- Quick video of my recording setup for my drums when recording tracks for original music. I use a samson 5kit mics, one on each drum, and one shure sm58 for picking up cymbals. Then I route 4 mics directly into my high gain channels on my alesis multimix 8 usb2.0 mixer, and the last 2 mics are routed to an old amp head to give them more gain, and then that amp out is sent to channel 5 on my mixer. the mixer connects to my laptop via usb and tracks each mic separately, except 4&5 are stuck together, which is no biggie considering they are my mid and floor toms (both panned right and same volume). I usually play to a metronome on my android phone and record straight to cubase 5 le, then later we add bass, guitar, and vocals on top. that way everything is in time. :)
I have got a similiar setup. Quick question: Does everything go as a single track in your DAW or as a separate tracks for each mic?
So my setup is a lot better now I've bought new upgraded equipment. But to answer your question, each mic recorded as a separate track in my daw. So I have a 7 mic setup, 2 overheads snare bass and each tom. I now use a focusrite scarlett 18i20 and I bought a new laptop. Producing some very nice sound for a home studio!
When I recorded this video I used an Alesis Multimix8 usb2.0 which recorded separate tracks but only 4 preamps. The focusrite scarlett has 8 preamps and phantom power switchable so it's much better I don't need that extra preamp.
The mics I use now is the samson 7 kit, it comes with 2 overhead pencil condenser mics that use phantom power and the cymbals come in much better
@@drummerjstone Thanx a lot for quick response. I've got alesis mulimix as well, a few dinamic shure mics and a macbook pro with garage band on it. I also have ableton live but I don't know how to record separate tracs cause it only shows one.
lol to each his own man, I was trained to use my fingers and wrists to actually strike each hit and not free roll on toms. so angle does not matter and I've never wanted to mess with it haha but I might for fun now.
First view ;p
Nice video man
awesome setup
Thanks bro!
