I just bought a used one of these a couple of weeks ago, and it's in pretty much the same condition. I agree with everything you say, particularly the build quality - it's superb. I had the previous Mk3 2.2 diesel, and the chassis improvements are night and day. Mind you, the 2.2 was more refined than the 1.6, which has a more gruff note under acceleration, but it's still a smooth engine. The later Mk4s have a wider track, and Honda have defintely worked magic on the chassis. Where my older one wallowed and bounced through the twistys, this one corners flat and level. The more I drive the newer one, the more I notice improvements. Honda seem to have gone through it with a fine tooth comb, and improved everything, even if only by a little, in some cases, eg the different finish on the silver swage across the dash, and the piano black heating/ventilation controls surround, but they all add up to more than the sum of their parts. One slight problem I had with mine was an annoying rattle, which seemed to come from the dash/front passenger door area. It was driving me nuts, until the service manager of the Honda dealer I bought it from suggested it was most likely the plastic surround for the rear view mirror and rain sensor. Sure enough he was right! Easy fix. Just goes to show how rattles can be misleading as to where you think they come from. The 9 speed ZF wouldn't be as smooth as a dual-clutch system, in that you can feel the gear changes, but they are still smooth, with only some slight jerkiness first thing, when cold. Overall, it's a great gearbox/engine combo, just like you say.
Glad your enjoying it and I agree with all you say. That rattle caught me out too ! Convinced it was from elsewhere but I always check if they are loose now !
Have an 18 reg one same spec love it just wondering do you ever test drive the gen 5 CRV ?? I really like them and think I’d like one as my next car Great reviews as always thanks
@@conorhanley9009 I haven't driven the MK5, although my sister-in-law replaced her Mk4 with a Mk5, and she loves it. It's the hybrid. I belive the Mk5 is not availble with a diesel engine.
