Dockworkers from Maine to Texas have walked out on the job at all East Coast and Gulf Coast ports, launching the first strike of its kind in almost 50 years. The International Longshoremen's Association represents some 45,000 workers at 36 ports who are demanding higher wages and guarantees that jobs won't be automated. "This is a time of labor mobilization in this country," says Peter Goodman, New York Times global economics correspondent, who explains President Biden is caught between union pressure to back the strike and the threat of consumer prices rising while shipping is disrupted. "We're only weeks away from a presidential election that could very well hinge on economic sentiments and unhappiness over inflation."

Idiot FJB didn't respect collective bargaining with the rail workers. 🤷‍♀️ And all this harping on the amount of money the workers want completely ignores the kind of compensation afforded the executives. Why is there never reporting on that? I'd love to see a complete report of everybody's salary from the top person to the lowest. You are not leaving your socio-economic group through pay adjustments. You want a big jump then you need to increase your own value to this world. Not through strongarming people, but by creating value itself. Even if these dockworkers get what they want, their communities will experience inflation to cover the increase in pay. I find it quite interesting how the strikes happen at this time. This is coming from the top down, but I haven't figured out just why. I highly doubt this is a well organized nation-wide strike initiated by the workers themselves

Maybe not great timing for an extended strike. Will the dockworkers enjoy 4 years (or more) of Trump/Maga authoritarian rule if the strike has an "unfortunate" influence on the election outcome?

This is great timing for an extended strike, and I have no idea what else you’re attempting to articulate in the rest of your sentence. Half of dock workers are democrats and the other half are republicans, they all deserve to get compensated and they will create as much domestic and international pressure as necessary to achieve that.
