Editor's note: At 8:45 I posit that romance may be the most destructive force in human history, however upon second thought I've realized that the most destructive force in human history is likely religious conviction

Im really glad you made this video and that I found it!! Im on the aroace spectrum too and Im realizing more with each passing day just how much I've been conditioned to plan my life around romance etc, and just how much it doesn't feel right for me. Please keep sharing your thoughts on this topic, I think your input can help to decrease the stigma and help us to connect with others that are allosexual! I relate to that loneliness...Fully. I appreciate the way you word things!

It is fascinating how many aspects of life are designed to revolve around romance, the more you consider it

I thought this video was very interesting, you had a lot of takes I’ve never heard before! I am also aro/ace and I’ve luckily managed to make friends with a few close people who rarely talk about relationship stuff- though I don’t mind when they do as long as they aren’t getting graphic about it. (I wonder if there’s a difference between how graphically men and women talk about sex/relationships with their friends? My close friends are all women)
Going to college helped a lot to find those people but really doing anything related to your interests is a good way to find other people who are more interested in talking about board games or writing than romance/sex. I also understand simultaneously feeling alone in the world but also like I don’t want to be around anyone. I would be fine not talking to my friends for months, talking to people and just being perceived at all are very anxiety-inducing. But it’s nice to have someone to talk to about my interests
I hope you can find friends who share your interests and have better boundaries around talking about personal relationship stuff so you don’t feel so out of place. But if you’re comfortable not having friends, good for you! As long as you’re living your best life I’m happy for you :)

I do hear quite often that a lot of aro people avoid contact and don't like interaction, but I actually enjoyed it a lot until I realized that everyone was having sex and flirting, and being friends with me wasn't enough for anyone on its own terms. I guess maybe I became addicted to friendship without realizing it, and it's actually bad for me- I probably shouldn't view it as universally positive in the same way I don't view romance as universally positive

I've found this video really interesting.
I can definitely see where this is coming from, with romantic stuff often being a source of a lot of distress, unhappiness and a bunch of hours of me crying myself to sleep while listening to melancholic goth albums, I can absolutely agree with the point of it often being a very, in some ways, destructive thing.
Yet it's also just a huge part of my life, and at the same time something that has lead to some relationships with a lot of positive moments as well.
Would my life be better without the want/need for romance/sex? Maybe it would, I just can't really imagine it for myself at all tho, maybe that's why a viewpoint from an Aromantic/Asexual perspective seems so... interesting to me?
Perhaps I am just trapped in a prison of primordial instincts without really realizing it or being able to think of a life without them very easily.
These are just some thoughts I've had after watching this video...
I think I might just look up some more stuff about the topic of asexuality/aromanticism. Its just such a (to me) different view on life and also, as a gay person I'm generally just interested in learning more about other parts of the lgbtqia* community as well.
Thanks for making the video! It definitely got me to step back and reflect on my own life a bit, and I am glad to have discovered it!

It is a very interesting and surreal existence, albeit one with its own unique obstacles and circumstances
