    People have no idea what we do .the hours we put in to keep the economy going , everything we use in our daily lives comes through the ILA ports . The FOREIGN companies that own the ships. And YES …OWN LAND IN OUR COUNTRY all the ports in ny/nj is foreign owned no such thing as American stevedores, are making billions and billions in profits off of the backs of hard working Americans .. during Covid store shelves were somewhat stocked..We worked through the pandemic 24/7 to keep products coming into this country if we hadn’t there would of been absolutely nothing in the stores. The average person doesn’t think how products make it to the store shelves POOF! It magical appears. NO!! It’s a longshoreman a trucker a Warehouse man that brings these things to you….

      I say fire them all and hire people who will appreciate the job. These ignorant selfish strikers are willing to let the entire country suffer because they think they deserve more pay. Unemployment is at an all time high, people cannot find a job, cannot afford to buy food to feed their families. This is ridiculous to do this now. We are in a recession. By the end of 2024 it will be the worst recession in history. This is not the time for a strike. This is not the time to be demanding more pay. This is a time to appreciate the job and pay you have because their are plenty of Americans who wish they could have what these dock workers have. We have millions who just lost their homes, their businesses. We have millions of people being layed off all over the world. We have food shortages and sky rocketing prices. No one can afford to buy a new home. No one an afford a new vehicle. Many cannot afford to pay their bills. CC Debt is thru the roof. This is insanity at its finest.

  • @jedlowe5158
    @jedlowe5158 Месяц назад +1

    The whole economy is trash due to greed. Top dollar went up, but our lives continually get worse. With advances in technology, the regular civilian produces way more work for these companies than ever before. How is it as generations progress, the regular civilian owns less while companies make more profit??? How was the normal back in the day, big families with a home big enough to accommodate those families to now where affording to raise more than one kid is nearly impossible, and there is a housing crisis. Daycare is literally $1000 plus per kid. Everything we want to do in life is $1000 plus, and most "careers" can't even break $1000 a week after taxes. Everything looks great on paper until you pay taxes. Nobody wants to work harder just to live paycheck to paycheck anymore. It's time for employers to stop profiting so much and actually share the wealth we are making for them. Companies have more than enough money where they can over produce and continually expand at unimaginable rates now. If things aren't fixed, what will the majority have to fight for anymore. History shows that people fight for what they hold dear, if all the future holds for future generations is debt and loneliness I don't see any sustainability for the U.S..

    A society can’t function effectively when you have a bunch of factions all out for themselves. The corporations don’t care about their employees OR their customers, the politicians don’t care about them either; the politicians and corporations only care about each other as far as greasing each others wheels. The really sad part is that everyone & everything would be so much better off if we appreciated and respected everyone and had a mutual set of values. Profit at the expense of literally everything else is definitely not practical or sustainable. There’s a right way to do capitalism and a wrong way. Not all companies should be publicly traded, many of them would be much better off if they were privately owned. What are we really investing in if the profits come at the expense of everything else around us?

    My question is why do we still have to worry about a dot strike when it affects so many people? Why aren't our docks automated like the massive docks in China that handle a lot more volume than our docks. We could do this and then we could retrain the current dock workers to hire paying technical jobs for them and their families. I’d say the solution would be to work with both the unions and tech developers to gradually phase in automation with robust retraining and compensation packages for workers. It would allow for a smoother transition that doesn’t just leave people jobless and angry. And, yeah, in the long run, it might actually create better-paying, more skilled jobs, as long as the safety net is there for workers during the shift.

    Ok 77% is a bit much damn. Automation can’t be avoided and while I want that job protected to some degree as a consumer if you automate, it can reduce the cost on me. Now the thing is, it’s not as if that job that has been automated suddenly takes away a job immediately because now that automated portion of the job normally done by a robot to have a programmer somebody has to actually install the robot somebody has to verify the software works. Somebody has to actually build the robot. Automation is neither good. It’s just a tool and when there are changes in how we do things it’s usually a net positive. change is scary for a lot of people. If we can automate a lot of this process, that means we can unload ships a lot faster. If you unload ships a lot faster, you can speed up the globally economy, reducing the cost of goods for all consumers. If the cost of goods is reduced for all consumers that’s more money pump into the economy more money put into the economy means more jobs. All of a sudden that job you thought you lost it pop up somewhere else. The worker who potentially loses the job or rather the worker who wouldn’t be able to keep that job once the other person retiresto be prepared to go into another field. Don’t be prepared to be the dock worker be prepared to be the robot programmer. For the record, the robot programmer makes more money than the dock worker.

      AI can already write software much faster than a programmer. AI can already design electronic circuits better than an electrical engineer. Companies use robots, automation and AI not because it costs them more employment, but saves them money by cutting employment costs. This is just a fact and they have people convinced that it will create jobs down the road, which is a lie.

      Ila only got a total of 11 percent raise over the past 6 year contract. This new contract c would keep up with inflation. Idk why ppl think union wages make everything more expensive. If everything was automated , you think companies would drop prices!? That's hilarious. They would simply keep the prices make more profit and increase them as inflation keeps going. Ila wages don't even account for 1 percent of what usmx profits every year. Their ceo gave themselves a 4 billion.... yes billion dollar bonus. There's so much that ppll don't know about this industry it's crazy

      @@hybridt The whole reason we started losing our manufacturing jobs was because of two things, high labor costs, unions and crazy environmental policy some 30 years ago to CHINA and Mexico. I don't believe the younger generation understands why. I know why, I watched it happen.. Also, the U.S. now employees more people in govt. than manufacturing. According to the Labor Dept. we now have 24 million working government and 14 million working in the manufacturing sector.

      China does not allow high wages because China is a manufacturing power, if China's wages are too high will produce inflation, Higher costs are then bad for international trade. China's low-wage purchasing power is not low.

      If your father really is that, then you would know the first and main reason that has caused the strike is not about money. Money is ALWAYS discussed during contracts. That’s nothing new. It’s about a foreign company running automation in American ports with a contract that states no automation and putting American workers out of jobs.
      It’s a bit disingenuous for you who isn’t in the business to tell someone they make enough. And I know as my grandfather, Dad, Uncle brother and myself all have or currently work at the port.
