    Being a S1 fanboy for more than a decade, the best thing about the 6.6 "new virtual instrument" deception by FenderSonus, is that it caused me to finally look closely at other DAWs . I've had more fun with Ableton Live 12 in the last week than I've had with Studio One in the last 5 years. I just wish I had done it years ago. S1 has its place on my utility desk, just not in my creative studio. Thanks FenderSonus.

    Whoever thought it would be smart to charge customers for a version upgrade and then not include what we paid to develop within the upgrade is slimy af. Do I care about this synth over the other billion I have that are better? No. But this is the first slimy move, I guess you guys didn’t see Bitwig screw up in a similar way, they heard community feedback and outrage and reversed this kind of decision, hope presonus do too, sets a horrendous precedent and makes me unsure about this DAW iv loved so much for years now.

    As a perpetual V6 Pro license holder, I can't get this VI, but that doesn't bother me, as I have many 3rd party synths that cover similar ground. Also, I don't begrudge PreSonus the option of making the subscription more attractive by making some content exclusive. I would have been upset if they had done that with the recent Vocoder and improved EQ, but not enough to dump Studio One, as others feel compelled to do, on principle that PreSonus betrayed them.
    The point for me is that all of the perpetual gets new core features (i.e., not plugins and sample content, etc.) for an optional $150 for the upgrade every few years or so vs. $180 every year for the subscription. I own Apple Logic with its free updates, but I prefer S1 enough to pay for the upgrades.

    Damn. Just when I got so comfortable with S6. I need to learn Ableton now. The upgrade to 12 was amazing and remained customer focused. It’s difficult to keep supporting a company that is trying really hard to push everyone towards subscription.
    So now if I pay for a year under the Hybrid plan, I will receive a perpetual license? And it’s slightly cheaper than the usual plan. What gives?

    • @studioonetutorials
      @studioonetutorials  3 месяца назад +2

      @grungefire 3 месяца назад

      @@studioonetutorialsSorry that was just a spew of words from the top of my mind, in the moment.
      What I meant was, DAW upgrades are important to paying customers, perpetual licenses and subscriptions. We all pay knowing that we’re in that version’s ecosystem duration. Subscriptions work a little differently though in that you just keep paying and you just keep using.
      Having an upgrade tied to just subscriptions, while still being a version upgrade which all perpetual license owners paid for when we bought version 6 is not a good thing or a precedent. Which means, do I want to keep supporting a company that does something like this? Or should I move towards Ableton, where it’s more customer centric.
      What is Presonus doing? Now they have a new subscription tier. The Hybrid tier, where you pay annually and own a perpetual license. Just like buying a perpetual license outright but it’s called a subscription because you get everything else as well within the entire ecosystem. Is this a good thing? Yes. But they should have done this when version 7 comes out and not now. Would any perpetual license owners want to get this now? No. IMHO. But the way they are paving the future of the company seems a little rushed and not very organized.

    Damn and I thought I was an angry person. Listen, this is just basic economics. I understand the 'sense of betrayal', if you will, but reality does have to take hold here. A company needs to generate funds to keep running especially if it is to keep producing. Companies are not 'greedy' though there are certainly people in every industry who are only concerned with the bottom line. If you want them to keep producing new content, features, updates, etc., than they need to be able to keep the lights on. Regardless of your feelings about subscription-based services, it is a growing method for companies to continue to generate revenue. Perfect? Far from it but it's more sustainable than producing goods and services at no further charge....ever.

    Not for S1-Pro users? Need to pay an additional subscription. Well post acquisition it was just a matter of time before the greedy Fender beancounters would start influencing Presonus like they already have ruined so many Fender products with sub-par components. For the last 50 years Fender has delivered questionable quality for maximum prices. The only exception is custom-shop-products signed off by proud builders. I would never have started using S1 if Presonus had been owned by Fender back then.

    keep your blood pressure down, spare yourself a lot of time and nerves because of learning a new (crappy, or at least uncomfortable) DAW, and keep on making music with a solid workflow ..
    and by the way, by changing to another DAW, you won't get this new instrument either, but the chance for losing a lot of more that you love from what you have 😎
    seriously, would you move from a mercedes to a fiat only because of smoother window regulators ?
