Some people just don't like change, it seems, and want shows to remain the same throughout. They were building toward the Fran and Sheffield hookup from the get-go. It was only a matter of time.
Exactly, but they could watch the same "will they or won't they with Rachel and Ross on FRIENDS for 10 years.. who imo were far more grating annoying characters.
First of all, FRIENDS had better ratings than THE NANNY did. FRIENDS was always in the Top 10. In fact, Seasons 2-10 were in the Top 5; Season 1 finished at #8 for the 1994-1995 TV season. Furthermore, FRIENDS was #1 during its eighth season. How many shows can boast that? THE NANNY was never in the Top 10 or 20. It usually hovered in the #20s, #30s, and above.
So, that's partly why Ross & Rachel's off-and-on again romance was stretched out to ten seasons. It's all about advertising dollars! FRIENDS was raking in more revenue than THE NANNY, which only lasted six seasons. I'm pretty sure they would have prolonged the Fran and Maxwell hookup, if the show had been a phenomenon like FRIENDS. (For what it's worth, I much prefer THE NANNY, but I calls it like it is.)
Secondly, Rachel and Ross had a long history going back to childhood. I believe Monica and Rachel met and became fast friends as first-graders.
The grandmother is so annoying.
