I really like Glasswire for a host based firewall. Comodo does look a bit more superior in features but I tend to run on a "ask to connect" setting which means the Firewall blocks by default and I have to allow the pop up. It makes for easy digestion since the GUI is a bit more easier to navigate and understand than Comodo's. From my understanding is that it does use the base Windows Firewall. That said, I also run my PC on a standard user account and not an admin account. This of course protects from A LOT. Cyber security is a multi tiered approach and one tool ain't going to protect you from everything even though Comodo looks to be one of the best stand alone products you can get.

Works with any AV you have could also have tested it against file-less malware as well as Polymorphic worms the containment feature works against any unknown malware will sandbox until removed also recommended mention Tiny Wall.

Comodo antivirus includes all these same components, but with an AntiVirus included. They are, however, configured differently. On the firewall, the HIPS is on by default and the Containment is off by default. On the Antivirus, its the exact opposite. The HIPS is off by default and the Containment is on by default.

Firewall is now more needed to stop OS from spying on the user than to protect against malware.
One problem is that most firewalls utilize Windows Filtering Platform, which is nice, but controlled by Microsoft. The only firewall which is using it's own driver instead of WFP that I found is net-peeker. It is very nice for more advanced users. I even was able to make system very non-responsive by mistakenly blocking RPC connections.
Another nice firewall I found is more like configurator for Windows Firewall named Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control. But of course, if MS want to punch a hole in their Firewall, it will affect this solution too...

Since then I've been much more cautious about what programs I install on my computer, and I use the paid Bitdefender Total Security and change the firewall default rule to alert me anytime there is an unrecognized connection to the Internet. It's a bit of pain anytime a program updates itself and you get the popup, but not near the pain as I recall Comodo was, and Comodo didn't wind up protecting me anyway. I don't trust any free firewall program since, and if I were you, I would just change the firewall alert setting from the default off to on in Bitdefender Total Security and stick with it alone.

Also if you are lucky enough to step on a malware that is just a few minutes or an hour old Virus total will most likely not gonna pick it up or will only be detected by 1-3 AVs max but a normal user would assume its a false positive. As mentioned in the video a free home license for Sophos is a good place to start if you want to roll your own firewall. You can get a free home license for Sophos XG or UTM that includes nearly all of the paid version features for free. It can be installed on an old computer with at least two network cards, or on a device such as those from Protectli. I've been using, installing and managing UTM for over 15 years, but I'm not a fan of XG because it lacks features that I use. However, XG is being developed more than UTM and it may play a bigger role in Sopho's future. So for a person just starting out XG might be the better way to go. I use Sophos for customers that have the need and don't mind paying for it, and pfSense for the poorer or cheaper ones. It's hard to beat Sophos for a free home firewall unless you have really specific needs that Sophos doesn't support. I would love to see this channel do a deep dive into Sophos XG or UTM.

I've been using Comodo Internet Security for many years and never had any problem with viruses and hacks, however it was gradually slow the system down on all computers to the point, it took forever to boot the system because Comodo was using 100% of resources and was not responding for ages. I had to frequently re-install it. But last time it happened, for some reason Comodo decided to intentionally hide their free IS product on their website and at that moment I was not keen to pay for it to use on multiple devices and I decided to go with Avast instead. Since then I am wondering if I made a mistake. Would love to see a comparison between Comodo Internet Security and Avast Premium Security in terms of prevention and blocking.

I have a Dell Windows 10 laptop; when I tried to install the free Comodo firewall Kaspersky (to which I switched after having seen it tested here) deleted a file (fusion.dll.temp) and then began "disinfecting before rebooting." All of a sudden the program hung and I couldn't use the computer. After a few minutes I manually rebooted and the problem continued for an hour or so: no matter how many times I turned the computer on, only the cursor showed over a faintly illuminated screen. After many tries, Macrium rescue media finally started and I could repair the Windows installation. The Kaspersky file antivirus report shows the file as being detected, backup copied, and deleted several times over one hour.

    • @MukulChopra
      @MukulChopra 3 года назад +1

Fusion is software used for packing installers. In and of itself it is legitimate, and many common programs use it. However, it is often used to pack Potentially Unwanted Programs/Applications (PUP/PUA), or straight malware, hence why many AVs will flag fusion.dll.
Comodo using fusion has been questionable for years but they haven't changed the installers which makes me ponder how safe their product is

Dude, its 2022. Reinstalling Windows does not wipe away all your data like it used to do in the past. You can enable an option that tells the windows installer to reinstall windows but keep all your files and apps.
This option will not remove the virus program, but it will undo the damage it did to your system. This will allow you to get your system back into a runnable state so that you can install a virus program and delete the virus file that's hiding on your hard drive.
and why on earth were you even running a system that has no security program in the first place? There are tons of reputable free anti virus programs, anti malware programs, and phishing and rootkit programs, and third party firewalls.

After i installed Comodo free firewall, even if i turn off HIPS, kaspersky doesn't catch comodo leak test as a threat and doesn't block it.. Another example: in google chrome kasperky protection extension isn't working, too after installation of comodo free firewall.. You have to install Kaspersky first, otherwise it declares Comodo as "incompatible software". However, they DO work together, despite the KAV warning. Once installed, set rules in Comodo to ignore kaspersky. Otherwise, the Comodo HIPS starts interfering with Kaspersky and you get popups like crazy. The firewall will also sometimes block Kaspersky from dialing out, so keep an eye on that or exclude KAV from the firewall. Alternatively, you could turn off the HIPS entirely and leave that function to the Kaspersky system watcher, but be sure to leave VirusScope, firewall, and Auto-Contain on. That's about it. Quick pointer on Comodo installers, the stand alone Comodo firewall does not include an AV, and Comodo Internet security allows you to not install the AV, HOWEVER, Comodo Internet Security PREMIUM does NOT allow you to ignore the AV and neither does Comodo Antivirus. At least as of this writing (April 2020).

No stick with a complete security suite if you have it. If you are using like bit defender free or Kaspersky free then install comodo to fill in some gaps but on the whole keep with the internet premium package but bit defender, Kaspersky and sophos are probably better than eset

@@joebrackenborough1051 I thought he meant ESET AV when I initially responded. You COULD use both. The AV would be from ESET while Comodo would run Containment and VirusScope. They both offer HIPS and firewall. Though I have seen firewalls and HIPS setups that will run concurrently, I don't know if ESET and Comod would play nice together. If not, you could turn the firewall and HIPS off on one product and let the other handle those tasks.

Does Komodo goes hand in hand with Kaspersky Total Security or will it cause problems?
