I am Thai and im impressed that you can cook Thai food very well. It looks so delicious!! and every time i watch you cook it make me smile :) I am a big fan of you :)
Donal Skehan, So happy you're available on youtube and have so many delicious looking recipes. Watching you cook really has inspired me to quit take away food and make my own foods. You really do make cooking look fun, exciting and simple. Thanks so much for the motivation! Keep up the good work!
Hi Donal, I made these a couple of years ago, we all loved them, I haven`t been cooking much since then but since then whenever we have lunch or dinner with friends at Thai Restaurants, we always have a selection of dishes to share on the table..... my choice is always to include - Thai fish cakes...... mmm We had lunch out the other day and once again I found the Thai fish cakes were never as good as your recipe, so thanks, I`m cooking again and your TFC will be on the menu this week.
I made these a couple of months ago, loved them.. decided to make them again for tonite so spent ten minutes on youtube searching for this video, I like to laugh while I cook so didn`t want just any old recipe, well done Donal. As Jerry Reed would say "Love the boy"
This is the most interesting recipe that I have seen posted here all year. I am so excited to try these! Thank you so so much for doing something different and still attainable for a beginner cook! I'm new to this channel and hungry for more!!!
It looks delicious and I love your enthusiasm. You get your audience involved and smiling instead of just blandly pulling things together. Subscribed immediately :)
Great video. You get to the point quickly, no-nonsense, the music is appropriate and not overwhelming, the recipe seems easily attainable by the average Joe. Good job.
Perfect. Thank you so much. This is inspiring. I have been watching so many recipes of fish cakes but none of them fire my eye. And than I saw you. I am. Making this tonight.
I'm not bored while watching your videos because you're lively when you're talking, plus your recipes are amazing... .. Gonna try it at home too.. Thanks Donal! 👌👍😄
Really nicely done recipe. True capturing of the flavors of Thailand. Thank you for showing that good Chef skills translates to excellent food, creatively presented. Keep cooking. Blessings ChefMike
Just returned from a boat fishing trip and I have a lot of Black Bream and Conger Eel. As I am trying to be gluten free, this take on fish cakes is right up my alley. Many thanks. 👍🏻
Thai anything is a sure way to get me to the dinner table on the first call. That was a really quick recipe so it would be perfect for midweek with a nice salad! Thanks so much for your tasty treats.
I love your version of this Thai dish. They look delicious! Just a few things though. This dish we kinda deep fry them and use lot of vegetable oil in a deep and large pan. And make them a little bit thinner so the fish can be cooked through. Love your videos... your viewer from Bangkok, Thailand
I am obsessed with your channel!! The food looks amazing, fresh, and delicious. Loved the episode with your mum. You should include her more often!! :)
Hi Donal, love your channel. I've tried many your recipes. Family and friends are totally loved them. Gonna try this fish cake next time. Looking forward your next dish :)
First of all, I am Thai and I have to admit that this vid is absolutely interesting! Besides, this is the first time seeing foreigner cook Thai food which is awesome! haha :) Moreover, some ingredients (herbs) are missing, but as long as you enjoy it that's all matter! Donal Skehan
:D I love the way you cook - it makes so much fun getting hungrier and hungrier while watching all your amazing recipes turning into delicious meals - happy times. ( I'd love to see your cameraman trying your food out and giving a thumbs up - he deserves it :D )
I'm Thai. Wonderful presentation, you did the dish marvelously :) Let me add something on Thai fish sauce. Good fish sauce should be red-brown to dark brown (depends on the brand) and must be *clear*. If your fish sauce became total black or muddy, then it's been kept for too long, its smell gonna change and could upset your stomach. Shelf life for Thai fish sauce is around 1 year after manufacturing. Once opened, it depends on the temperature and how much it exposed to light.
You're adorable! My mom makes the same kind of fish cakes, but does it the hard way with chopping everything (including the fish into a paste) with her cleaver. Great idea with using the food processor!
Hi Donal. I just watched this again and will make it tonight. I can’t believe that I made that outrageous comment 9 years ago. I must have matured a bit. ❤❤
My mixture seemed a bit too wet, so I ended up coating the fish cakes in bread crumbs. Turned out great and tasted delicious. Family enjoyed them and had instructions to make them again.
Love your exuberance and your recipe which I will definitely be trying out this weekend. I couldn't help wondering why you turned the fishy chopping board over to chop the spring onions when they went straight into the fishcakes anyway, but still enjoyed your demo 100%!
Wow! They look pretty much like the ones my mom used to make (I don't like her new formula as much, but my dad seems to prefer them now and since I don't live with them anymore, well...), although she's vietnamese. Add some chopped shrimps and there you go! Definitely gonna give these a try!
I really love watching you cook - your energy is so infectious! And of course, the food you make looks absolutely delightful! Will definitely try to make some of these soon. (: Much love from Singapore.
those fish cakes look amazing, nice little twist on my favourite dish ever ;) however, one thing that bothred me a little bit: i'd be soo happy if you could remind people not to use overfished kinds of fish (like cod, plaice, etc.) and use more sustainable alternatives like coley for example. there's really no point in exploiting certain kinds of fish even more than they already have been while there are so many great alternatives that taste just as amazing, are a thousand times more sustainable and pretty much half the price at the same time.
You are hilarious... Always such a joy watching your videos =) Thought I share a couple of tips since it's asian food... Remove the seeds from the chillis if you want to lower the heat... And add half a tablespoon of corn starch to your mixture- it helps in tenderizing the fish cakes as well as keeping the mixture together... oh... and Hello from Singapore =)
Donal Skehan And they were actually really good, I liked the combo of aromatic fish cakes and the spicy and sweet aspects of the chili sauce as well as a little squeeze of lime on top for an extra kick! :)
Hi Donal, Great recipe. I think I'll try them as mini-fish-burgers at a party I'm throwing next week. Oh! Chili's I do love them but I did the same thing leaning over the food processor, Garlic, onions and fresh cayenne peppers and Whoa! nearly did me in. It took an hour for me to recover, Dinner was late and so I learned my lesson. Thanks.
Haha what a chic sauce bowl you have! It's actually act as a water cup here in Thailand :) Cute! and the food looks really good. We normally make it quite thin here but that burger like is also looks yummy :)
this sends me back to my childhood time. We have a similar dish in the Philippines,, fishballs or with little tiny shrimpies!! I hope to see some Little Shrimpies recipes here soon :-) i would love to see more creative dishes from you!
but here in Thailand, we do it a bit different. we deep fry those fish cakes instead of pan frying them. Also, we add cucumber to the sweet chili sauce and we eat the fishcakes with fried basil or mint i can't remember ... anyways, watching you did the recipe from my country makes me feel happy. i don't know why but i do, lol
hahahaha I like the way you used that little bowl for the chili sweet sauce! Actually, these little bowls are used to contain just water in Thailand. So creative though:))
I love fish cakes! It it really common in here Korea But the recipe is a little bit different, we use flour. Anyway, that looks amazing thanx for the recipe I will try it:)
