  • Filmed in hazy color in May, 2023 (smoke from western Canada prevented us from seeing blue skies) , the French River is one of the most beautiful spots to visit in Southern Ontario.
Starting in Lake Nipissing and ending in Georgian bay, it served as a highway for the Algonquin people, who called it Wemitgoj-Sibi. Lacking originality, the Europeans ignored this glaringly obvious fact and simply called it something else - ergo, the French River was born (OK, the name, anyway).
After the Grand Trunk Railway went through the area, it gradually changed into a recreation destination and was declared a heritage site in 1985.
