Have you ever been betrayed by a friend or family member? Anyone who was spied on during Albania’s Communist dictatorship can now access their formerly classified files to find out who reported on their activities. For some, the opening-up marks a moment of overdue reckoning, a sign that Albania is finally atoning for the sins of its past. For others, the release of the files has been unbearably painful because, as it turns out, many were spied on by those they trusted.
