Right!!! I still think about that scene to this day!! Anne Hathaway delivered the hell out of the desperation and determination of Elle's "I will not obey!" As a kid who grew up in a not so safe household, that scene brought me to tears every time. 😭
The fact he knew she did everything she was told, he didnt know why but he knew at a certain point And from then on he made sure to clarify she didnt have to do something he said or that it was a question or something she could turn down so she wouldnt do anything she wasnt comfortable with or didnt want to do
I speculate that the reason why he always made sure, and affirms that irts not an order, not because he noticed but more because he is a prince, so most people already always do what he says. and since he is polite and wants to make sure that she is doing it all willingly, he confirms it. So It's just was the perfect match, a prince who wants people to treat him normally, and the girl who needs people to give her, her own will. while on the other hand, we have the unconfident prince (as in ruling the kingdom) and she opened up the gates of his confidents. so they both opened up a piece of themselves that they were longing for.

The way her curse operates is different too like instead of it just instantly causing her to do whatever she's told she learns to resist for a bit but after a while she gets sick and has to obey. The book is a lot more fleshed out and well-written in my opinion.
What I love most is that in the scene where Char says “kiss me” we actually DO hear the cue-it’s just really light and slowed down, if you listen closely, and I feel like that has even more to say about who she’s becoming and her agency etc. etc. anyway I LOVE THIS MOVIE. one of the only times that I loved the book and the movie and they’re nothing alike.

I personally hated this movie because it was so far from the incredible book. I can't imagine taking a popular book that people love and thinking, "Hmmm, because it's so popular let's make a movie for the fans...but change virtually everything about it. That will make them happy!"

I would have probably loved this movie had it been an original work. But the fact it was an “in name only” adaptation of one of my favorite books of all time *completely* ruined it for me. I adored Hugh, Anne, and Cary, but even they couldn’t make me forgive the writers. I still feel cheated that we never got a true adaptation. Only this farce!
she starts with disliking him due to her thinking he doesn't care about his people and just likes being famous, "enemies" in enemies to lovers is never usually actual enemies i think if someone is your enemy then they must have done something awful to become that and people wouldn't think thats is cute/romantic, most of this trope is just people with misconceptions or a misunderstanding that gets resolved by talking to each other, but yeah really the only trait of an enemy that is present is hostility which again is resolved after they talk to each other
the fact that they got carey elwes to play edgar will always make me love this movie because he was westley in princess bride 😭
