the owner of Rebellion literally lives about 10mins from my house and used to see his matte black a45 all hte time it was unbelievable. i tried racing him in my Focus RS and he destroyed me
I wouldn't say it's a shit idea to put a tuning box in your car, but I'd prefer to do a custom tuning with dynoruns. Every engine is a little bit different, thats why there are also different output datas on dynoruns of stock cars.. but I got to admit, that it's really easy to remove.
Rebellion Automotive, best in the business for A45 tuning. Good choice Archie, know the guys there well
Only thing with Rebellion tunes is that on the A45 forums some people have said that after 'tricking' the ECU to generate more power but supposedly after a year or so the ECU relearns the map and adapts, resetting back to stock.
These boxes divide opinion in the tuning community. I went for a revo remap on my old motor (Leon Cupra), after looking at one of these plug and play options - I simply wasn't prepared to take the risk after some of the horror stories I'd heard. Also Remaps can be reset to factory if required. Please be careful with your pride and joy guys. I'd risk it on a £2000 weekend burner, but NEVER, EVER on a £50k+ AMG.

i did uby a TDI TUNNING box and did a dyno and it was making no where near the power they claimed

Not a fan of all these "piggyback" systems!! Piggyback systems trick the car into thinking something that's not there. People should really get a "flash tune", it's much better.

The fact that you can "de-tune" the car whenever you want (or need) is really really cool. I hope they sell lots of them so that they can create these magic boxes for more cars/brands/models.
This kind of power boxes are only connected to 4 sensors. It's basically misleading the engine central unit (ECU = the brain of your engine) on injection parameters, boost pressure and engine temperature.
And it's done without any data loging or dyno tests... How can you guess the power increase ?
A custom ECU remap would have been so much better for your engine.

Mark Galloway send it back mate and look at piggy back boxes. Fine for a 10k motor not a 50k one. All the R&D merc does and your just using a cheap box to run your pride and joy! Map it or keep it standard.

Mark Galloway it's just a bit naff mate. I've got a golf r and ran a box for a few months before moving up to APRs stage 1 map and the difference is night and day. Piggy back boxes trick your car which isn't good as they also take over running your car without the safety parameters your Ecu uses. A custom map is made for your car only with the a45 you would be looking at close to 450bhp too.

great! I have the A180d (109 hp, 26 Nm) and I'm planning on tuning it in January. I'm really looking forward to the extra power it needs since it's already a beautiful looking car, just a bit under-powered...

save the money. you get used to more power so quickly.
my first car was an opel (vauxhal in the u.k.) with 60hp. then i got a skoda octavia with 130hp. coming from 60hp this thing felt like a rocket and i thought i would never need more power then it had. after some weeks it bored me and i tuned it with a box.
still bored me after a year or so and i went with a skoda superb with 170hp. that was okayish but i chipped it to around 200hp and kept it for a while.
now i have an audi a6 with 313hp and it starts to bore me again... see what i mean? ;)
YamahaYZFR6RJ05 yeah but I would say go for a minimum of 150bhp. Makes pulling out of roundabouts, just general driving etc way more enjoyable and safer imo
Chris Scott correct me if I'm wrong, I think 150bhp is around 127hp.
127hp are 18 "raging horses" more than he has right now... so next to nothing for a car at around 1,5 tons

What does 4 clean starts mean? like start the car, stop the car, then repeat 3 more times?
Stock 0 to 100 kmh in 4.2 sec. Now around 3.9 sec whit 430hp.. good work .

Hi Archie, when you're pulling into the garage at start, what exhaust are you running? Stock? Mine does not sound like that!

Is this an alternative to ECU remapping or can you use this and an ECU Remap and get the gains from both? IS this just a plug in ECU?
Fabii it's a crappy alternative mate. Some generic software running your expensive car not good. He wants a full custom map. These companies that sell theses boxes just play on the 'it won't effect warranty' that's their selling point.

did Rebellion told you what difference of maintance you have to do after plug and play tune? and what reliability/weak spots after doing this ? I am thinking about doing this stage 1....
Just get a proper map, you will see how much better the car runs. This is a cheap piggy back Ecu on your 50k motor mate.

n55 in the m235 is tuning heaven
archie strudwick should try a DTUK box! If it's the one that has 320PS standard they take it up to 360PS and adds 55Nm of torque! :)

Mate I'm sorry but this an of the shelf tune for an a45 and it cost me £45 for a base tune to go from 130 to 180 hp on my diesel that's stupid £500+ is like custom remap money

How come others are talking 600 and 860 quid. The site says it's only £501 for mine, and for that I gain 79PS and 98nm :)

Jack Lambert Yeah, I already had a word with myself. Two things: 1, 408PS is already enough, I never think "I wish I had more" so don't know why I considered this, and 2, It's a great way to invalidate my car insurance.
Thats exactly my thoughts, 470bhp is plenty for me, especially through the back tires! Once you stop having fun in a straight line, go sideways! ;)

vice randy Yes it will, and despite what the chap at Rebellion said changes to the ECU are recorded and can be traced during servicing.
if you get a plug and play box like this no because you can just take it out anytime. if tou remap the actuall ecu on the car then it does invalidate your warranty.
It's still recorded as being connected and if it's something Mercedes don't recognise they will question it.

Nick Mouyiassi tuning boxes are better than a remap when it comes to this as you can just unplug them when you need to!
