One of the things you need for people to get involved in conservation is a little optimism. It was brought to my attention that anyone under 40 has grown up being relentlessly told that the world was coming to an end soon due to human activities. I guess this strategy was to get people to change behaviors but it's resulted in many people having a negative outlook on the future in general. Who's going to work to increase game numbers 20 years from now when the world ends in 10?

    • @RonSpomerOutdoors-Podcast

Good point, Tim. Various humans have been predicting the end of the world in ten years for at least the past 2,000. We won't destroy planet Earth, but we're certainly on track to convert most of it to humans and our few domestic crops and animals. Young people not only can alter this trajectory, but must. Rather than wring their hands and seek safe spaces, they should roll up their sleeves and get to work. Wildlife and wild places need to be our safe spaces!

This isn’t the conversation I was expecting to hear between these hunting legends but it is SO welcome. At some point very powerful interests made conservation a dirty word but it is absolutely critical if we’re going to continue enjoying public land hunts. NO ONE is immune to propaganda, so if you reflexively ignore conservation initiatives it’s worth taking a second to ask yourself why.

Randy is correct as it took me 3 years to get a Law passed in Iowa to help our ground nesting birds and surprised me was how some Conservation Groups really need to be coaxed into backing it since it was not there idea.

My brother n law hunts public land, he found a piece of land that's land locked and hard to access, there's one guy that has a stand about 400-500 yards from where he sits, he gets a good sized deer every year, sometimes two deer, get out the land plots and study them and scout them out, unfortunately this takes a lot of time and it's public land so things can change every year, stay strong and pray for America

Excellent conversation very good topic and very educational.. Definitely a very important subject that is being overlooked if we don’t take care of our resources a few years from now there would be no game to hunt and if it is the cost would be tremendous. Guys like you and meat eater do a great job putting the information out but we need more people involved. Thanks for the info 👍🏽

If you want young people to get into hunting and more of them, this is how they're going to do it. They've been raised with phones in their hands. That's the only way they know how to get information, and it's not necessarily bad. Seeing how fast-paced life is now, I don't have time to go around talking to people. I have a full-time job and other activities I'm interested in.

Public land hunters are done putting in the hard work to just let someone who does literally nothing, finacially or anything else to help, and take the game that you and or others who worked so hard to harvest. This needs to change, or else it will die off.

Well I am happy to live in Bosnia and Herzegownia, we have a lot of forests and very small population of people. Everyone has a gun, legal or illegal it doesn't matter, because those people who have a gun illegal they are not interested about hunting anyway, they just have a guns because of the war in the 90s... So every hunter has usually everything what he needs. We have hunting shops and all that stuffs, I can allways get a hunting license even for free if I want to and I can go whereever I want, so I think that is nice thing about my land. We usually hunt wild boars with dogs, but I like be on a treestand also. We have enough roebucks, rabbits, wild boars, wolves, brown bears even a big red deers in some areas. Pheasant hunting is also very popular so I can't complain about anything. Sorry because of my writting, my english is not so good.

Apathy is our greatest concern. I see this in the marine fishing sector, where participation in the regulatory side of issues has little interest, but mention a tuna sighting and the boards lite up. People want to talk about gear and animals/fish/birds etc, but won't give conservation or regulatory issues a glance. Try as you will, you can't change apathy...that is a personal choice and I don't see that changing without some drastic impulse that hits them in the face. By then, usually its too late...history repeats itself.

You asked him his preference of firearms/calibers, but you didn't ask him his preference in bullets. All he mentioned was high quality bullets. That is a pretty broad spectrum. Or did you figure that was too close to opening "pandoras' box"?

Responding to your conversation past the 30 minute mark.
Humans today are inundated with rapid reward processing within entertainment that creates a seretonin or dopamine imbalance. This is why videos like conservation dont get as many views (I was one of the few people who did watch Randy's video about the water holes). But in order to get more people's attention, the smart people must adapt to the lame.
I think most people dont put effort into conservation because they dont reap the reward they ultimately desire. Why would people go spend the little time they get off work to go work someplace so someone else can draw a tag?
Well, for starters the nation could switch to a 4 day (10 hr shifts) work week. An extra day to go help conservation appeared from thin air! But the biggest thing is selfishness. Selfishness is an organic human trait.
I genuinely feel if we need to turn the tables in favor of conservation then we need to reward the people who go out and do it. Maybe it's giving them an extra point, or maybe having a draw specifically for people who put in enough documented hours of conservation in every year.
Either way, people work for the fruits of their labor and if theirs no fruit when the labor is put in then people tend to give up.

Going back to premium ammo deal I have browning BBR and best accuracy
I have with it is Remington core lokt 130gr 270win it’s 3 shot group at 100 .5 moa or less with cheap 3-9x32mm banner bushnell but it’s just so dead accurate I don’t shoot high end ammo bc gives me no benefits at all gmx Hornadys don’t shoot better sst nope elds nope nosler nope so It should be shoot what’s best in ur rifle if it’s 20$ a box or 120$ a box shoot what shoots best in ur rifle with right bullet selection

    • @RonSpomerOutdoors-Podcast
      @RonSpomerOutdoors-Podcast  Год назад +1

Absolutely shoot what your rifle groups best with that BIG caveat -- the right bullet selection. A hyper accurate FMJ solid is no where near as good on elk as a 2 MOA Partition or TTSX.
