CLIMBING TRYFAN | Working on my Fear Of Heights & Mountain Scrambling | Heather Terrace Route

- I absolutely loved this ascent of Tryfan :D Hopefully this gives you an idea of what the Heather Terrace route is like. What an amazing mountain, so much fun, loads of scrambling with a lil walk here & there. I can’t believe how much more comfortable I am with heights & exposure than I was on Watkins, it seems my fear of heights is diminishing, slowly :) Maybe I'll get up on that north ridge one day 😬
Ps. Apologies if I'm pronouncing Tryfan wrong, which I almost certainly am. Also sorry about my plait flapping all over the place, that's annoying as hell isn't it haha!

Hello Wild Ones! Thanks for stopping by this lil Tryfan viddy, I’m so pleased how my fear of heights is gradually improving :D If you have any suggestions for routes in England or Wales that are good to work on fear of heights & exposure (but not as severe as Crib Gogh or Tryfan North Ridge - not ready for these yet 😄), please stick them below, thankies! See you next week for a fun overnighter in the woods :D have a great eve! Claire 🌿🐻
Hi Claire, Bassenthwaite village to Skiddaw in the Lakes. It’s mostly solid on the way up with paths but, if you want, there is scree scrambling if you traverse the peak to build up ‘resilience’ 😀
Striding Edge, Helvellyn or Halls Fell Ridge, Blencathra 👍
Claire, book yourself a couple of nights in the Black Sail hut in Ennerdale, and do the high level route to Pillar Rock. (Then up onto Pillar itself, then back down to the hut the easy (and obvious) way. You have to find the entrance to the route by a cairn, but there's nothing desperate, just a tiny bit of exposure and sensational views...Black Sail is one of my favourite places on the planet - try it soon.😁👌
Hi again Claire...A good approach to Black sail is from Honister Hause - you have the choice of taking in Grey Knotts, Brandreth, Green Gable, Great Gable, then down to the hut for your first night...two great days walking with the high level route next day. Shout if you have questions...😁
Tryfan is cool mountain. You can find nice climbings and you can go mad, but I imagine it can be dangerous. I was lucky. Thanks for video!
nice lone wife dances with wolves
Well done Claire you should feel very proud. Great achievement 👏👌🙂
Beautiful countryside Ms. Claire!!!😎 Thank you
I'm scared of heights and being alone in the wild. Thank you for taking me outdoors with your videos. May you always be safe. 🙏
Absolutely tremendous adventure, the drone footage was amazing and pushing through your fear of heights..bravo!
Thank you for taking us on an other beautiful hike! The look on you face when you made it to the top had me also celebrating with you.
Aren’t Claire’s videos just so well shot, and edited plus the cool quirky, and sometimes dreamscape soundtrack. With all that’s went on in world these adventures are a real tonic! So enjoyable good for you C ☮️☮️✌🏻✌🏻
Aw thank you Tony, glad you enjoy them :) ♥
@@WildBeare your very welcome Claire ☮️☮️✌🏻✌🏻
I was holding my breath as you neared the Summit - and cheering you on !!
The genuine look of delight on your face when you arrived was worth all the Clogau gold still left in Wales :)
You are a great tourist ambassador for our little country and an inspiration to many.......
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I grew up in Betws-y-coed and the mountains of snowdonia where my childhood playground. I think I must have been 15 when I cycled from Betws walked up tryfan and then cycled back home again. It was an epic day out.
I've been binge watching you all day on my TV. Solo on tryfan has earned my respect. We all fall on our arse, figuratively and literally x
You are truly amazing!! I love your videos. You understand what mountaineering is all about and have a deep appreciation for nature. Wonderful photography! My father was a mountaineer and professional photographer. I miss him so much. Keep doing what you are doing. I get a lot of peace, hope and inspiration from your videos. Thank you!
Beautiful climb, beautiful mountain. Thanks for taking us with you.
Hi WildBeare, Brought back memories of me wild camping on top of Tryfan, in Jan. Frozen Mars Bars thrown into a stew to melt em lol. Great times Adam n Eve is a jump for those with good joints lol Well done love your videos.
It’s awesome that you can read a map and use it to know your location. Most people can’t do that. Your fantastic love watching your adventures
Bloody amazing achievement...and photography was epic as was drone footage x
Aw thank you Tracey ❤ It's amazing how fast your confidence grows as you keep doing them :D
You take us to such beautiful countryside but even with all that stunning scenery I can’t help watching you. What a monumental achievement, well done.
Amazing adventure and a great personal achievement Claire. Thank you for sharing. The smile on your face when you achieved your goal was priceless :)
You are truly inspiring. Thank you for sharing your Journey on here for us all to see and appreciate. Your making me want to take on my fear of heights just watching you. You are amazing. Lots of love and respect to you wild one ☝🏾 ❤️❤️
Gorgeous scenery. Glad you made it up and down safely. Looking forward to your next adventure...
Fantastic effort Claire, well done you as that cannot have been easy for you. Your videos are truly inspiring you should be very proud of yourself, the smile on your face just says it all. Well done and have a lovely week, can’t wait for the next one 👏🏻👍🏻
You have come far...I remember your first ever solo wildcamp, and now you are single handedly tackling mountains (sort of). :)
Thanks for sharing and keep on doing what you love.
Hey Claire well done on this milestone. Loving your adventures 🌲👍
So proud of you! What a great achievement reaching the top, in spite of your fears. Well done, Claire!
Brilliant achievement Claire. Another mountain conquered. And another fear well and truly beaten. Well done.
Wow, that looks like some challenge. Well done for powering through, even when you doubted yourself. Another enjoyable video.
Thanks Shaun :) yeh I wasn't expecting to make the summit on this one so was a nice feeling
You are so much fun to watch. I really enjoy watching your adventures. It gives me the itch to go out and experience some of my own.
Loved all of that, hats off Claire. Pushing yourself with every trip
Thanks Nobby! Loved it 😍 Hope you're good :)
Keep strong and your journey is still more to come, bless you and be safe !!!
Awesome Claire! Congrats on your achievement! It was great fun following along! Thanks for sharing!
Great job, brought back wonderful memories of crazy days on Tryfan, one of my all time favourite mountains. I've done most routes several times, and the best IMHO is the north ridge, although you need to be confident with heights and route finding on very steep scrambly ground. My daughter and I last did it a couple of years ago when she was only 16, and it was an epic day for the ages, with memories to last a lifetime, we'll definitely be back !
Living, climbing, and camping vicariously through you Claire. Thank you from South Africa!
What a beautiful and difficult climb! It must have been exhilarating and I thank you for sharing it with us.
Hooray! Congratulations on your successful climb, Claire! What a great achievement! I'm so glad you made it "there and back again" safely. Thank you for sharing the beautiful videography and good, positive thoughts with all of us. You do a wonderful job. Looking forward to the next one(s)! Rest well and sweet dreams! :)
Hi Russell, ahh thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it :) same to you too!
Great video, really makes me want to pack my bag and go. Sadly not this year, other things planned, but hopefully next year. You are so brave and inspirational. Love watching your adventures, you make it feel like we are there. Thanks again.
Such an amazing, capable woman. You brighten a lot of people’s days!
Absoluting stunning Claire! What a view!!! I felt a bit nervous there for you a couple times. Thank you so much for sharing! Just stay safe out there!
It is great to see the growing range of memories you are harvesting. The huge glow of pleasure claiming your face as you harvest them is a treat. They will form a great catalogue of memories, achievements and even comforts somewhere in your future. Enjoy these times they are priceless.
Ah thank you so much, I'm very grateful that I get to do these things, and hope others get to do them too, there really is nothing like it ♥
Brilliant thanks for sharing.
Looking forward to seeing your next adventure
Another fab video! I love this beast of a mountain! also loving that there seems to always be a new vid out to watch ✌🗻💚Take care!
I’ve really been enjoying your videos !! Thanks for another wonderful job putting this together … stay safe and take care !! Fantastic job with the elevation …
Wow that was an impressive climb, you did well! Lovely filming as usual 😊
I’m watching this after yesterday doing the Tryfan, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach circular.
Watching you climb reminded me of some of the route I took!
Thanks for all the videos my wife and I really enjoy them👍
Wow brilliant video footage as always you make taking videos and walking looks so easy as if you have a camera crew with you. The drone footage really does show that peak and how open and dangerous it looks. Thanks for showing us how beautiful these places are.
Thankyou, I love your videos. You are an amazing lady. Your persona is so calming and your camera work is beautiful. I thoroughly enjoy each episode. Thankyou.
Fab video Claire, some stunning scenery as always on your videos !
Great pair of videos, really enjoyed. Brought back lots of memories, climbed it as a kid, loved it.
I did Tryfan 32 years ago with my then 14 year old daughter, who now 46 and I was then 38. Awesome! Great video Claire, keep them coming.
Lovely video, genuinely feel happier after watching your channel. I love meeting and chatting with mountain folk. I had two days in the Ogwen valley myself last week and on one of the days did a scrambling day with Steve from Anelu Aim Higher which was very useful and definitely feel more confident on routes I wouldn’t have attempted before even though I’ve been going to the mountains for many years would highly recommend.
Hi Claire, thanks for another great video, please keep making them! It's very inspirational, wish we had those kinds of mountains here in Holland!
Well done Clare! Your a brave lass 😁 thanks for sharing your day. Take care
Hi Claire, you never fail to make me smile. I'm definitely going to get myself a tent and do some "exploring" in my local areas of the South Downs. Thanks for the inspiration to get off my arse .😂
It is such fun to watch you grow in confidence and ambition as you rise to the challenges of your surroundings! That must have been a great workout: when a chest cam features arms and legs in close proximity, you know there was some serious scrambling in places. 😜
Ahh thank you :) haha there was indeed! Great fun :D
Well done claire and you managed it with your camera equipment just amazing you must be soooo proud. Thank you for sharing looking forward to your next adventure 😀.
A great scramble with some jeopardy thrown in. And you really captured the beautiful scenery. I guess those shorts have seen their last adventure! Thanks for sharing.
OMG I was roughing for you all the way.well done a big achievement getting to the top and overcoming your fear .you are a very brave young woman.
Ahh thank you, I was pleased to get up this one, didn't think I would haha
You did fantastically well! What a sense of achievement you must have felt! If I had attempted that (not that I would be able to!) I'd have been so worried going up about coming down!
You are such a wonderful lady and have so much confidence in yourself. Keep doing what you do and enjoy the wonderful adventures you travel to
As always loving your vids. Love tryfan and surrounding areas camped and hiked there many times.
I remember climbing this in 1993? This brought back some memories as you pretty much took the same route. There was about 30 people on the summit when I eventually got there waiting to jump across Adam and Eve. As I was looking around the SAR helicopter came around and flew BELOW me. I was crapping myself. I've never felt so relieved to get down a mountain. Well done!
As always, a pleasure to watch your videos. 👍
Congratulations, Claire!...well done :) Looks like a beautiful scramble...would love to visit it someday.
I've watched a few of your videos of late and am feeling ever more compelled to gear up and get myself out there. I didn't realise how my fear of heights has worsened over the years, having an anxiety attack driving over the Severn bridge clued me up on that. Thanks for the encouragement. Keep safe. 😊
Wow, looks like fun. Thank you for sharing the climb with us!
It was great fun :D thanks for watching!
Great video as usual😃👍..looked a bit more sketchie than what i thought that route would look., pretty knarly! Great camera work and soundtrack too, love it! 🎶Can see clearly now, that it's a drone🎶..your smile makes everybody else smile😁🤘top job🤘
What a seriously stunning video and achievement. Well done Claire!! (You must be stark raving bonkers!!) I couldn't do it. But again, fantastic footage and determination.
Wow, what an accomplishment! Something to be really proud of. Congratulations! Beautiful scenery. Thanks for sharing the journey.
Magic .... love the aerial shots too 🦋
Fantastic video filmed so good Clair lovely music as well should be proud of yourself for doing that look forward to the next one
Hey Claire - thanks for the shout out! Loved the video - it must have been a lot of work but well worth it. It's so easy to get lost on these rocky slopes as the paths are not always obvious. I am psyching myself up for Crib Goch next time. I reckon you could do it too. :)
Well done Claire. A brilliant effort.
You have come on such a lot since I first saw you venture out.
Proud of you girl xx
Ahh thanks so much Keith ♥ have a lovely eve!
@@WildBeare . . Cheers Claire. and you to love. Stay safe xx
I’ve only just found this video. It was spectacular! I was slightly relieved to see other people nearby though. It definitely looked a bit ‘sketchy’ to do totally alone. Glad you enjoyed it, and that you made it back (almost) unscathed. Thanks for sharing.
Loved watching your two videos camping and climbing by Tryfan. Well done . ❤
I have acrophobia and the first person shots were pretty scary, but exciting, if that's the right word of it. I was genuinely nervous. 😁 I was glad to see you had company too. I also have to say I was impressed with all the work you had to do to set up the static camera shots on the side of a mountain! The views were fantastic though. Wales is a beautiful country. Very cool video.
Awesome video Claire, have been looking forward to this upload, and it didn't disappoint. But yeh, you hit the nail on the head with regards 'confidence building', because that's what it's all about!! Whilst you may be physically capable, the crux of mountains such as this is getting your head in the game with regards exposure and the fear of the unknown, and that only comes from experience, getting out there and just doing it. So a massive well done on facing your fears and tackling this mountain head-on, great job :-)
Would love to see what you made of our Scottish summits, particularly around Torridon, Assynt and Glencoe. If you do hopefully venture north of the border at some point, and have any questions regarding route-finding, travel or infrastructure, feel free to give me a shout and I can hopefully answer any queries (152 Munro's and counting)!
Keep up the excellent work, and already really looking forward to your next video :-)
Its nice to see the dads out with their sons. Weve done that. Hiking, birdwatching, camping. The troopcarrier in my profile photo took us on many adventures. Im pleased to say that all 4 of my kids (now adults) love adventure as a result. Re heights- youre one of the few that can film heights and it made me squirm a fraction over my breakfast coffee lol.
Love this, fabulous adventure and mountain and you captured well xx 🥰go girl
Looked forward to this part 2, great production and pleased to know I’m not the only one to wander off track. Lake District - Jacks Rake, Striding Edge, Sharp Edge, Lords Rake. I’m now old enough either to know better or foolish enough to try them again. In your teens and twenties you are both ignorant of risk and invincible. Enjoy or avoid.
Well done Claire, rocking those shorts 😉 adding colour to the mountain . Coming down always seems more precarious than going up. Stay safe out there.
Haha thanks Darrell, yes mountain rescue would have no problem finding me would they 😄
Well done Claire your vids are just getting better by the week...
Good work on completing that route. My friends go straight up North Ridge but they realised I don't deal with exposure due to my fear of heights.
The route you came down was my first time up but I needed a few Recon hikes to the lake for a proper view of the scramble up South Ridge.
All the while I was trekking around to get used to the openness of the scenery while climbing Snowden via different routes. Like you said "us southerners are not used to heights "
Just got a new phone & found a picture of Tryfan's Heather Terrace & saved to my homescreen. Best memories of the first time I saw the mountain driving through the Ogwen Valley, "one day, oh yes, one day "
What a beautiful trek!
Amazing that you got your B rolls up that high! Thank you!
Brilliant walk. Thanks SO much. One for me list this year for sure 👍☸🥾😻
Even off trail, so gorgeous and beautiful!!! Kuddoes to you Claire!!
Always a joy to see your clips.
I love everything about what you do we need more people like this exploring and enjoying nature these mountains ⛰ are beautiful an I will go and have a visit. keep on hiking!!! 😃👍
Wow. Fantastic achievement 👏 and as others have said your camera work is awesome 😎. Having a binge watch of your videos today 😊 take care.
Awesome video as always! Absolutely love tryfan it’s one of my favourite mountains! Be proud of ya self for doing this and working on your fear!
I’ve always had no fear… then having my little girl have put some fear in me or maybe it was doing doleman ridge 5/6 weeks after my second heart surgery last year 😅
Keep up the great content and keep being safe ❤
Hi Claire. Another couple of great videos. Your are gaining the respect of hight and your abilities, never push it further than uncomfortable.
Love your channel, you come across as such a spiritual person which is so refreshing these days! Well done on this climb! Try Helvelyn in the lakes sometime you will love it x
Massive well done! That can't of been easy, I had a touch of vertigo just watching 🤣 brilliant video, beautifully shot, absolutely loved it! X
Hii, thanks so much, it was a bit of a challenge but I was a lot better with the height & exposure than I was on Snowdon Watkin, so hopefully I'm improving a bit :D glad you enjoyed it & thanks for watching :) ♥
@@WildBeare You're so welcome! I thought you did amazing 👏 I watched your Snowdonia adventure aswell and was really inspired to go on an adventure! I was so with you when you reached the summit 💪You channel is brilliant, I look forward to seeing your future adventures! X
Thanks for taking us along!
Well done! I can sympathise with your fear as I climbed the north ridge of Tryfan at the weekend with my heart in my throat for much of the climb, also with a fear of heights: climbing up a ladder does me in, so this was a big deal - but I loved it. Great video!
😀 Wow Well Done Claire Bear, I am so proud of you. I too had a massive fear of heights up until I conquered Table Mountain here in my back yard in Cape Town, South Africa 3 years ago. Now I hike every single month in the mountains and enjoy scrambling and no dizziness nor fear. 👍
Ahh thanks, I was pleased, didn't think I'd get all the way up this one 😄 Table mountain looks so amazing! That's so good to hear that you beat the fear, I can feel mine improving each time, crazy how fast it's improving actually :)
@@WildBeare Well Done, took me about 2 years, now I am very confident and no longer get the dizzy spells in the mountains
You are making some fantastic videos . I really enjoying them.
Hi Claire. first comment. Got to be said.
With full respect. Hats off to you and well done
Absolutely fantastic. Love your videos and take on life
Been with you from day 1. Thanks for taking us
With you on your adventures. Stay safe. Old dave (Sunderland)
Well done WB! That was amazing, never walked in Wales before but you've got me switched on now
Thanks Terry! Ooooh yeh you should, it's amazing! ♥
WOW, you young lady are one brave woman. That looked so hard, I was willing you on and thinking please don't slip lol. It looked so treacherous with those steep slopes. A huge well done to you Claire. X
Ah thank you Adrian, it was a testing one but I loved it :D deffo feeling more confident with height & exposure now, hopefully it'll keep improving 🤞
Such a great film and loved watching it …..you’re an inspiration and I’m so glad you didn’t come back down the same way 😅 Look forward to your next adventure 💪🏼💪🏼
Thanks Robin, mmm I heard the Heather Terrace was the least hard way but I'd say going down the south was deffo the easier route! Thanks for watching & have a lovely eve :)
I also have a fear of heights but your videos helped me to understand how to beat my fear a little bit :)
Hopefully, this summer, I will be able to climb mountains, just like you, Claire :)
Have a safe journey back home :)
Absolutely amazing wildbeare, brill video, hats of to you 👍👍
Awesome stuff Claire...Tryfan's got to rate as one of the best and varied mountains out there. And you did it! Onwards and upwards ;)
Hi Stu, thank you, yep deffo an awesome lil mountain isn't it, I loved it :D
