    *_I love it when you do a video with your 200 Watt FT DX 101MP. Not boring at all! That is the latest and greatest (some say) Ham Radio to date with the 3D waterfall. Nice to see all the noise reduction from the VC tune and the DNR show up in the waterfall. That is quite dramatic. Watching your videos of these great rigs is the next best thing to sitting down and running the radio yourself. Please stay safe and take care of yourself post surgery. I don't want to live in a world without Brenton Meadows. And there is no such thing is too many videos on the FT DX 101MP!_*

    I'm thinking of returning to HF radio, I gave up radio about 10 years ago as the QRM at my QTH was 9+ 24/7, and bought a boat. A friend of mine loaned me a very basic retro TS-680s (thanks Karl VK4FBAM) and I threw up a endfed dipole and was listening to lasts night FUTW net on 80m, and although the band was noisy by using the IF SHIFT and the backing down the RF GAIN and was able to knock out a heck of a lot of noise and was able to hear most stations, I was actually pretty impressed with what a old radio could do using the the basic controls, I'm thinking now I might buy a new IC-7300 and will use it at home and on the boat, thanks for the videos Brenton, I really enjoy all of them, cheers, Ian 'Yobbo' VK4NFL

      Well welcome back to the hobby, and yes, last night was an extremely shocking night noise-wise which we have not seen this bad for a very long time. The IC7300 is a great choice as its midrange cost, very good performance, and covers everything you want to do for sure. The old TS680s would have struggled to hear last night but glad you backed the RF gain off, its the only way on the 680 to get better reception with such noisy conditions last night. We struggled with some very high tech gear haha.... Keep enjoying the hobby and feel free to pop on the net every Friday night at 8pm on 3.655 Mhz. cheers Brenton VK3CM

    Try backing off RF gain to around 1-2 o'clock and enable DNR and go through each setting from 1-15 as they are different algorithms and not levels, until you find one you like. Then use VC Tune for fine adjustments. This radio is incredibly quiet using this method.

    Have had mine two days, Rig far exceeds my expectations !!! General Coverage Shortwave AM is the best I've ever seen in 30 plus years of radio. While bandpass filtering is fixed and nothing to dittle with... it's pure perfection ! Legible beyond comprehension by all previous standards in radios at it's price range and lower. Operation?? like playing a piano... a mouse in one hand and the VFO and controls in the other. Forget hitting it out of the park... Yaesu hit it far into the above and beyond with the 101MP. It will stomp any QRM in the book; right into the dirt of the Earth! Expensive... but; Wow !

      @@juliennervo1224 I don't think so, think the VC Tune is only in ham bands. Radio started out great, sense... I've had nothing but problems with the radio, Yaesu has had the radio twice for repairs and I've had nothing but problems with it. VC Tune stepper motors burned up then the second time VC encoder memory failure. Lot of money for Problems... sold to a ham who lives within 60 miles of service center with Full Disclosure and Yaesu shipped my radio directly to him. I lost a lot of money on that Rig for a very short time of ownership. Wish I would have never purchased.

    I could have done with that radio last night. It’s was overmodulated Indonesian voice all over the CW bottom 50KHz of 40m. So many near contacts into the US and JA but QSB and QRM made it impossible for anything save a scratchy RST . It was busy enough for those voice stations to head down below 7MHz into the 6.6-6.9MHz Echo Charley band

    Hi Brenton, A great video just a quick question I put my 101MP into a dummy load @ 200watts and showed 300 watts output in the dummy load. Have you seen or heard of this? from what I have found on the net (2 x VRF150 MOSFET devices (VDSS=170V, PD=300W) operating at 50Vlts) this could be true. any thoughts

    Hi Brenton, if you had to choose between the 101d and the Icom 7610 which would you pick? 73 Glenn

    • @brentonmeadowsvk3cm
      @brentonmeadowsvk3cm  4 года назад

      Oh boy, that's a hard one as the correct answer is to buy both haha....I'm a big 7610 fan, also owning an IC7850 makes me somewhat a bit biased, but the 7610 to me represents far better value for money. When they were $3899, what a bargain, now at $4500 or so, much closer to a 101 price. I think the answer is that I would take the 101 over the 7610 for now, but its such a fine line between the two, and the fact the 7610 needs no extra $500 boxes for remote rsba1 usage, the 7610 is still highly up there. You are definitely paying a premium to buy the 101, the 7610, still the better price value for sure. So I have gone back and forth not his so much, It is probably confusing, but both radios are superb for sure. Great to hear from You Glenn, I hope life is treating you well buddy, Cheer Brenton VK3CM

      Andrew,YES ,it will go from 1K to 1000K in the 3 modes of FIX/CENTER/CURSOR in the SPAN Mode.......I use the CURSOR so I can eliminate the QRM's by locking the Main or Sub VFO's while using the larger Back 2nd.VFO of the VCU Tune and really eliminate more qrm's or noise's.....
