Matakustix, Molly & the Men and a massive crowd @ Wörthersee-Ostbucht - not exactly "Irish Folk" in the sense of the word, but an exceptional shanty celebration! :-D
"What Shall We Do with the Drunken Sailor?" has most likely been a part of naval life since Napoleonic days and had become widely known and sung by 1900 in every possible context.
It is argued that the shanty stems from the older Irish folk song "Óró sé do bheatha abhaile" with wich it shares not only the chord progression but also other characteristics like the repetition of a single chorus line after interchangeable verse lines.
Countless interprets have over generations published countless variations of the "Sailor" so that there are now dozends of verses in use and no "correct" version could ever be determined any more...
"Matakustix" & "Molly & the Men" re-used their interpretation from an earlier "Matakustix Show" @ Messehalle Klagenfurt and combined it with the "Mollies"' classic "Drowsy Maggie" reel for some extra good times... ;-)
