major drop of public confidence in our judicial system.
Mandatory Death Sentence take the stress away from the judges, so that they can focus, without bias on judging the case based on evidences, giving both sides the equality, fairness and justice it deserved.

我也赞成你二叔的看法. 严刑峻法是必须的,再加上有效的执行, 迅速判决和公正的司法就能有效压制犯罪. 可是政府必须解决人民的生活问题,不然民不聊生, 逼上绝路, 必会挺而走险.
新加坡政府都把这些生活大小事处理的很好👍🏻. 居者有其屋的政策也贯彻到底, 让年轻人不必担心住的问题.
新加坡人民也有非常高的受教育水平(literacy) 以及网络媒体的自由评论,但必须是有负责任的批评. 这也形成对未来新加坡政府的监督与平衡(check and balance)以确保未来的政府有效和公平的执行任务.
李光耀国父所做的这一切, 才有今天的新加坡. 身为一名新加坡人, 我非常的感恩, 有如此好的领导, 打下如此坚固的基础.
我的儿女们多年在国外工作, 我告诉他们绝对不能放弃新加坡的公民权.这个家虽然小,它可是很坚固, 也很扎实, 是我们可靠的避风港.

有时，我从社交媒体上发现一些年轻人的思维是有毒(toxic) 和消极(negative). 现在我知道原因了,那是因为他们的长辈所导致, 就如俗话所说..”上梁不正,下梁歪”. 😂

I agreed totally with your uncle - I m a born breed 2nd Gen Singaporean.
1. Caning is legendary n to preserve. Singaporean law allows caning to be ordered for over 35 offences, including hostage-taking/kidnapping, robbery, gang robbery with murder, rioting, causing grievous hurt, drug abuse, vandalism, extortion, voyeurism, sexual abuse, molestation (outrage of modesty),and unlawful possession of weapons. Caning is also a mandatory punishment for certain offences such as rape, drug trafficking, illegal moneylending,and for foreigners who overstay by more than 90 days - a measure designed to deter illegal immigrants.
2. Death Penalty only applied to the most serious crimes in Singapore - crimes which cause grave harm to life and to society such as murder, using or attempting to use arms to commit particular offences, terrorist bombing, and trafficking in or importing/exporting large quantities of drugs - and has been effective in deterring these crimes. The death penalty serves the larger interests of Singapore society by ensuring our people’s fundamental human right to safety and security.
= do note Singapore Laws is no Play Play Business. Respect the Laws of Singapore Land, generally you are so much better protected against many social ills.

Note the difference between 'mandatory death sentence' and just 'death sentence'. The abolishment of the former doesn't mean there will no longer be any death penalty.

Singapore is located very close to the golden triangle, a major source of opium. IMHO..one of the main purpose of having the death penalty is to discourage drug trafficking. Opiate addition can destroy a whole nation if left uncontrolled.
That is why.
The Golden Triangle is the area in which the borders of China, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. I don't think we are near at all. The penalty for drug trafficking needs to be serious not just into bringing drugs to the country. Go to prisons and the homes of families whose lives are destroyed by drugs. It is not just the drug traffickers' problem, it can affect immediate and generations of children and families.

LKY is what made Singapore what it is today. This is true. However looking back at history of the region, we should also know that Singapore had always been a trading post for maritime trade route. The British did create this trade post back then. Later on, LKY spearheaded to take Singapore further on - he was a very wise, smart and far sighted man. Schooled as a lawyer in Britain, he straddled both Asian and western train of thought, and application. Some say he was indeed an Anglophile. But also very asian. For people who grew up in Singapore and Hong Kong, they had the best of both worlds (asian and western). While LKY played a very huge role in shape Singapore into what it is today, we must also understand this was not done so in a vacuum. Looking at the larger picture, geopolitically, Singapore did benefit a lot from trade with the USA etc. They kept the sea lanes safe from terrorism, piracy and so on. One needs to study these things bit by bit. The issue I think is that with many PRC people, they only know about LKY and that is all. Like I said, he was great, but surely he did not operate in a vaccum, resulting in Singapore’s prosperity. Locally though, yes that was all him. :-)

有时候我真的搞不懂，有很多新加坡人不了解李光耀先生的治国政策。一直埋怨为什么新加坡接受那么多外来者，可是他们忘了，要栽培新一代从他出生到成长到能够贡献给这个国家是需要大概25年的时间，而引入外国精英却能够立刻给这个国家带来贡献，那是最直接快速的让新加坡持续快速发展的方法。况且新加坡的出生率低，假如不引进外国精英，新加坡早就没了。有一位这么有智慧和远见的领导，把新加坡的经济搞得这么好，让你们享受所有的安全，医疗和学习机会，还一直的抱怨，真是生在福中不知福啊！
重点是同化新客，主客有別，客随主便，融入新加坡国族文化

李光耀当年最大的贡献就是坚持西方行政制度，以英语为各民族的语言，对所有民族都公平，建立了和谐的环境。由于英语的工作环境，稳定的政策和透明的法制，也获得了欧美日的投资。
所有拜托中国人移民新加坡最好不要把新加坡当成是华人国家，新加坡是移民国家，不是华人国家。还有学好你们的英语英文，融入新加坡，不要移民新加坡爱党国。
鞭刑和死刑是一种阻吓有效的作用

死刑和鞭刑是因为李光耀知道并见过毒品对社会所造成的伤害。因为在英国殖民统治时，为了利益引进了鸦片，这也导致当时的华工陷入一个死循环，永远都不能为自己赎身。他不希望新加坡会有那么一天，所以多数新加坡人是自持的。

我有一次经验。到了澳洲搭出租车。司机（口音像东欧人）问我哪国人。一提到新加坡他说你们总理太聪明。严刑峻法是防止或避免人家犯罪，而不是犯了罪后再探索怎么解决问题。
