I agree with you, the short stories are the best; the novels often have filler material giving background to the story and those part don't feature Holmes and Watson and they are of course the most fun part to read - "The Hound of the Baskervilles" is perhaps the most famous of the novels but for me it's one of the least interesting ones.
I read most of them in Icelandic translation as a teenager but the Modern Sherlock TV series made me want to go back to the originals and I have them all in a very thick book the Complete Sherlock Holmes.
I've the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes but haven't got around to reading it yet. I legit just went & downloaded audible to listen to Stephen Fry's narration & I'm so excited xx

I just found out about the Stephen Fry audio version the other day and was immediately sure I'd want to listen to it all! Stephen Fry is such a great narrator and I've been meaning to catch-up on my Sherlock reading anyway. Such a fun video to watch!
oohh I love Sherlock Holmes. I'm actually a bit upset because I just started collecting a paperback series of them, and bought like 2 of them, when I saw the ones you have with the really awesome cover. But I don't want to switch now, so oh well, the slightly more boring ones it is! Maybe one day, if I have enough money to spare (unlikely), I'll start a collection of those too.
I do have to admit that 1) I haven't actually read all of the stories yet, and 2) my memory of crime novels in particular is terrible and pretty much the moment I close the book I forget like 95% of what happened in it. So honestly I have no idea what my favourite story is, but it does feel like I'm discovering them all for the first time which is pretty great as well.
I love Sherlock Holmes. Read them first as a kid, even before Harry Potter and I've been hooked to mystery stories ever since then. I'm yet to read all the Sherlock stories though and I enjoy rereading them too.
Ugh yes, I have loved Sherlock Holmes since I read an old first volume bind up when I was a kid. Right now I'm reading Arthur and Sherlock by Michael Sims and it's all about the creation of Holmes.
I loved the Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle too!

I have all stories in 3 books collection , now i playing a game sherlock holmes -conculting dectective.My favourite stories are:Musgrave Ritual, Blue Carbuncle,Cardboard Box. Because of sherlock i finish criminology sience.

For an old classic, the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is so unpredictably exciting and fast paced. As a modern reader, I was surprised by how readable it is. (I got the copy she held up in the video from Waterstones)
Love you love Holmes. Can I put a recommendation in for the BBC radio adaptations - wonderful as Fry is - the BBC adaptations are terrifically good mostly due to the performances of Clive Merrison and Michael Williams as Holmes and Watson, but also due to the brilliant skills of Bert Coules who adapted most of them. They're definitely worth checking out whenever they return to BBC 4 Extra

Omg I've been looking for a decent audio recording of the Sherlock Holmes stories for so long! I didn't know there's a Stephen Fry version? This is seriously the best news I've heard today.

I have the audiobook read by Stephen Fry on my Audible wishlist. But as with all my bookish wishlists, it's quite long :D I also have all the stories on my Kindle (might be one of the free or cheap classics you can get). I think there is a story about a stolen horse which I really liked - just checked: The Adventure of Silver Blaze.
Enjoyed your enthusiasm! I've read them all 2x, perhaps due for another read. Loved Sherlock since a young teenager. Speckled Band & Scandal in Bohemia (w/IreneA, I think?) are 2 faves, but so many. Glad you found ACDoyle even if your maths dyslexia got the better of you ... ;o) [fun fact: later fictional detective Nero Wolfe may be the offspring of Holmes]

Well I just ordered The Complete Collection of Shelock Holmes books in the B&N Leather Bound Classics last night it will be here tm.. Over 1100 pages containing all 4 books and 56 short stories of the series.. I can't wait to dive into it!!!
I must confess, Sherlock Holmes has been on my TBR for years, but I've never gotten around to reading it. Knowing I' can get the audios read by Stephen Fry, however, changes everything. I adore him, and I can just imagine him reading these tales.

I am not a native english speaker and i am not little master of vocabulary so i want to know that can i read sherlock holmes?
The vocabulary isn't very easy to understand, but you could try reading one of his short stories to see.
If you can understand standard, modern-day written English, I doubt you'll have a problem with these. They're probably amongst the easiest 'classics' one can read, but there will be a few technical terms (mostly medical), as well as a few redundant words from the period which you might have to look up, but even if you didnt, the stories are quite understandable even so. Of crouse, I say this as a native speaker, but I can read Spanish and these are no Don Quixote, haha.
@@futurez12 I was constantly interrupted by the vocabulary of the novel. I had to see the dictionary 4 to 5 times each page.
