  • In this video, I talk about my experience using the Canon M50 with a 50mm 1.8 lens.
    I have had my Canon m50 since february and purchases the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens (aka the nifty fifty) a few months later. The 50mm 1.8 lens has become one of my favorites to use with my Canon m50.

    I'm having this fantastic lens for so many years, I already had it on my Canon T80 in 1987 and now the last STM version on my EOS 250D. Besides the sharpness, the bokeh and so on, one thing must be noted that nobody at this moment talked about: the feeling of depth. For example, when you focus on a middle of a field, of a scene, both the foreground and the background will be out of focus, augmenting the feeling of depth, of relief, of reality. I never observed that with any of the lenses I have. But nobody talks of that.

    Greay channel! You post a lot about m50, would you recommend to get it with kit lens 15-45 or is it better to buy body only? I own few good ef-s lenses and am thinking bout skipping the kit lens and getting just the adapter instead.

    • @AngelaZuniga
      @AngelaZuniga  3 года назад +1

      Tbh I hardly use the kit lens. It’s a good lens but I think you’d be better off getting the body and then eventually buying other m-series lenses for it. I have a video in mind to make about the kit lens and getting the most out of it just cause I do wish I used it a bit more. 🤔

    On the M50 with that adapter you didn’t mention that the Nifty Fifty is more like an 80mm lens with the 1.7 crop sensor of the M50. It’s great for portraits but even with the lens booster adapter which makes the FS top even lower the lens felt a bit too tight for landscape.

    • @AngelaZuniga
      @AngelaZuniga  3 месяца назад +1

      Hmmmmmm if it is in good condition it should be fine since there’s less risk of dust or scratches since it isn’t glass. I like buying my stuff secondhand from websites because you usually get a warranty. So there’s a risk with not getting a warranty, at least it isn’t a super expensive item tho, so it might be worth the risk. Your call ☺️

    Pros:
    Pretty sharp
    Good for low light
    Nice bokeh
    Good for Portrait Photography.
    Cons:
    Some chromatic abbration
    A bit too zoomed in for me
    Not good for video since it has not IS and slow AF.

    • @AngelaZuniga
      @AngelaZuniga  3 года назад +1

      This will definitely get you a blurred background, but you should probably get the speed booster adapter instead of the normal adapter I have in this video. The nifty 50 is built for a full frame camera and the normal adapter makes the frame more cropped in. The speed booster reduces this. Since you will be filming fitness stuff you will probably want it cropped in as little as possible.

    What about the viltrox speed booster adapter that compensates for the crop factor. Yes, it's more expensive but what an investment. Imagine that the crop factor for all ef lenses used on your m50 will be almost the same as if used on a full frame canon. I am curious what you think of it. If the quality is a bit less, I don't notice, but that's me. Some of us have a better eye. I doubt if the speed booster image quality is an issue, but I would like to know what the majority thinks.
    What's the big deal of bokeh and background blur. It's so strange the one day everyone likes one thing and the next day they all change their likes and dislikes. My most unfavorite word is trendy. It is another word for lack of creativity. It means you decide on what you want based on consensus instead of your heart.

    I have the same camera and same lens/ adaptor and I recently realized that the M50 has a 1.6x crop factor which makes the lens closer to the angle of view of an 85mm than 50mm.. I am now looking for a “real” 50mm. any suggestions? Maybe an EF 30 mm ? I dont like the kit lens at all, I make a lot of portraits and creative photos with artists so it’s an issue for me that it’s F value is so high :/

      More light is being let In but the depth of field is closer to an f/2.0.
      If I'm mistaken, someone do please correct me.

    • @Ben-bq5nv
      @Ben-bq5nv 2 года назад

      I have the 50mm too. On an adaptor it is about 80mm. With a viltrox speed booster it is about 54mm with f/1.2 instead of f/1.8.
      Get an adaptor and speed booster as then with other ef lenses, you will then in effect have 2 lenses for the price of 1. 80mm & 54mm. And so on with other ef lenses.

    50mm is THE BEST lens for beginners to start with

    Yo Angela! We both like saving a buck and we both like a unique asthetic for our photos, so I thought maybe you'd try out what I did and see if you like it too - I bought myself some vintage lenses and adapted them to my M50. They are darn AMAZING and super cheap. I bought an M42-EOS and OM-EOS adapter and put that onto my EF adapter, then just slapped my lenses on and went out shooting. Just an idea for a future video🤷🏻‍♂️ keep up the great content, sister🔥🤙🏼

      Oh, and my recommendations for those lenses are any Olympus OM Zuiko primes and Pentax Takumar lenses🔥

    With the adapter in place the 50mm lens is no longer 50mm but I guess more like 80mm. This makes your comparison invalid.

      If you are using the nifty 50 with a canon m50 yes, the lens is build for an ef mount.

      Extremely late response, but in case anyone else has this question: to use the nifty 50 you need an adapter
