Best tip I would add is using a gorilla cart, the one with the lever that can dump dirt out. 4 wheels vs 2 wheeler adds serious stability and maneuverability. Great video, yard looks wonderful

Regarding 90 degree corners, I couldn't find those corner adapters anywhere near me, so what I did was take an x-acto knife, and cut a roughly 40 degree triangular section from the inside curve of the circular top portion of the edging. After doing that, I bent the edging, and the two edges made from my cut connected as a result of the fold, which left me with a seamless 90 degree corner.
Perked up hearing the Menards reference. I grew up in rural Illinois but live in Northern Alberta now. Wishing I'd seen this earlier since I just finished an impromptu edging and mulching job for my girlfriend's parents. Could have came out better but they approved so I'll take the win 😂

I am a senior and did almost the same as you, however, I didnt know about landscape stake, so I am going to see if I can get them here in Canada. My problem was the ground was hard and getting it the same height was difficult for me.

Good video. One additional point is to always use weed barrier fabric under the mulch. I recommend sprinkling soil with Round-up before placing the weed barrier. It will keep your garden clean of weeds for many years.
If you buy landscape edging that comes in a roll, the quality is not there. High grade quality edging cannot be rolled. You buy it flat because the material is thick. If you do buy that "edging in a box" so to speak, you'll be doing it over and over again because it will pop up. That's why people say they don't like landscape edging; because they see it at other people's homes, uncurled, sticking up, cut by the lawn mower, and grass growing up over it, and tree roots popping it up out of the ground. That curled edging is a homeowner's nitemare about to happen. But go ahead, and buy that stuff if that's all you can find, or just not buy it, and continue to cut a natural edge into the soil.And while I'm on the subject, don't buy that metal edging either, because it too has a smoothe wall, and the metal stakes are pounded straight into the ground, and in time it works its way back up from the ground, and also becomes worthless. Go to a professional landscape supply location, and buy high quality landscape edging. Around Michigan, there is Site One which is the old John Deere Landscape Supply houses as one possibility to acquire qulaity edging. I've been in the landscape design/build industry for 37 years now, and the edging that I use stays in the ground, on some projects going on 20+ years. And never instal edging around trees as the treeroots will eventually find that edging as the roots expand and will pop it up, and you may cause the roots to grow in a cicular fashion as the roots hit the edging and grow in a circle rather than expand out. Sorry for such a long message, but don't waste your time or money unless you buy professional grade products. THUMBS UP for effort.
Any edging that is higher than the grass is going to be subject to lawn mower or strimmer damage. That was the first thing I thought about when I looked into this. Best edging method I can see is to cut the soil and make sure the grass edge side is higher than the side it is next to.
nice video - quick question b/c I'm in the middle of doing this exact project: when connecting the two ends of the boarder using the "connector" piece, does the connector piece go the top tube, because it's almost too big to fit? Or does it clamp down on the outside top of the edging, like a "c" clamp? I was able to get the connector to fit by hammering it a bit in on itself, but I'm not sure if that was the right way to do it. Thanks.
Hi Sara, thank you for watching and the comment. My corner piece fit inside the top tube on each end. Mine was a tight fit, as well. Didn't have to hammer it or anything, but it was definitely very snug. If you're connecting two straight pieces together, you can take a pair of channel lock pliers and pinch the connector together to get it to slide into the tube easier. Best of luck on your project!
Nice. So you're driving the stakes through the edging, correct? Resting the bed sounds nice, but the soil isn't going to be any different "for the plant" that 2nd year vs planting immediately. Yes the soil will be better, but that will happen regardless and that extra year of growth is pretty valuable. Also look around your property (and your families) and you can fix a lot of bald-ish spots easily with that sod. Or kill off a heavily weeded area and reclaim it with sod. Got a low, wet spot? Put in some vertical drains (post holes filled with gravel, and build up the area with the sod. Endless uses for sod. :)

Yea I need this edging to separate my grass from the neighbors. The landscapers I had put up no edge edging and its terrible. Its moving all around and in the way of the sprinklers
That's a good question. I don't think I would use it for that purpose. It will stop grass from growing into a mulch bed, but water is still going to be able to go under or over it. Thanks for watching.
Thanks brother! As far as weed fabric goes, you don't need it. You want to go with a good thick layer of mulch - about 3". Fabric will prevent nutrients from getting into your soil and will eventually let weeds through anyway and become a big hassle. I use weed fabric if I'm not planting anything in the area, like if you were laying down river rock or something like that. Good luck with your project - I'm sure it will turn out great!

So many of these videos are done where there aren't many rocks. Where I live there are rocks every few inches. There's almost as many rocks as there is dirt. It's murder!
All these edging vids are flat, easily accessible areas im out here on extreme, uneven angles with trees above so i cant even access the area, huge roots running thru the "line" she wants. 😢 Misses running me ragged

I like stone, pavers, textured concrete which looks beautiful and can last many, many years if installed correctly. I don't like metal, rubber, plastic, composites.... for a variety of reasons. In my experience you can't beat the beauty and durability of stone type products.@@DadBuiltDIY
@jessemartinez2606 it really comes down to preference. Some people like the look and durability of a more solid material like stone. I've had good experiences with this edging - but no matter what material you choose, the quality of your install matters most. The mulch is supposed to be your weed barrier, buddy. Not to mention it feeds the soil. Plenty of articles and videos explain the nonsense of landscape paper under mulch.

I mow for a living. Don't use this crap. Every year that it is the ground it becomes more wavy and you still have to edge it with a trimmer. It has no purpose. It is just a "honey look what I did" homeowner solution. I edge every mow and keep it sharp.

Using a moon shovel to cut a sharp edge in grass and there is no need to have plastic or any barrier. My favorite way to edge! Looks cleeeeen that way

I like stone, pavers, textured concrete which looks beautiful and can last many, many years if installed correctly. I don't like metal, rubber, plastic, composites.... for a variety of reasons. In my experience you can't beat the beauty and durability of stone type products.@@DadBuiltDIY

@jessemartinez2606 it really comes down to preference. Some people like the look and durability of a more solid material like stone. I've had good experiences with this edging - but no matter what material you choose, the quality of your install matters most. Badly installed edging is going to look like garbage, no matter what material it is. That's one of the reasons I made this video! Thank you for watching.
Weed barrier, buddy.

The mulch is supposed to be your weed barrier, buddy. Not to mention it feeds the soil. Plenty of articles and videos explain the nonsense of landscape paper under mulch.
With mulch no weed barrier is needed. If you’re going with rock I’d suggest a weed barrier.
Nah the straight lines are wavy. Can’t do it, looks amateur when the straights are wavy. Better to go with a rigid edging or natural edge

@@DadBuiltDIY sure thing. I admire the effort.. the results just never come out right with edging like this. I’ve tried it myself, staked every 12 inches and the tops are still wavy on the straights.

I mow for a living. Don't use this crap. Every year that it is the ground it becomes more wavy and you still have to edge it with a trimmer. It has no purpose. It is just a "honey look what I did" homeowner solution. I edge every mow and keep it sharp.
