We start right out of the gate with Mando collecting a Bounty, and I don’t think he’s doing it for money. I think he’s doing it for information.
Obviously information on where the armorer is. So Mando pulls up, does the whole I can bring you in warm or I can bring you in cold thing which was epic to hear, and he takes them out not with his blasters but with the freaking dark sober. So he still has it and didn’t give it up to Bo Katan. I wonder how she left him, because obviously she wanted it and was ready to fight him for it by trial by combat.
Mando fights them but not very well. It’s obvious he doesn’t know how to use the dark saber mainly due to its weight. The sober is an ancient weapon, not like a typical lightsaber. It obviously holds different properties that regular lightsabers don’t possess, perhaps the crystal has dark matter like a viewer mentioned during the watch party, perhaps it requires one to learn how to use it by becoming one with the blade, either way, we know he has trouble using the blade, and I think he’s going to get help from Luke Skywalker in the next episode on how to fight with a lightsaber. A scene, I think we all want to see.
Din takes them out, and he leaves with the head of his bounty. Might I add, this scene was super dark and gruesome, I was surprised it was allowed with Disney and all. I was happy to see some realism with a lightsaber once again. The ring is like the ring from the old republic near Telos. Also it’s like Halo.
Din delivers his bounty and is told the location of the armorer, where we see her in a meditative position. She’s probably the most stoic mandalorian I’ve ever seen.
He gets patched up by Paz Viszla, this is the mandalorian who helped him in season 1 on nevarro. He is a descendant of house Vizsla.
Din shows the dark sober to them ,and the armorer asks to examine it. Giving us a ton of explanations on mandalorian culture and mandalore. We learn the hilt is of a higher grade of beskar which makes me wonder if there are different grades of Beskar, are some better than others? She tells him that the ruler of this blade rules all of Mandalore, nothing new there, but then she explains a character that is so important to mandalorian lore and that’s Tarre Vizsla. He was a mandalorian Jedi and the first to wield this blade 1000 years ago. She also mentions how if one comes to possess this blade without a proper trial by combat, then a curse will be set upon mandalore and its people.
The armorer acknowledges that the Mandalorian has completed his quest of reuniting grogu with his kind and the Jedi, and so she allows him to join her enclave.
We learn Moff Gideon wasn’t killed, but he was sent to the new republic to face trial. His story isn’t done yet, so we’ll probably see him again in mandalorian season 3.
The Armorer tells of the mandalorian who rides the mythosaur who will rise to lead the mandalorians from the songs of eons past. Now in the Christmas special, Boba rode a mythosdaur and this is what he alluded to in Boba Fett episode 3 when he tells the rancor keeper he’s ridden much bigger. Boba also has a mythosaur on his armor so could this mean that Boba will rise to run all mandalorians like his father once did and Jaster Mereel before him?

This was such a great episode. The callbacks to the PT and OT really created such a linear feeling with the story of Star Wars as a whole. I loved seeing Mandalore and seeing Din's struggle with the dark saber. I wonder if it has different properties entirely from a regular lightsaber. I hope Luke will teach him how to properly duel in episode 6!
While there was no Boba in this, I hope they start to make Boba more like Din in the coming episodes and maybe seasons.
What did you think of the ep?!

I thought it was brilliant, it's good that he isn't proficient immediately with the darksaber as well, kinda maintains the mystique and image of the lightsaber being a weapon for force users specifically, especially liked that he filleted his own leg as well, that was a cool detail.

His struggles with the Dark Saber feeling heavy was reminiscent of Kanan teaching Sabine how to wield it. As time went on Sabine noted how "The blade feels lighter" and then Kanan answered with "you're connecting with it".
Definitely has different properties than a regular Lightsaber. Though the Jedi do have to connect to their individual Kyber crystals... this is different, each user must connect themselves fully to the whole blade.

Imagine if they gave us a flash back of jango telling young boba something meaningful right before he jets into the arena and dies. Like " after this we are gonna move on from this life of being just guns for hire". It would give that whole scene in attack of the clones so much more weight and just overall tragedy. Boba ended up just a clone of jango not only literally but a clone copy in the way that he lived his life (the deadliest killer/ bounty hunter in the galaxy) he even almost died like his father. Working for a person as hired muscle during an execution of a Skywalker gone bad on a desert planet jumping towards violence like a hot head. Even with the tuskens he was still jango solving every problem with violence. He sees bikers he kills them and steals their bikes. He sees the pike train he kills them and steals their stuff and extorts them for money. This behavior ends up getting the closest thing He's had to family killed like it got his father killed. He's learning how his old way of doing things is destroying his life so he's changing. He's becoming his own person. More than just jango Fett 2. Just some thoughts I think would be cool if they explore. One love theory! Keep killing it

They flow through the crystal as well, and become a part of the blade."

Thank you for the insight because if that’s the case, it would make a lot of sense why Mando isn’t using it at 100% because mentally, he’s not at 100%. We can eee very clearly he misses Grogu And there’s things reminding him, so we can tell his kid has really been on his mind. He feels like a piece of himself is missing, so maybe when him and Grogu reunite , the saber will be a lot more weightless, because the weight on his shoulders is taken off.

If we do get Luke in the next episode, I don’t think he will have a problem with Grogu and Din having an attachment. Luke has achieved what Jedi like Qui-Gon embodied. He has achieved balance both in the Force and in himself. He understands that attachments and love can give strength and hope to oneself in the darkest of moments. It was his love for his father that stopped him from finishing Vader off as the Emperor wished in ROTJ.
The line, “I am a Jedi, like my father before me,” is so powerful. He’s not only saying that he loves his father and believes in the good in him; he’s saying that no Jedi or Sith, Emperor or Yoda can take away the love he has for his father. Nothing can make him sever that attachment, and like Anakin before his fall, he will never leave a loved one or friend behind. A real Jedi always stays true to oneself.
Luke’s new Jedi Order will build on this foundation. Luke, Din, and Grogu have so much in common with similar attachments. I hope we see that Grogu is being trained in Luke’s Jedi way. It would continue what was established with his character at the end of ROTJ.
If it does happen in the next episode, I’m so glad that Dave Filoni is directing it. He understands out of everyone how both Luke’s and Qui-Gon’s characters have a direct connection to each other.

This is Boba's show and the show should resume back to his POV. Typically with one off episodes like this, they are mid season and set up the next season's story. I think we caught up with Din, and know where he is headed and will see that in Mando Season 3.

I think seeing Luke in the next episode would dilute what The Mandalorian can even base a S3 on, too much. Leave it where it is now, like SWT...I wanna see what Mando is going to do next, but I also will be fine with waiting for a perfect season. There is definitely a lot more they can explore with Grogu, my thoughts maybe even bring Sith into the mix...somehow they get a hold of Grogu being a thing........idk, but there's more they can do. It would hurt both shows more to keep Mando going in Boba Fett, beyond a side character.
*End S3 with some sith, base S4 on that.....just a glimpse of a red lightsaber or something. And idk how'd that work, but just thinking...

That’s a brutal and action-heavy profession in Star Wars. It was good to see that play out as opposed to a comical vespa chase or a fight where people just kind of toss each other or poke each other with sticks. It’s not that the show has totally lacked intense moments. It’s just that it was fulfilling to see a bounty hunt play out for all of its danger and brutality.

This is hands down my favorite episode of the season so far. The lore, story, set up, throwbacks, 50 minutes in length...it was pretty much exactly the kind of episode I wish we could get every week. It just feels a bit disheartening to me that Boba wasn't even in the best episode of his own show, and that I now honestly feel more interested in Din and what he's doing than in Boba. I just want to see Boba as we all know him, and I feel like we haven't really gotten that so far. We get more of it in Din that we do with Boba himself. I hope the last episodes really do a better job with him, and that it will continue into season 2. Also while Morrison's acting is wonderful I really hope that they put Boba's helmet on more. I think him barely ever wearing it is really a mood killer when it's essentially the reason Boba Fett became a character people were interested in in the first place.

Not sure how this season is going to end. I could see Boba Fett getting the darksaber, honestly, at least for a scene. When Din was darksaber training with the Armorer I felt there was a parallel between that & the scene where Boba is gaffi stick training with the Tusken Warrior. I feel the Tusken Warrior gave Boba the skills that can translate to darksaber skills. Then again Mando is paying a visit to Grogu and by extension Skywalker who could hypothetically give Din a lesson if he is okay with teaching a non-Jedi those skills. However on the subject of Luke, I’d wonder how he would feel about Din’s association with Boba. Then again it’s possible we don’t see Din travel and we see him post-trip in the next episode, and they save Grogu and Luke for Season 3 of Mando. Also considering Din will work for free for Boba that means the Fett family can spend those credits on another bounty hunter/hired muscle.

Sabine had the same trouble when she was being taught to use the dark saber by Kanan . She even remarked about how heavy it felt. Kanan however had a much different explanation of why it was so heavy than what the armorer told Din. When he goes to see Grogu, Luke will get him proficient in using it, or wouldn’t it be great if Grogu, wearing his new Beskar chain mail, takes it and breaks bad on everyone messing with Din LOL.

      ****SPOILER ALERT****
This is the perfect summation of the episode and what I feel. This whole season has been weak to me and this episode proves it even more. Boba was great in The Mandalorian, but this ain't the same version of him. The way Mando was kicking a$$ and taking names in chapter 5 is what Boba should have been doing from jump. Like going to the mayor all diplomatic and letting the Hutts test your gangster TWICE...what the heck is that??? We shouldn't have to wait 5 episodes for something this good. We know the team behind it all are so knowledgeable of Star Wars and have done great things, so TBOBF has been a big letdown for me so far. I'm sure the next 2 eps will be amazing but they can't really afford to go this slow on these Star Wars shows. If anyone rated any of the previous episodes high, the whole scale has to be thrown out the window now.

Fun Easter egg: at the "airport" where Mando has to unload all his weapons before getting on board, one of his weapons is a really really tiny pistol. That pistol is an FP-45 "Liberator" from WW2. It was intended to be used as an insurgency (partisan) weapon, mass dropped behind enemy lines to resistance fighters. The user would use the "Liberator" to kill an enemy soldier and then steal their much better weapon.

Also, I feel like Luke is gonna be busy training Grogu and assembling force-sensitive younglings, while Ahsoka is sort of just puttering about in the galaxy.
