I was born in Carshalton War memorial Hospital in 1954 and have never seen it does it still exist .
I was 13 when moved away from the area and never realised how lovely Carshalton is .My Father Frank Diprose died in 1986 and after his Cremation ceremony we all went to the Greyhound Pub fond memories. Thankyou for the tour signed Robert Diprose
Thank you for sharing those memories Robert.
What a lovely tour around 'your manor'! Clearly someone on the local council is keen on promoting the area's heritage with all those plaques. Good for them! Thank you Marq.
Thanks Nigel, those Plaques have been there for quite a while now.
Hello Mark just came across your vid, wow man bought smile and memories. Carshalton park was my turff lived at Coulsdon Court in 74 Camden junior school then Carshalton boys, always will love my home town.
Thanks for the vid
I'm glad to have stirred those memories.
Mark, I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make.
Always informative.
You're very welcome, thank you :)
Well done marq Amazing video once again. I love history and geography.
Thanks very much.
Are there any Plaques that I have missed? Do please comment if I have left any out :)
I'd love to but it's getting in there as being a School.
Great tour around my old manor! Thanks
Thanks Andrew.
Nice to see Carshalton again. I used to walk through the park on my way to school. I think we were in the same year at Carshalton Boys Mark.
Were we really? Wow.
what a lovely video Marq. You found some great historical titbits, which were really fascinating. It's lovely too see stuff about our local area - its so easy to miss interesting stuff on your doorstep - we get so familiar with our surroundings that we stop really looking at it. Your video has helped me to open my eyes t some of the history we are lucky enough to live near. I am, however, left wondering whether I may be responsible for the motorcycle engine noise that clearly exasperates you towards the end!
Many thanks, always fascinating to explore local history....and can I request lesser motorcycle noise when filming next time lol :)
Makes me home sick, i'd love to move back there one day.
It's a fine area Mike as you know.
Thanks for this, it was great . I think there is a blue heritage plaque outside the entrance to St Philomenas at near the junction with Alma road
Thanks Nick, I thought I covered all of the St Phil's Plaques so will have another look.
very interesting thanks for doing this, have you done one on the Calico Mills of the Wandle; Beddington area?...there were a few fascinating families, who had them. My family were calico printers and bleachers, some also in the 19th c had shops Carlshalton High St, and on Pound Lane, Thomas Strachan furniture seller
Thank you Andrew, I have done little bits local to me in Carshalton most notably a little Documentary I did a few years ago and only briefly touch on the specific history but more an overview: ruclips.net/video/WFuM2-HOiSQ/видео.html
@@MarqEnglish Thanks yes had just watched that one, must get down there one day. One branch of my family ; Mizen, had Culvers House, Carlshalton in the 1910s - 1930s, and my Grandfather and my Great Aunt's, stayed there often, it was later used as a childrens refugee home for Spanish Civil War, orphans 1937-1940
@@andrewwyatt1784 Wow, that is really fascinating. That would be where Culvers Avenue is now I would assume?
@@MarqEnglish yes there was a pond a bridge swans and a crazy old house on a sort of Island, ..I have photos of the family there in the 1920s
I was born in St Helier Hospital Carshaltin. Thank you for the videos
You're very welcome Georgina :)
Thank you. It's my birthday next week.
Marq do a vid about St Helier Estate when you get back from Miami
I wasn't in Miami but to be honest (I think I've said before), I'm not that interested in St Helier as a Video.
Carshalton more intersting then Florida
I prefer Florida 😀
I believe Oliver Reid bought the orangery late 60s early 70s i was living in pound st at the time ,above gatestone soft furnishings no 85 ,
Oliver Reid? That's very interesting. Thanks for the info.
Marq English also the village hall opposite was carshalton rifle club i was member,it started 1902 circa
@@motolocounobikenut1482 Thanks for that Baz.
Isn’t one of the buildings by St Philomena’s supposed to be haunted by a grey lady spectre?
That's just folklore Jamie...nowhere is 'haunted' if spirit exists the n its everywhere.
Your probably right Marq, however my aunts sister who went to the school in the 1970’s said she saw her by the grotto but I’m sure she was just pulling legs as she’s the sort of person who likes to do that.
Also if you want to find some more plaques in the Sutton borough there’s the Dukes Head, Wallington Green and I think St Mary’s Chuch and Carew Manor in Beddington Park
@@JamieBoy-ij2ri I may do Wallington as a separate video Jamie like I will be for Sutton and Cheam.
Theres one blue one on a house on the right going up carshalton hill just before chalk pit opposite masionettes
i think that's a English Heritage Blue Plaque.
can you do a video just on carew manor?
We did (sort of) back in 2008.... ruclips.net/video/s41R8WqqFmo/видео.html
Marq English could you do one on the history of it? 😊
@Africa threatened to put 10 000 elephants in Hyde Park
Carshalton, sorry.
