    I found and ordered 2 of your CDs. One shipped out today from a distribution center in Jersey City New Jersey. I hope you make more then just a few cents per CD sale. I have to find out next if your latest album is available on CD. I play thousands of songs at open mics and charity events and when it's safe to do so, looking forward to doing so again. Jamie your guitar lesson videos are excellent. I have, we have, Marilyn & I have 2 great granddaughters who are learning. They play clarinets and violins but guitar seems a bit of a challenge to them. Your lessons are helping them. Great Granddaughters, no typo, shows my age, but also for Marilyn & I it makes us Great Too, being called great grandparents can be worn like a badge of honor. Good luck Jamie & may we all have a lot more time to sing and play and teach and enjoy. Thank you. I'm hearing you sing on my favorite radio station here in DownEast Maine. WERU

    Great lessons, Jamie. I’m presently in a bit of a guitar playing rut & I find you & your teaching methods to be encouraging & uplifting. After 3 years of playing I still consider myself a beginner, and as many others, I struggle with the F chord. Paradoxically I can play it as barre chord but when I use my index finger to fret the 1st & second strings, at least one is always muted. Patience & practice I guess. Cheers from Alberta!

    What did you set your metronome for a nice easy strumming pattern? In this video, that is? Or would for a beginner?

    • @JamieAndersonMusic
      @JamieAndersonMusic  3 года назад

      It varies according to the player. Set it at the lowest speed -- for my metronome that's 40 bpm -- and see if you can follow it. If yes, inch it up a couple of notches and try again. Keep doing that until you start to stumble, then keep it at that tempo for awhile. BTW I don't remember what setting I used for the video, sorry.

    Hi Jamie! I have a bad habit of tensing my right shoulder and forearm when I play very fast rhythms, like Celtic or Appalachian music- I didn't realize I was doing this until I complained to my chiropractor about my right arm & shoulder hurting all the time, & he asked me what I was doing with it, lol! I try to physically drop that shoulder & relax the tension in my forearm when I get going fast & realize I'm tensing up, but I'm really struggling with this! Do you have any suggestions to break this habit beyond what I'm currently doing? Also, I'm fine with MAKING barre cords, but tend to avoid keys where it's ALL barre cords, because after a short while, my hand starts cramping( which makes it hard to keep holding them) and sometimes doesn't want to uncurl to grab an open cord fast enough! I bought a Daddario finger strength trainer, but it didn't help as much as I had hoped it would. I have issues with my hands from almost 30 years of grooming dogs for a living, & that's probably the cause, but any suggestions you have will be appreciated! I use my capo a lot, but feel like I'm cheating myself because I would be a better musician if I just play in those keys that I'm avoiding. Sometimes I will just run thru the diatonic chords, both major and minor, in those keys, & force myself thru the pain, I have a few simple songs( like Tir Na Nog, by the Celtic Women) that are ALL barre Chords( mainly because of the key I play them in) that I make myself practice with- I'm not sure what else to try, except just keep doing it! Or use a capo! 🥰💖

    • @JamieAndersonMusic
      @JamieAndersonMusic  4 года назад

      Capos are not bad, they're great tools. I'd avoid songs that are all barre chords unless you're playing an electric or an acoustic with low action and light gauge strings. Playing through the pain is a bad idea because you could be injuring yourself. Your chiropractor may be able to help you. Being conscious of a tense shoulder is a good step. Other than that you may need a health practitioner to guide you.

      In many years of teaching, I've never found that to be true. I've taught seven year olds to play a C chords. You may want to explore using a 3/4 size guitar or maybe switch to the ukulele.

      @@JamieAndersonMusic I wonder if it might be related to the geometry of my hand, then, and the angle of my fingers. It seems crazy that I would have so much trouble with it.
      (I don't love the sound of the ukelele.)

      @@paulagardner3218 A lot of beginners have trouble with some chords. You're doing something with your hands that you haven't done in everyday life. It's like deciding to do the splits and not making it all the way down for a while. Practice those challenging chords and eventually, you'll have the flexibility and strength to do them.

    May I add one as an older new player? Hydrate. It’s much easier to play if fingers are plump and hydrated. Drink a glass of water before practice. Says Lisa who has only been playing this time for 2 months.

      Hydrating is always good, no matter what you're doing. I talk about that a bit in this video. ruclips.net/video/fUIJMm4zcHE/видео.html

      No and I didn't mean to imply that. I've seen a lot of them over the years. What I meant is that you don't want to cause undue harm to your body.
