Definitely DO NOT spray IPA or any other cleaning agent onto the rods, spray onto a cloth and then wipe. Spraying in the enclosure results in covering the belts (rubber and alcohol don't mix, will dry out and crack), covering the linear Y rods and removing all the grease from inside which you can't repack, spraying onto the rods is terrible advice unfortunately. Follow Bambu's maintenance guides to prevent damaging your machine. Also probably best not to use oil on the lead screws, oil can run down the screw and into the stepper motor below (very bad), again there is a reason why Bambu specify grease and not oil 😵‍💫

    • @MarinusMakesStuff
      @MarinusMakesStuff Год назад +28

Yeah, there's a lot of bad advice in this video. Clearly not made by someone who knows how it's supposed to be done. Also... using compressed air to clean a machine? Really not done. This will only blow dirt into the small crevices, making the risk of jams bigger.

    • @bilbobagend8155

To be fair, the official rod cleaning video published by Bambu Lab's youtube channel had them spraying alcohol on the rods.
Not that I'd ever think or want to pour isopropyl into a spray bottle.

A few suggestions, do the cleaning of fans and extruder before other maintenance. This will avoid getting crap on your newely cleaned and lubricated z rods, camera, fiber rods, etc. just makes sense, rough messy stuff always first. Appreciate your video, just reorient the sequence of steps.

Do NOT use isopropyl alcohol on the camera or LIDAR! IPA removes coatings off lenses …. Like the anti glare coating on most cameras - including the Bambu cameras. This is also why you don’t use IPA on eyeglasses. (Source : I’m an optician)

I guess you could, but if you spray the IPA, and hit the electronics, you may have issues. Since you are working on the belt tension as well, the printer won't move good if you loosen the tensioners first. That's why they say to move them by hand.

How about the steel rods that are perpendicular to the carbon rod ? Do they need lubrication ?

Really nice and helpful video. I bought a 99.99% IPA and am wondering if its safe to clean the lidar and the camera lens with it?

Yes. Be more careful about getting some on the belts when cleaning carbon rods. Ipa deteriorates them

I wouldn’t clean the lens with IPA. Ethilic alcohol 70% like that for medical use is perfect. Does not damage anyting and cleans perfectly.

After spraying the bars with IPA, I'm left with a sticky mess. Should i have used a 4% session IPA or a 6.5% double hopped IPA ?

For someone with zero experience with 3D printing, literally none, and about to place an order for the X1 Carbon, what are must have accessories that I should order with it so I can print day one? Planning to go with the carbon combo.

I got mine 2 weeks ago with zero experience as well and have close to 100 print hours already lol. Only thing I can say, order extra filament, a hot plate if you plan on doing ABS or PC. Other than that the only issue I had was a decided to orient one of my prints on my own as opposed to the auto orient on the slicer and it had some issues. Every other print in PC has come out spectacular

great video but as for the lead screws I will be using white lithium grease and a microfiber towel. The white lithium grease I have is made by Lucas, which is a well known brand in the automotive lube world. I also use it on the bed screws of my CO2 laser and it is some awesome stuff. And it stays on for a long time.

It's best practice to hold fans still with one hand and use compressed air with the other. This will reduce wear on the bearings and prevent a dynamo effect from putting electricity back through the system.

1.Использовать нужно ткань, а не бумагу, от бумаги пыль.
    2. Использовать перчатки латекс или другие медицинские одноразовые, чтобы жир не оставлять, на деталях и филаменте.

A very small amount yes. You don't want to.much or it will attract the dirt, etc.

Shop towels over paper towels to avoid residue. Also spray the towel not the Rods. Spraying hits the belts with ipa which isn't good for them.
