So refreshing to listen to Miss Lou. As a child growing up in the Jamaica i enjoyed listening to her and laugh. Thanks for preserving this precious piece of art and history.
Ultimately she taught us to respect our own culture. We all know before her all the foreign things were thought of as better than Jamaican. Now we have our own language, music and culture, that is loved by almost all people around the world.
Many West Indians were the core laborers of the Panama Canal during the construction days and they left their culture solidly in the Isthmus, where it grounded with the local and impacted immensely. Miss Lou has always been an impact with her Auntie Roachie stories that reached Panama around the 70s and we relive every bit of it on this marvelous piece you have posted. Many thanks for the knowledge and laughter.
I'm a Jamaican and I would like to hear more of miss Lou from the 60s she has a lot more, I had been listening to miss lou from i wae about 5 years old sitting on the steep of my door way there she comes on the radio talking about her auntie roachie LOL. I heard these all the time she has many more to make us laugh whenever we are sad BIG UP MISS LOU RIP.
I am a teacher living in the Turks & Caicos Islands and every time I have one of my students celebrating a birthday, they just love it when I sing the Happy Birthday song. Ms Lou's style. This legendary lady was at the core of my childhood experiences. Love you, Miss Lou!
