Soundwave's missile is Ravage in his casset.. flying thing mode, that's pretty clever. And bumblebee's legs are straight up the original movie 1 deluxe legs lol
I actually have what I believe to be a black and grey DOTM repaint of this mold of bumblebee, and he came with a little sam that could ride in him, but the windshield was so bendy during the transformation that it ended up snapped in half. One of these days bee is gonna get pulled over for driving around with half a windshield
I had these guys when they came out. Mine didn't start out floppy , but I remember they got to be way faster than most of my other figures at the time, even considering my borderline abusive, ham-fisted play. This Bee was a bit meh for me, but the gimmick is kinda cool, and you have unrestricted access to it in both modes, so it evens out. Since renting G1 reruns throughout my early childhood, I've always loved Soundwave, and since I had a front row seat to the slow, agonizing death of tape-based media growing up, I've always been fascinated with what they came up with for his alt-mode to keep him relevant. Considering his origins as a media-based intelligence agent, a satellite was always the most logical update to me. That, and the fact that he's rocking a G1-adjacent paintjob was what ultimately won me over. This set influenced me to pick up a couple more figures from this subline as well. Hasbro ran a mail-away promo here for an exclusive Ravage redeco. You just needed the order form, three of the lil stickers packed in with the figures, and $5. This set had the order form and one of the lil stickers, and everyone else in our limited stock just had one of the lil stickers. I remember I just barely got in at the tail-end the promo (I had I wanna say a week left, I think?). Our Wal-Mart had had the NEST figures just long enough to start putting them on clearance. It worked out though, cuz I was barely able to get in on the promo on my limited budget, and I effectively got Recon Ravage free-of-charge.

THIS was my bumblebee figure, I was huge into bumblebee and was stoked when I got this as one of my first transformers toys... and he stinks lmao. Absolutely hate the transformation and the chest looks terrible. The best part is that I have absolutely zero memory of the soundwave figure, you could tell me I mistook it for garbage and threw it out with the box. I've been working on recollection my original figures and I got all of them, except for soundwave. He isn't expensive or rare I just don't care.
At least this ain't the bizarre repaint with the very KO lookin' face (the eyes are white with black pupils!!)...that thing was an even bigger abomimanation than the war crime that is Cannon Bumblebee.
The bumblebee has so much in common with the 07 figure. The legs are the same and I noticed a few other components that were similar to the 07. And then the car mode looks basically identical
I prefere the old packaging cuz at least u know it's sealed and accessories can't be stolen which seems to be an unfortunate and continuous thing. also, I like that version of soundwave
I recently was cataloguing my movie toys and I thought this Soundwave was great, didn't notice any issue with the hips and the colours are great and the backpack and shoulders give you a lot of options for posing.
Damn that's nostalgic. I had that exact two pack and loved The Nest Patch! Always hated that, that BB's chest didn't pop out and orientate like the movie until I got Nitro BB during DOTM's run. Then the top of the hood broke and I got rid of it for a Barricade. The art of the deal. That soundwave mode does not have a good Robot mode but the Alt mode was very open to interpretation. Fun enough for an imaginative kid but as an adult I quickly traded him in as well.
It could just be nostalgia, but I remember there being a two pack of battle blade bumblebee and soundwave and I think I remember that being a better mold because at the time Battle Blade Bumblebee was my favorite toy that my little brother then tried to transform and broke while I was at church camp.
I actually bought this set as well, Bumblebee for an alt mode display of cars and trucks that I *think* are to scale with one another, and Soundwave actually goes on my studio series shelf just bc I like a slightly bigger Soundwave
Soundwaves Angel mode with his flaming chest is hilarious. These are two figures I avoided like the plague during original retail. Used to have the original Concept Bee, but only kept the Battle Blades release though it's not the greatest either. DOTM Bee though is where I dropped off and getting him on clearance still one of the better attempts at movie Bee. Backpack is hinged mess but the look in both modes is spot on, and the plastic still feels great.
I can vouch that the OG version of the cannon bumblebee mold is way nicer looking, his head is larger and very screen accurate and the yellow is a deeper shade
Oh God I saw the shoulder canons and I knew exactly what Bumblebee toy that was. I have one version of that figure from a CVS two pack with a legion Grinder. The Grinder was more fun then the Bumblebee. I also have the mainline ROTF Soundwave figure. I got him in box and now he sits on my Soundwave shrine.
Honestly, despite its flaws I really like the Rotf Soundwave mold. I have the black version of it from Japan and love that thing. He looks so cool in robot mode. I love posing him around. Despite his size he definitely has a presence
Must have been lucky as my RotF Soundeave never had any issues, though Im surprised theyve never touched on it again by using it as a basis for an Alpha Trion figure
I have a lot of love for Soundwave because he was one of my only ROTF toys. I really like the design but yeah the engineering was pretty bad, plus I think I had a faulty one where the knee had a hairline fracture that made it super easy to pop off one of his shins
Empty space is necessary to keep the figures safe in case of any damages. Let's not ask Hasbro or any other toy companies to take away that space. Please.
I remember wanted to get this set just for the Soundwave figure I wasn’t able to do it back in 2019, then I got the regular release of Soundwave not long later, but then a year later I replaced that figure with the Studio Series version.
